Winnebago Boys 3-0 in last three games; Girls winless in last four

The Winnebago Boys are 3-0 in their last three games, downing Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 86-70 on the road last Friday night, Oakland-Craig 90-69 last Saturday, and Wynot 48-37 at home Friday night.

The Indians led the Bears 19-15 after one. Winnebago outscored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 25-15 in the second quarter to take a 44-30 lead into the locker room.

The Indians outlasted the Bears 25-18 to go up 69-48 at the end of three.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the fourth quarter 22-17.

D'Von Lapointe had a team-high 21 points for the Bluejays. Drake Gorrin and Cedrick Blackdeer totaled 18 and 17, respectively. Miguel Baker added 10.

Winnebago jumped on the Knights 32-10 at the end of one. The Indians outscored Oakland-Craig 24-18 in the second quarter to take a 56-28 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago won the third quarter 20-16 to go up 76-44 at the end of three.

The Knights outlasted the Indians 25-14 in the fourth quarter.

David Wingett led the way with 23 points while Manape Cleveland registered 19. Gorrin and Lapointe scored 12 and 8, respectively.

I think Winnebago played really good basketball against Oakland-Craig, and respectable basketball against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge as well.

Winnebago (14-1) is scheduled to take on Ponca (11-3) Tuesday night on the road.

Ponca won 52-43 at Elk Point-Jefferson, SD Friday night.

It's the only game on the schedule for Winnebago next week so the Indians could potentially have a week and-a-half in between games if Tuesday's game is postponed.

I thought Winnebago's defense really stepped up against Wynot. I think the Indians showed they can win games in different ways.

I think that's only going to help Winnebago down the stretch.

The Indians have some tough games at the end of the regular season so it's important for Winnebago to keep learning, growing, and improving.

This team has already established itself as being great, but there's always room to get better.

What could hurt Winnebago if they do play Tuesday is a lack of practice time with school likely getting called off on Monday.

That's just mother nature for you though. It's just something the Indians will have to deal with.

If Winnebago does play on Tuesday, they have to be ready to go from the get go. I'm sure the players will enjoy their time off, but once the Indians take the floor again they have to be all business.

This is a tough and unique situation for Winnebago and that they don't know if they're going to play on Tuesday, but at the same time I guess everyone is in the same boat.

I don't know how active the players can be being all cooped up inside during the winter storm. I can't really suggest continuing to be active because all there really is to do during a winter storm is hangout indoors and stay warm.

I guess the players could stay active by scooping snow and icing sidewalk and street though so that could be a good physical activity.

The Winnebago Girls are 0-4 in their last four games, falling 50-33 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Friday night, 78-39 at home to Oakland-Craig last Saturday, 70-37 at home to GACC Thursday night, and 60-20 at home to Wynot Friday night.

The Bears led 11-4 after one. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored Winnebago 15-6 in the second quarter to lead 26-10 at halftime.

The Indians outlasted the Bears 12-5 in the third quarter to make it a 31-22 game at the end of three.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the fourth quarter 19-11.

The Knights jumped out to a 25-11 lead at the end of one. Oakland-Craig won the second quarter 14-12 to take a 39-23 lead into the locker room.

The Knights tripled up the Indians 21-7 in the third quarter to go up 60-30 after three.

Oakland-Craig doubled up Winnebago 18-9 in the fourth quarter.

Jasmine Colvin had a team-high 14 points and 9 rebounds while Bailey Blackdeer totaled 10 points.

The Bluejays and Indians were tied at 15 after one. GACC outscored Winnebago 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 29-19 lead into the locker room.

The Bluejays outlasted the Indians 28-8 in the third quarter to go up 57-27 after three.

GACC won the fourth quarter 13-10.

I don't know if Winnebago has bit bitten by the injury bug or what, but the Indians have really struggled over their last four games.

Winnebago (4-12) is scheduled to take on Ponca (12-3) Tuesday night on the road.

Ponca won 46-36 at Elk Point-Jefferson, SD Friday night.

Winnebago also has a tough game at Pierce on Friday so the slate is certainly challenging for the Indians next week.

This isn't a good time for Winnebago to play these two teams, in my opinion.

Perhaps Tuesday's game will get postponed due to the weather, but regardless of if Winnebago plays on Tuesday, the Indians have to prepare themselves the best they can for Friday's game.

Winnebago has to be mentally and physically ready to take on a team like Pierce.

The Bluejays are the real deal, and for the Indians to hang with a team like them it's going to take a tremendous effort.

Winnebago can't get down on themselves or have the feeling that they're not going to win.

The Indians have to believe they can win because that's the only way it is going to happen.

Winnebago has had a tough last couple of weeks, but things can definitely change and turn around for the Indians if they find a way to knock off Pierce on Friday, or even Ponca on Tuesday if they play.

The biggest thing for Winnebago is to be mentally prepared to play on Tuesday. The Indians have to have the attitude and idea that they are playing Tuesday unless they are told otherwise.

We'll see what happens next week, but Winnebago has to find a way to compete and play well to get their season turned around.

The Indians' recent struggles need to be halted and can't continue or they could end up defining Winnebago's season.

The Indians have to do everything they can to play better basketball and be a more effective team whenever they take the floor next.
