Wisner-Pilger Boys 1-2 in last three games
The Wisner-Pilger Boys won 70-43 at home over Pender last Thursday night, lost 61-41 at Twin River on Saturday, and fell 63-40 at North Bend Central Thursday night.
The Gators doubled up the Pendragons 18-9 in the first quarter. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 15-13 to lead 33-22 at halftime.
The Gators outscored Pender 20-4 in the third quarter to go up 53-26 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Wisner-Pilger led the Titans 11-10 after one. Twin River outscored the Gators 22-13 in the second quarter to take a 32-24 lead into the locker room.
The Titans outlasted Wisner-Pilger 15-7 in the third quarter to go up 47-31 at the end of three.
Twin River won the fourth quarter 14-10.
The Tigers led 16-11 after one. North Bend Central outscored the Gators 26-6 in the second quarter to take a 42-17 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers outlasted Wisner-Pilger 13-4 in the third quarter to go up 55-21 at the end of three.
The Gators outscored North Bend Central 19-8 in the fourth quarter.
I thought Wisner-Pilger played well against the Pendragons, but struggled against the Titans and Tigers.
The Gators (6-10) square off with West Point-Beemer (7-10) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Howells-Dodge on Saturday.
The Cadets are coming off a 59-49 loss at Wayne Thursday night.
The two teams met on January 6th in Wisner with the Gators winning 51-40.
Wisner-Pilger ought to figure they have a fairly decent chance to beat West Point-Beemer again, but it's never easy to beat a team twice in a season, and given the way the Gators have played their last couple of games, it may not happen.
This should be your typical 8/9 matchup with things being close and coming down to the wire though.
I wouldn't be surprised if this game was decided by 5 points or less.
The winner has an uphill battle with North Bend Central Tuesday night, in my opinion, but I'm sure Wisner-Pilger would like to be the team to have a chance to upset the Tigers.
I think the Gators can and probably feel they can play North Bend Central tougher than they did Thursday night.
It's never easy to beat a team twice as I said, and that applies to the Tigers trying to beat Wisner-Pilger twice should the two teams play again.
The Gators need to come out tenacious and tough on Saturday. Wisner-Pilger has to take the fight to the Cadets, and play suffocating defense this time around as well.
If the Gators can do enough offensively and score over 50 points they could be golden.
West Point-Beemer really struggles to score so whatever Wisner-Pilger can do to make sure the Cadets keep struggling to score will help them in their attempt to knock off West Point-Beemer again.
Saturday's game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull after the Howells-Dodge/Madison game, which is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
