Tekamah-Herman Boys winless in last three games; Girls 2-2 in last four
The Tekamah-Herman Boys remain winless on the season, falling 64-28 at Madison last Friday night, 56-18 at home to West Point-Beemer on Saturday, and 61-18 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Thursday night.
The Dragons jumped out to a 23-8 lead on the Tigers at the end of one. Madison won the second quarter 11-6 to go up 34-14 at halftime.
The Dragons outscored Tekamah-Herman 19-3 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 53-17 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.
The Cadets led 23-1 at the end of one. West Point-Beemer outscored the Tigers 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 43-8 lead into the locker room.
The Cadets won the third quarter 8-5 to go up 51-13 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 5 points in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders led just 18-12 at the end of one. LV/SS went on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter though and outscored the Tigers 22-3 in the frame to take a 40-15 lead into the locker room.
The Raiders outscored the Tigers 19-2 in the third quarter to go up 59-17 at the end of three.
LV/SS doubled up Tekamah-Herman 2-1 in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers were led by Luke Wakehouse, who notched 8 points. Clay Beaumount added 7.
Head Coach Zach Rosenboom only has 9 kids out for the team this year.
"We always talk about attitude, effort, loyalty. Those are our three guiding principles. And we talk about playing the Tiger basketball way. And playing to the whistle all the way through, so on and so forth. And I think our guys do a really good job of doing that."
Tekamah-Herman (0-11) host Clarkson/Leigh (0-15) Thursday night.
The Patriots lost 38-21 at Twin River this past Thursday night and 58-40 at Lutheran High Northeast Friday night.
This is a game of something's got to give.
This is by far the Tigers' best chance of picking up a win.
Tekamah-Herman has to treat this game like it's the state championship because I feel that's what this game is going to be like for these two teams.
The winner of this game is going to feel elated and great that they won a game I'm sure, but the loser may end up feeling pretty down as the loser of this game may not win a game this year.
The Tigers have to work hard and do what they can with the players they have out. Everyone has to work together and play hard, and do their best to win.
At the end of the day though it's just a game and there's much more to life than sports.
I'm sure Tekamah-Herman really wants to win this game though. The last thing you want to do is put all that hard work in and not win a game.
With that said, Clarkson/Leigh is in the same boat and will no likely feel like they have just as good a chance to win as the Tigers do.
Both teams will no doubt be taking out a season of frustration on one another, and will get after things. You can bet on that.
I give Tekamah-Herman the slight edge since they're the bigger school and at home, but the Patriots have a good shot to win this game too I think.
It all comes down to who wants it more and who is willing to go the extra mile to win, in my opinion.
Whoever is quicker to loose balls and things of that sort will have the best chance to win, in my opinion.
Thursday night's game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull after the Girls Game, which is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls won 41-34 at Madison last Friday night, fell 42-36 at home to West Point-Beemer on Saturday, downed Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 56-29 on the road Thursday night, and lost 64-41 at Howells-Dodge Friday night.
The Tigers led the Dragons 11-8 after one. Madison won the second quarter 7-6 to make it a 17-15 game at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman outscored the Dragons 16-11 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 33-26 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Marin Jetensky notched 20 points and 16 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jessica Fleischman added 18 points to go over 1,000 for her career.
The Cadets led 14-6 at the end of one. The Tigers won the second quarter 13-8 to make it a 22-19 game at halftime.
West Point-Beemer outscored Tekamah-Herman 12-9 in the third quarter to lead 34-28 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Tekamah-Herman led the Raiders 12-9 after one. The Tigers outscored LV/SS 13-5 in the third quarter to lead 25-14 at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman won the third quarter 16-11 to go up 41-25 at the end of three.
The Tigers outlasted the Raiders 15-4 in the fourth quarter.
Fleischman paced Tekamah-Herman with 19 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jetensky added 18 points.
Head Coach Scott Guzinski.
"I felt good about our defense, especially in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. I thought we played really good defense. We only let them score 5 points in the 2nd quarter I think. And we had good matchups. I mean we had size and they had a hard time getting close to the basket. So I know that made it hard for them."
The Jaguars led the Tigers 17-12 after one. Howells-Dodge outscored Tekamah-Herman 17-10 in the second quarter to take a 34-22 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars outlasted the Tigers 16-3 in the third quarter to go up 50-25 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman won the fourth quarter 15-13.
Jetensky had a team-high 16 points for the Tigers. Fleischman added 11 while Maddy Horn notched 9.
The same players continue to step up and score for Tekamah-Herman, and Horn getting 9 against Howells-Dodge was big.
The Tigers (3-12) take on Omaha Mercy (2-10) on the road Tuesday night.
The Monarchs lost 24-17 to Omaha Gross in the River Cities Conference Tournament on Friday.
Omaha Mercy may be 2-10, but they are a Class B team, and I don't expect this to be an easy game for Tekamah-Herman whatsoever.
With that said, I feel this game and Thursday's game with Clarkson/Leigh are very winnable for the Tigers.
It's simply a matter of Tekamah-Herman stepping up and playing to their potential.
I feel the Tigers have played well at times this year, but not consistent enough to win more games than they have.
Tekamah-Herman has been a strong defensive team for the most part, but their offense has hurt them quite a bit this season.
A couple of wins next week would be a big confidence and momentum booster for the Tigers heading into the East Husker Conference Tournament though.
And Tekamah-Herman can use all the confidence and momentum they can get heading into that tournament given how stacked and loaded it is.
The regular season is winding down, and so it's important for the Tigers to play their best basketball starting next week.
Tekamah-Herman is going to be challenged from here on out I believe. I don't think there are any gimme games left on the schedule.
