Tekamah-Herman Boys lose to BRLD; Girls fall to Fort Calhoun and BRLD

The Tekamah-Herman Boys lost 65-30 at home to BRLD Friday night.

The Wolverines doubled up the Tigers 16-8 in the first quarter. BRLD outscored Tekamah-Herman 16-6 in the second quarter to take a 32-14 lead into the locker room.

The Wolverines won the third quarter 12-8 to lead 44-22 at the end of three.

BRLD outlasted the Tigers 21-8 in the fourth quarter.

It was simply another difficult game for Tekamah-Herman.

The Tigers (0-8) take on Madison (4-7) on the road Friday night.

The Dragons have dropped four in a row, losing 58-39 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder last time out.

Despite Madison's losing streak, I still think Tekamah-Herman is going to have a tough time beating the Dragons.

Madison has lost to some good teams during their losing streak, and has lost to nothing but quality teams this season.

I think the game will be close though as the Dragons lost 70-57 at Clarkson/Leigh, and I feel the Tigers are about equal to or a little bit better than the Patriots.

I think this is one of Tekamah-Herman's best chances at a win this season.

Not much has gone the Tigers' way this season, but perhaps Tekamah-Herman can play well and take some positives away from Friday night's game.

The Tigers have West Point-Beemer at home on Saturday, another game that I feel can be a building block for Tekamah-Herman, so these boys have to work hard and keep their heads up and continue to get better.

I really think at least a few wins are going to come the Tigers' way yet this season. As long as Tekamah-Herman maintains a positive attitude and continues to get better, good things should come their way eventually.

I think this weekend is a chance for the Tigers to grow and improve, and perhaps pick up a win or two.

A win or two would be great for this team, but I think competing and keeping things close would be a good, positive step in the right direction if winning doesn't happen.

As many know, Tekamah-Herman is low on numbers, so it's imperative the Tigers stay out of foul trouble and sub in guys the best they can.

This is an important weekend for Tekamah-Herman, in my opinion, so the Tigers need to do their best to take steps in the right direction and play at a high level.

Scoring more points and giving up fewer points would be a start.

The Tekamah-Herman Girls lost 53-39 at Fort Calhoun last Thursday night, and 61-35 at home to BRLD Friday night.

The Tigers kept things close early against the Pioneers as the Pioneers led just 11-10 after one. Fort Calhoun won the second quarter 14-11 to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room.

The Pioneers outscored Tekamah-Herman 14-11 in the third quarter to go up 39-32 at the end of three.

Fort Calhoun doubled up the Tigers 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

Jess Fleischman led all scorers with 26 points.

Head Coach Scott Guzinski.

"We never gave up. And I think my favorite thing about it was that we put together a game plan, and we stuck to the game plan. We knew number 11 was a shooter. And she only made two 3's in the game. But we held to two points, three points in the first half. We knew 22 was going to drive. We knew 20 was going to go over her right shoulder every time. And our kids did what I asked them to do, but again we just didn't score enough there in the second half to finish the job."

Guzinski on Jessica's performance.

"Yeah she did a good job. I think she had 8 rebounds too. She's been our leading scorer for the last couple of years. And the game plan is to get her the ball and to get Marin (Jetensky) the ball, those are our two scorers. And then we've got to get something out of the rest of our team. But she did a good job considering the Marshall girl inside, she's good. I mean and she's tall and she's very athletic. So to get around her, to get over her, was difficult. And Jessica did a good job. I'm proud of the way that she played."

Guzinski's team made it a game trailing by just one point at the end of one quarter.

"We've had trouble scoring all year, and we had one little lull there at the end of the third quarter, beginning of the fourth quarter, where we didn't score, and they kept scoring. All year when we've gotten behind we had a hard time catching up. So I think part of that had to do with some of the foul trouble we were in."

The Tigers led the Wolverines 9-6 at the end of one. BRLD outscored Tekamah-Herman 15-4 in the second quarter to take a 21-13 lead into the locker room.

The Wolverines won the third quarter 19-13 to go up 40-26 at the end of three.

BRLD outlasted the Tigers 21-9 in the fourth quarter.

Tekamah-Herman just really struggles to score and defend.

The Tigers (1-10) take on Madison (2-11) on the road Friday night.

The Dragons lost 43-29 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Tuesday night.

Despite Tekamah-Herman's record, I think the Tigers should be able to win this game pretty easily.

I look for Fleischman, Jetensky, Carson Cameron, and others to have solid and good games for Tekamah-Herman.

The Tigers have been working hard all year, and I feel Tekamah-Herman is a better team than what their record shows.

I think the Tigers have a chance to pick up a couple of wins this weekend as Tekamah-Herman has West Point-Beemer at home on Saturday.

The Cadets have come on a bit lately though so I don't expect that to be an easy game for the Tigers whatsoever.

Given how Tekamah-Herman's season has gone no game is easy and a sure thing I would say.

The Tigers have to come out and play well in both games, and play like their season is on the line, because Tekamah-Herman desperately needs to get things going before it's too late.

I would of never thought the Tigers would be 1-10 at this point, but Tekamah-Herman is without a key girl that was expected to contribute greatly so I'm sure the Tigers would be better with her.

With that said, Tekamah-Herman just has to figure out a way to be good and competitive with who they have.

Often times teams are dealt a tough hand or given a tough schedule, and in a lot of ways that's the case with the Tigers.

Tekamah-Herman has faced and lost to some tough teams, but at the same time has lost to a few teams they could of easily beaten, in my opinion.

The Tigers just have to overcome this adversity that has hit them and find ways to win this weekend.

Tekamah-Herman has a tough week next week so the Tigers desperately need to pick up a couple of wins this weekend to help themselves out next week.

Tekamah-Herman could really do themselves a favor by beating the Dragons and Cadets.
