Wisner-Pilger Boys 1-1 in last two games; Girls 1-2 in last three
The Wisner-Pilger Boys beat West Point-Beemer 51-40 at home Friday night, and fell 62-42 at home to Wayne Monday night.
Wisner-Pilger held a 15-10 lead on the Cadets after one. The Gators won the second quarter 14-10 to take a 29-20 lead into the locker room.
The Cadets won the third quarter 10-7 to make it a 36-30 game at the end of the third.
Wisner-Pilger outlasted West Point-Beemer 15-10 in the fourth quarter.
Jayden Raabe led the Gators with 16 points while Gunner Labenz and Hunter Waterman chipped in 13 and 10, respectively.
Head Coach Duane Mendlik.
"We knew they were big and they were going to be strong inside. And I thought our bigs played pretty well. The Raabe boy he had a pretty good game rebounding well, did a nice job for us. And our guards scored a little bit for us too so that helped us out a lot."
The Blue Devils doubled up the Gators 18-9 in the first quarter. Wayne won the second quarter 16-15 to take a 34-24 lead into the locker room,
The Blue Devils outscored Wisner-Pilger 15-8 in the third quarter to go up 49-32 at the end of three.
Wayne outlasted the Gators 13-10 in the fourth quarter.
I thought Wisner-Pilger would give the Blue Devils a better game than they did, but it wasn't meant to be.
The Gators (4-7) take on Howells-Dodge (7-6) on the road Friday night.
The Jaguars lost 55-49 at home to BRLD Monday night.
This is a game of two teams who have really played well at times, but have been inconsistent as well.
It's an intriguing game that could really go either way, in my opinion.
I don't even give Howells-Dodge the edge being at home that's as much of a toss up as I think this game is.
It depends on which team for Wisner-Pilger shows up and which team for the Jaguars shows up.
If both teams bring their "A" game it should be a great and exciting game, but if one team tanks it and the other brings it then we'll have a blowout.
Hopefully both teams don't tank it because then the game won't be very good for fans and listeners to watch and listen to.
I really do think this will be a really good game when it's all said and done though.
I feel either team is capable of winning, and whoever gets the job done will have a lot of confidence and momentum heading into their next game.
It should be a great game between what I believe are two solid ball clubs.
I think both teams are better than their records it's just both are looking to become more consistent.
Whoever wins could be on the road to better consistency, in my opinion.
The Gators have another tough game against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday so Wisner-Pilger could really use a win Friday night to give themselves a boost heading into that contest.
I wouldn't necessarily call this a must win game for the Gators, but it's pretty close to that with Twin River and an improved Pender team coming up next week.
No game or team should be taken for granted so Wisner-Pilger has to bring it both nights to have a shot to win both games this weekend, in my opinion.
Friday night's game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull after the girls game, which is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls beat Madison 63-23 on the road Thursday night before falling 40-28 at home to West Point-Beemer Friday night, and 60-43 at home to Wayne Monday night.
The Gators led the Dragons 16-10 after one. Wisner-Pilger outscored Madison 22-2 in the second quarter to take a 38-12 lead into the locker room.
The Gators outlasted the Dragons 14-8 in the third quarter to go up 52-20 after three.
Wisner-Pilger won the fourth quarter 11-3.
West Point-Beemer blanked Wisner-Pilger 5-0 in the first quarter. The Cadets outscored the Gators 14-2 in the second quarter to take a 19-2 lead into the locker room. Wisner-Pilger was held without a first half field goal.
The Gators won the third quarter 13-10 to make it a 29-15 game at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger outlasted West Point-Beemer 13-11 in the fourth quarter.
Ariel Meyer led the Gators with 10 points while Ashton Meyer totaled 9.
I thought Wisner-Pilger would play better against the Cadets and Blue Devils given how well they played against Madison, but that wasn't the case.
The Gators (5-7) take on Howells-Dodge (12-1) on the road Friday night,
The Jaguars beat Lutheran High Northeast 45-28 on the road Tuesday night.
Howells-Dodge has won four in a row, and is a very good team. The Jaguars have responded well since losing to GACC in the GACC Holiday Tournament Championship Game.
If Wisner-Pilger plays like they did against the Cadets and Blue Devils I say no way they beat Howells-Dodge.
But if the Gators play the way they did against Madison and Oakland-Craig for that matter, they may have a chance to make things somewhat close and interesting.
It's going to take great games from Maci Batenhorst, Jordan Wegner, and both Meyer girls though, in my opinion.
Wisner-Pilger also has to find a way to slow down Sam Brester, Erin Prusa, and Emily Ritzdorf in particular.
All three of those girls have put up some pretty good numbers for the Jaguars lately, and their production will be vital to Howells-Dodge's success, in my opinion.
It all starts at the defensive end for the Gators, in my opinion, but Wisner-Pilger also has to be better drastically better offensively than they were against the Cadets, especially in the first half.
The Gators simply cannot expect to win games scoring 2 points in a half without connecting on any field goals.
That game is in the past though, and I feel Wisner-Pilger will step up and surprise a few folks with their play Friday night.
I honestly don't think the Gators will win, but I feel this game could be closer than some think.
Wisner-Pilger has a road game on Saturday against an improved Logan View/Scribner-Snyder team so it will be interesting to see what happens in that game as well.
I'm sure the Gators are anxious to get back out on the court given what has transpired over the last couple of games.
Friday night's game at Howells-Dodge will be aired on 107.9 the Bull beginning at 6:00 p.m.
