Howells-Dodge Boys 2-1 in last three games; Girls 4-0 in last four

The Howells-Dodge Boys upset Humphrey St. Francis 49-46 at home Friday night, beat Plainview 54-31 on the road Saturday, and lost 55-49 at home to BRLD Monday night.

The Jaguars led the Flyers 9-8 after one. Humphrey St. Francis won the second quarter 9-8 to tie the game at 17 at halftime.

The Flyers outscored Howells-Dodge 17-15 in the third quarter to go up 34-32 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outlasted Humphrey St. Francis 17-12 in the fourth quarter.

Zach Bayer led the way with 11 points while Lane Hegemann had 10. Dax VanLengen added 9 points and 8 rebounds while Connor Blum registered 8 points.

Head Coach Cole Fischer on the win.

"This was a great win for us. We have use this win in this tough stretch in January. We played with emotion and great team defense."

Howells-Dodge led the Pirates 14-9 after one. The Jaguars won the second quarter 12-10 to take a 26-19 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge outscored Plainview 16-3 in the third quarter to go up 42-22 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outlasted the Pirates 12-9 in the fourth quarter.

Hegemann led the way with 16 points and 8 rebounds while Kade Hegemann added 9 points. Blum and Bayer totaled 8 points apiece while VanLengen registered 7.

Fischer.

"This was a good win after a quick turnaround from Friday night."

Howells-Dodge led BRLD 17-15 at the end of the first. Both teams scored 13 points in the second quarter, and the Jaguars led 30-28 at halftime.

Howells-Dodge won the third quarter 13-11 to go up 43-39 after three.

The Wolverines outlasted the Jaguars 16-6 in the fourth quarter.

Blum had a game-high 20 points while Kade Hegemann totaled 13 points. Lane Hegemann chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Fischer says his team's passive offensive play in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference,

"We didn't attack the basket in the 4th quarter and that proved to be the game. We will learn from this and hope it helps us down the road."

Howells-Dodge (7-6) takes on Clarkson/Leigh (0-11) on the road Thursday night.

The Patriots lost 61-27 at GACC on Saturday.

This is a rivalry game, and anything can happen, so the Jaguars must be ready to go.

Howells-Dodge has to put Clarkson/Leigh away when they have the chance.

The Jaguars have been good at putting games away this year, but must play well for four quarters.

It takes a good four quarters to beat a team like BRLD, and Howells-Dodge is going to need to play well in every quarter to make sure they take care of business this time around against the Patriots, in my opinion.

The Jaguars could perhaps get away with only playing well for 2 or 3 quarters against Clarkson/Leigh, but don't want to do that for consistency purposes.

Howells-Dodge has to learn how to put teams away on a consistent basis.

The Jaguars had two really nice wins over the weekend, but would have loved to have gotten the game against the Wolverines.

It's a lesson learned though, and Howells-Dodge has a shot at redemption Thursday night.

The Jaguars also have a home game against Wisner-Pilger Friday night that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull so I'd say Howells-Dodge has chances to pick up two big wins this week.

The Jaguars have gotten better as the season has gone along and have gotten better, it's now simply a matter of getting on a winning streak and rolling.

Howells-Dodge has to continue to play well on defense, and be aggressive and attack offensively.

The Jaguars should look to get out and run, run, run Thursday and Friday nights.

Howells-Dodge definitely has what it takes to win both games this week, but it's going to take a tremendous effort on their part to get the job done.

The Jaguars can't take either team lightly or for granted, and must play superior basketball for 32 minutes.

If Howells-Dodge can do these things, they should have a good chance to win both nights.

The Howells-Dodge Girls won 61-34 at home over Humphrey St. Francis Friday night, beat Plainview 69-21 on the road Saturday, downed BRLD 63-47 at home Monday night, and won 45-28 at Lutheran High Northeast Tuesday night.

The Jaguars led the Flyers 15-7 after one. Howells-Dodge outscored Humphrey St. Francis 23-15 in the second quarter to take a 38-22 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars outlasted the Flyers 15-7 in the third quarter to go up 53-29 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the fourth quarter 8-5.

Sam Brester led the way with 19 points while Erin Prusa and Emily Ritzdorf notched 9 apiece.

The Jaguars jumped out to a 23-4 lead on the Pirates at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored Plainview 30-4 in the second quarter to take a 53-8 lead into the locker room.

The Pirates outlasted the Jaguars 11-5 in the third quarter to make it a 58-19 lead after three.

Howells-Dodge won the fourth quarter 11-2.

Brester led the way with 25 points while Macey Kulhanek recorded 13 and Jessi Brester posted 8.

The Jaguars jumped out to a 21-11 lead on BRLD at the end of one. The Wolverines outscored Howells-Dodge 20-12 in the second quarter to make it a 33-31 game at halftime.

The Jaguars won the third quarter 11-9 to go up 44-40 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge outlasted BRLD 19-7 in the fourth quarter.

Sam Brester posted 25 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Ritzdorf added 17 points.

The Jaguars led the Eagles 10-9 at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored Lutheran High Northeast 11-6 in the second quarter to lead 21-15 at halftime.

The Jaguars outlasted the Eagles 15-9 in the third quarter to go up 36-24 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the fourth quarter 9-4.

I thought the Jaguars played really good basketball during this stretch.

Howells-Dodge certainly didn't play poorly.

The Jaguars (12-1) host Wisner-Pilger (5-7) Friday night.

The Gators lost 60-43 at home to Wayne Monday night.

Wisner-Pilger isn't a bad team, and has some girls who can play, but Howells-Dodge is simply on too big a roll right now to lose, in my opinion.

The Jaguars have responded well to the GACC loss, and have taken care of business exactly the way they needed to.

I thought Howells-Dodge could have beaten LHNE by more, but playing 4 games in 5 days you can certainly understand why that game was a little closer than expected.

The Jaguars should be able to rest some until Friday for Friday night's game against Wisner-Pilger and Saturday's game against Columbus Scotus.

Howells-Dodge needs to be at their best and on top of their game this weekend.

It's time for the Jaguars to go full blow, and go toe to toe with both opponents.

Howells-Dodge needs to play well in both games to win, especially on Saturday.

The Shamrocks have won 8 out of their last 9 since starting the season 0-2 so it should be a great game and battle on Saturday.

The Gators are no slouch though and should not be taken lightly.

The Jaguars must come to play both nights, and must turn in good performances in both games.

Howells-Dodge has to be focused, ready, determined, and on top of their game to come away with two W's this weekend.

Friday night's game will be aired on 107.9 the Bull with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

It should be a fun game to listen to Friday night. The Jaguars are one of the top teams in our area, and I think Howells-Dodge will play well and flex their muscles.

If the Jaguars could find a way to win both games this weekend it would be huge.

I think the Scotus game will be a really good measuring stick as to how Howells-Dodge stacks up and compares to some of the other teams in C-1 and C-2.
