GACC Boys 0-2 in last two games; Girls 2-0 in same stretch

The GACC Boys lost 60-45 at Wayne Friday night, and 68-50 at Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday.

The Blue Devils led the Bluejays 16-10 after one. GACC won the second quarter 8-7 to make it a 23-18 game at halftime.

Wayne doubled up the Bluejays 20-10 in the third quarter to go up 43-28 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 17 points in the fourth quarter.

BC/NG led 15-7 after one. The Cardinals won the second quarter 14-10 to lead 29-17 at halftime.

The Bluejays outscored BC/NG 16-14 in the third quarter to make it a 43-33 game at the end of three.

The Cardinals outlasted GACC 25-17 in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Slaughter paced the Bluejays with 17 points while Mitch Haas had 13.

Head Coach Brad Slaughter says just one three pointer wasn't good enough to win.

"We're playing up, C-1 schools right now. And we're D-1. And sometimes these are the things we got to weather the storm. And they're a good team, but I feel that we can compete with these guys as a whole. If just a few shots would fall for us, and they will."

GACC (6-7) takes on O'Neill (12-1) Friday night.

The Eagles won 74-34 at home over Wagner, SD on Tuesday.

O'Neill appears to be the real deal once again this year, and the Bluejays are going to need to play really well to come away with the win.

This is a tough and challenging weekend for GACC as the Bluejays host Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday as well.

GACC is going to have to crank up the intensity and heat this weekend if they want to win one or both games.

The Bluejays were playing so well and now are kind of back to struggling some.

I know GACC played two C-1 teams though.

With that said, the Bluejays have to get back to playing the type of offense and defense they did during their winning streak.

I would say GACC is playing better basketball than they were prior to their winning streak when they had trouble scoring, and I truly think the Bluejays are capable of getting back on track and going on another run, but this weekend is going to be really tough.

We'll find out a lot about GACC's toughness this weekend, in my opinion.

I'm more curious to see how the Bluejays play on Saturday than Friday. Reason being it will be short rest after a long road trip, and GACC will have to bring it that much more compared to Friday.

The Bluejays have had time to rest and prepare for O'Neill so I look for GACC to compete well against the Eagles.

It will just be interesting to see how the Bluejays fare on Saturday.

The GACC Girls won 70-37 at Winnebago last Thursday night, and 68-43 at Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday.

The Bluejays and Indians were tied at 15 after one. GACC outscored Winnebago 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 29-19 lead into the locker room.

The Bluejays outlasted the Indians 28-8 in the third quarter to go up 57-27 after three.

GACC won the fourth quarter 13-10.

GACC went up 23-13 on the Cardinals after one. The Bluejays won the second quarter 12-7 to take a 35-20 lead into the locker room.

GACC outlasted BC/NG 16-14 in the third quarter to go up 51-34 at the end of three.

The Bluejays outscored the Cardinals 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

Maddie Knobbe posted a game-high 22 points for GACC while Lexis Haase and Lauren Wobken added 19 and 8, respectively.

 Head Coach Jerry Stracke.

"Seems like we're getting better every game. I couldn't ask for a better group. they work hard. It seems like we're going in the right direction. I thought we had a great game. I thought we played hard and made things happen."

GACC (11-1) makes the long trek to O'Neill (8-5) Friday night.

The Eagles have won three in a row, including a 64-38 home win over Wagner, SD Tuesday night.

O'Neill has Neligh-Oakdale Thursday night, and that should be the 4th win in a row for the Eagles.

With that said, I think it's an advantage for the Bluejays that O'Neill has already played two games this week.

GACC should be fresh and ready to go with the time off due to the weather, and the extra time to prepare for the Eagles.

You wonder about what type of game shape the Bluejays will be in though after being cooped up inside for a few days, but GACC will have had a couple of days to practice so they should be fine.

The Bluejays have another difficult game at home against Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday so it will be interesting to see how GACC handles that matchup.

This is what it's going to be like in the postseason and in the Mid State Conference Tournament though, and the Bluejays are no stranger to playing games in consecutive days so I imagine GACC will handle things just fine.

It's just the long road trip on Friday that kind of makes this thing unique with the Trojans on Saturday.

I just don't know if GACC has had a game early the next day following a long road trip in recent years.

These games will definitely prepare the Bluejays for what lies ahead though, in my opinion.

GACC is going to have to win three games in three days to win a state title, so winning back-to-back games with a long road trip thrown in there should help the Bluejays get ready for what they are going to have to deal with at state should they make it, and in the postseason in general.
