Howells-Dodge Boys top Pender; lose to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder
The Howells-Dodge Boys won 62-41 at Pender on Saturday before falling 53-28 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Tuesday night.
The Jaguars led the Pendragons 17-11 after one. Howells-Dodge outscored Pender 21-9 in the second quarter to take a 38-20 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars won the third quarter 10-8 to go up 48-28 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge outlasted the Pendragons 14-13 in the fourth quarter.
Connor Blum led the way with 14 points and 8 rebounds while Caden Jackson totaled 10 points. Jordon Brichacek added 8 while Kade Hegemann totaled 7. Lane Hegemann notched 8 rebounds while Dax VanLengen registered 7.
Head Coach Cole Fischer on the win. "I thought we had quite of few guys off the bench step up and produce. We have a busy week with the conference tournament."
LV/SS jumped out to an 18-2 lead on the Jaguars at the end of one. The Raiders outscored Howells-Dodge 11-6 in the second quarter to take a 29-8 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars outlasted LV/SS 14-8 in the third quarter to make it a 37-22 game at the end of three.
The Raiders won the fourth quarter 16-6.
Blum had a team-high 10 points.
Fischer. "We had trouble handling pressure, but we played with some guts in the second half. "
Howells-Dodge (9-8) takes on Madison (6-9) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at home on Saturday.
The Dragons beat Pender 77-59 at home Monday night.
This is the first and only meeting between the Jaguars and Pendragons this season, and it should be a good one.
Madison isn't all that bad, and they are a bigger school than Howells-Dodge.
With that said, I like the Jaguars to find a way to win a close game.
The game being at Howells-Dodge heavily factors into my pick.
The Jaguars have been anything but consistent this year, but I think Howells-Dodge will do enough to beat the Dragons.
The Jaguars have to play much better than they did against the Raiders though.
It's going to be awfully tough for Howells-Dodge to win if they only put up 28 points again.
Kade and Lane Hegemann, Van Lengen, Blum, Jackson, and Brichacek all need to have big games for the Jaguars.
A win would give Howells-Dodge a rematch with LV/SS, and I think the Jaguars would welcome another shot at the Raiders from the standpoint that I'm sure Howells-Dodge feels they can play much better the second time around against LV/SS than they did the first time around.
I don't know how much of a factor the Jaguars will be beyond the first round, but I think Howells-Dodge can win at least a couple of games in this tournament.
I'm not expecting the Jaguars to win the tournament by any means, but I think Howells-Dodge can compete well, keep things close, and play very respectable basketball.
The Jaguars need to play well in this tournament given their schedule to close out the regular season.
The slate isn't easy for Howells-Dodge after the tournament is over, and so the Jaguars need to try and be as consistent as possible in this tournament to get themselves playing at a level to give themselves a chance to compete in and win their last three regular season games and do well in the postseason.
Saturday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
