Pender Boys 2-2 in last four games; Girls 4-0 in same span

The Pender Boys are 2-2 in their last four games, defeating Emerson-Hubbard 43-36 in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament last Friday before losing 73-30 to Wakefield in the Championship of that tournament last Saturday. The Pendragons won 61-44 at home over Homer Tuesday night before falling 71-19 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night.

The Pendragons led the Pirates 10-9 at the end of one. Pender won the second quarter 9-7 to lead 19-16 at halftime.

The Pendragons outscored Emerson-Hubbard 17-8 in the third quarter to go up 36-24 at the end of three.

The Pirates outlasted Pender 12-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans led the Pendragons 9-7 after one. Wakefield outscored Pender 28-10 in the second quarter to take a 37-17 lead into the locker room.

The Trojans outlasted the Pendragons 22-9 in the third quarter to go up 59-26 at the end of three.

Wakefield won the fourth quarter 14-4.

Pender led the Knights 18-7 at the end of one. Homer won the second quarter 17-13 to make it a 31-24 game at halftime.

The Pendragons outscored the Knights 19-12 in the third quarter to go up 50-36 at the end of three.

Pender outlasted Homer 11-8 in the fourth quarter.

North Bend Central led the Pendragons 28-4 after one. The Tigers outscored Pender 25-4 in the second quarter to take a 53-8 lead into the locker room.

North Bend Central outlasted the Pendragons 13-3 in the third quarter to go up 66-11 at the end of three.

Pender won the fourth quarter 8-5.

The Pendragons have been kind of up and down lately. Pender has looked good at times, but not so good at others.

The Pendragons (4-9) take on Wisner-Pilger (5-7) on the road Thursday night.

The Gators beat Howells-Dodge 56-39 on the road Friday night.

Wisner-Pilger has kind of come on lately, and I think Pender is going to have their hands full in this one.

The Pendragons haven't fared well against teams that are athletic and skilled, and I feel the Gators are one of those teams.

Pender just has to find a way to be more competitive however they can.

The Pendragons have to put the North Bend Central loss behind them and in the rearview mirror.

One thing Pender has done well this year is bounce back from losses. The Pendragons have had a quick memory so far this year, which is a good thing.

I fully expect Pender to come out and be ready to play Thursday night.

How much success that leads to for the Pendragons remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, these kids are mentally and physically tough.

Pender needs a bunch of players to step up and score, and the Pendragons need to play better defense than they did against the Tigers.

Pender may not have much time to prepare for this game as the Pendragons may only have one day of practice and preparation prior to the storm, but Wisner-Pilger is in the same boat so neither team figures to have an advantage from that standpoint.

Pender just can't get off to the same kind of start they did against North Bend Central. I understand the Tigers are really good and in C-1, but the Pendragons simply have to be better than that.

I'm not suggesting Pender has to beat the Gators because that's going to be very difficult, but it's time for the Pendragons to compete better in some of these tougher games.

The Pender Girls are playing real well at the moment as the Pendragons knocked off Homer 64-30 last Thursday night in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament before downing Wakefield 72-20 in the tournament championship last Saturday. Pender topped Homer 52-27 at home Tuesday night before defeating North Bend Central 47-43 at home Thursday night.

In round one, the Pendragons led the Knights 15-8 after one. Pender doubled up Homer 20-10 in the second quarter to take a 35-18 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons doubled up the Knights 16-8 in the third quarter to go up 51-26 at the end of three.

Pender outscored Homer 13-4 in the fourth quarter.

Kam Anderson led the way with 22 points while Cecilee Jacobsen notched 11 points and 9 rebounds. Amber English added 8 points while Hallie Ballinger chipped in 7 points and 9 rebounds.

The Pendragons led the Trojans 27-1 at the end of one. Wakefield won the second quarter 13-8 to make it a 35-14 game at halftime.

Pender outscored the Trojans 17-2 in the third quarter to lead 52-16 at the end of three.

The Pendragons outlasted Wakefield 20-4 in the fourth quarter.

Anderson notched 20 points while Ballinger posted 10 points and 8 rebounds. Jacobsen added 10 points and 7 rebounds while Faith Morris pitched in 10 points.

In round two with Homer, Pender led 13-11 after one. The Pendragons won the second quarter 6-5 to take a 19-16 lead into the locker room.

Pender tripled up the Knights 18-6 in the third quarter to go up 37-22 at the end of three.

The Pendragons tripled up Homer 15-5 in the fourth quarter.

English had 19 points to lead the way while Anderson notched 9. Ballinger chipped in 9 rebounds while Jacobsen had 8.

The Tigers led the Pendragons 12-11 after one. North Bend Central won the second quarter 12-9 to take a 24-20 lead into the locker room.

Pender doubled up the Tigers 18-9 in the third quarter to go up 38-33 at the end of three.

North Bend Central won the fourth quarter 10-9.

Anderson posted 22 points while Ballinger and English registered 9 and 8, respectively. Jacobsen compiled 10 rebounds.

The Pendragons are playing great basketball right now. I would say Pender has hit their stride.

The Pendragons (13-2) battle Wisner-Pilger (6-8) on the road Thursday night.

The Gators beat Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 51-35 at home on Saturday.

Wisner-Pilger isn't a bad team, and I fully expect them to come out raring and ready to go against Pender.

You can bet the Pendragons will get the Gators' best shot.

With that said, Pender appears to be focused and mean business now. Play around time is done for the Pendragons as they have shown by their play in their last four games.

Pender has turned the corner and has turned things on, and it has been very impressive.

With that said, the Pendragons could be a little off if they don't practice prior to Wednesday.

I don't expect Pender to be able to practice Monday or Tuesday though. I would be very surprised if the Pendragons even had school.

Pender should enjoy these potential snow days, but be ready to go when it's time to practice and play again.

The Pendragons have to continue to do what they've done in their last four games. Pender has Wynot on Friday and Howells-Dodge on Saturday so the road is certainly not easy for the Pendragons this week.

Pender is a great team, but we will find out just how great by how they do in Friday and Saturday's games.

The Pendragons are playing two of the better teams in Northeast Nebraska, and will be challenged and pushed to the max there's no doubt about it.

I think Pender can at least win two out of three this week though. And given the type of teams all three opponents are, I think that would be pretty good.

It would be an incredible feat and accomplishment for the Pendragons to beat all three teams, but I don't know how much Pender will have for the Howells-Dodge game. Three games in three days is tough, especially if the Pendragons don't get to practice before Wednesday.
