Pender Boys lose to Wisner-Pilger and Wynot; Girls beat Gators, fall to Blue Devils
The Pender Boys fell 70-43 at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night before losing 57-47 at Wynot Friday night.
The Gators doubled up the Pendragons 18-9 in the first quarter. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 15-13 to lead 33-22 at halftime.
The Gators outscored Pender 20-4 in the third quarter to go up 53-26 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 17 points in the fourth quarter.
I thought Pender competed well with Wynot. The game certainly could have been a whole lot more lopsided than it was.
The Pendragons (4-11) host Howells-Dodge (8-7) on Saturday.
The Jaguars lost 56-39 at home to Wisner-Pilger last Friday night.
I think Pender has a chance to make this game close and entertaining.
The Blue Devils are a pretty good team, and I think they are at about even with Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars have been inconsistent and up and down so far this season so the Pendragons have to be feeling optimistic about their chances of winning.
The big thing for Pender is not to dig themselves an early hole. I don't think the Pendragons are built to come back from large deficits.
So if Pender can hang in there early on they should gain confidence throughout the game that allows them to remain within striking distance.
The Pendragons play a really tough schedule, and I think that allows them to be competitive against some of the smaller class teams.
I know Howells-Dodge is in C-2, but they've been D-1 in the past.
I really think Pender can hang in there against the Jaguars.
The Pendragons have Madison on the road Monday and Emerson-Hubbard at home on Tuesday so Pender has to be feeling pretty good about their chances in those games too.
This is a big stretch for the Pendragons, and Pender has to be feeling confident that they can pick up at least a couple of wins prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament.
The Pender Girls won 48-47 in overtime at Wisner-Pilger on a shot at the buzzer Thursday night before falling 46-37 at Wynot Friday night.
The Gators led 14-12 after one. The Pendragons won the second quarter 9-8 to make it a 22-21 game at halftime.
Pender outscored Wisner-Pilger 14-8 in the third quarter to lead 35-30 at the end of three.
The Gators rallied in the 4th quarter, outlasting the Pendragons 11-6 to force overtime.
Pender outscored Wisner-Pilger 7-6 in the extra session.
Kam Anderson led the way with 20 points while Hallie Ballinger totaled 8 points and 9 rebounds. Michaela Wegner added 7 points. Cecilee Jacobsen notched 14 rebounds.
The Pendragons have had a rough go of it their last couple of games. Things don't get any easier with Howells-Dodge on Saturday.
Pender (14-3) hosts the Jaguars (14-2) on Saturday.
Howells-Dodge beat Tekamah-Herman 64-41 at home Friday night.
This is a huge game for East Husker Conference Tournament Seeding.
I think this game could be the difference between the Pendragons being the 4 or the 5 seed.
This is an important game for Pender to bounce back in.
I don't feel the Pendragons are playing their best basketball at the moment, but teams often go through times of struggle.
With that said, Wynot is a very good team, and the Gators also played Howells-Dodge close so this should be a great game between two very good teams.
This game can go either way if you ask me. This would be a huge win for Pender.
It's important for the Pendragons to win some of these big games should they need a wildcard to get to state.
A loss to the Jaguars doesn't hurt Pender a whole lot in terms of power points, but a win over Howells-Dodge would catapult the Pendragons' points even higher.
Right now Pender is sitting 4th in power points, which is good.
This is a big bounce back day for the Pendragons. Pender could really use a win over the Jaguars, especially with the Conference Tournament coming up.
