Wisner-Pilger Boys and Girls split games with Howells-Dodge and Logan View/Scribner-Snyder

The Wisner-Pilger Boys won 56-39 at Howells-Dodge Friday night before losing 50-40 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday.

The Gators led early and often against the Jaguars, going up 14-9 after one. The Jaguars won the second quarter 14-13 to make it a 27-23 game at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger ran away with things in the second half, outscoring Howells-Dodge 16-7 in the third quarter to go up 43-30 at the end of three.

The Gators outlasted the Jaguars 13-9 in the fourth quarter.

Jayden Raabe and Keegan Ruskamp had 16 points apiece to lead Wisner-Pilger. Hunter Waterman added 10.

Head Coach Duane Mendlik.

"Well I really felt defensively we really played well. Especially in the first half. Got out of the block so to speak, and really played well. Got some steals. Our quickness tonight showed up a little bit. Got some easy shots. Makes it a little easier to start the game."

The Raiders led the Gators 12-10 after one. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder outscored Wisner-Pilger 19-15 in the second quarter to take a 31-25 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders won the third quarter 6-4 to go up 37-29 at the end of three.

LV/SS outlasted the Gators 13-11 in the fourth quarter.

I thought Wisner-Pilger played well in both games. The Gators definitely hung in there tough against a really good and hot Raiders' team.

Wisner-Pilger (5-8) hosts Pender (4-9) Thursday night.

The Pendragons lost 71-19 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night.

The Gators and Pender may have about the same record, but Wisner-Pilger should have no trouble winning whatsoever.

All of the Pendragons' wins have come to teams with a combined two wins while the Gators have beaten three teams with records of .500 or better.

Wisner-Pilger will no doubt be very hungry and anxious to get back out on the court too given the way they played last week and the weather earlier this week.

The Gators have to come out focused and ready to take care of business with a business like attitude.

Wisner-Pilger has to jump out to an early lead on Pender and never look back.

The one thing the Gators cannot afford to let happen is to allow the Pendragons to keep things close.

If Pender manages to stay in the game through three quarters things could get mighty interesting in the 4th.

That's why Wisner-Pilger can't let that happen. The Gators have to put the Pendragons away rather quickly.

Wisner-Pilger has a tough game at Twin River on Saturday, but the Gators have to continue to take things one game at a time.

All games are important, and Pender deserves Wisner-Pilger's respect and attention.

That means the Gators can't take the Pendragons lightly and be looking ahead to Saturday's game with the Titans.

Wisner-Pilger has to build off last week's play and continue to improve and get better.

I feel the Gators are improving and getting better every week so we'll see how much progress Wisner-Pilger can make this week.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls lost 53-49 at Howells-Dodge Friday night before topping Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at home on Saturday.

Howells-Dodge doubled up Wisner-Pilger 18-9 in the first quarter. The Jaguars outscored the Gators 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 32-15 lead into the locker room.

The Gators won the third quarter 11-10 to make it a 42-26 game at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger outlasted Howells-Dodge 23-11 in the fourth quarter as Alexis Heller hit a half court shot at the buzzer for the Gators.

Heller and Maci Batenhorst paced Wisner-Pilger with 14 points apiece while Jordan Wegner added 12.

Head Coach Karrie Bodwell on the loss.

"Howells-Dodge is a great team. We knew it was going to be tough. And when we came out in the first half I thought first quarter we kind of played with a fake confidence. We thought ok we can do this we can do this. Second quarter was pretty rough, but after halftime I think the girls just kind of found a new level finally, that just were tired of rolling over, and they just got after it."

The Raiders tripled up the Gators 18-6 after one. Both teams scored 9 points in the second quarter, and the halftime score was 27-15 in favor of Wisner-Pilger.

LV/SS doubled up the Gators 12-6 in the third quarter, and the score after three was 33-27 with Wisner-Pilger on top.

The Gators outscored the Raiders 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

Give credit to LV/SS for playing well, but Wisner-Pilger probably should of been able to beat the Raiders by more than they did.

The Gators (6-8) host Pender (13-2) Thursday night.

The Pendragons beat North Bend Central 47-43 at home this past Thursday night.

Pender will have had an entire week off, and without a lot of practice time earlier this week due to the weather, I think Wisner-Pilger could be at a disadvantage.

I could also see the circumstances working in the Gators' favor though as I could see Wisner-Pilger coming out and playing inspired.

The Gators played a great fourth quarter against Howells-Dodge, and if Wisner-Pilger can do that for the entire game against the Pendragons, they may be able to come out with a win.

The Gators struggled against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and have been so inconsistent though that it's hard to know and tell what you're going to get from Wisner-Pilger on any given night.

It's really hard saying how well the Gators are going to play Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger has a really tough game at Twin River on Saturday as well so the Gators need to play well this week to give themselves a chance in both games.

Wisner-Pilger has a difficult slate of games prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament. No game is a gimme or a certain win.

With that said, the Gators have to come out revved and jacked up and ready to go Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger has to play inspired and out of their minds basketball to come away with two victories this week.

If the Gators play the way they did against the Jaguars in the fourth quarter of that game they can beat anyone they play.

Wisner-Pilger has to have that high gear all the time though. The Gators can't teeter between a high level of play and a lower level of play.

Wisner-Pilger has to figure out how to play complete, four quarter games all the time. If the Gators can do that it could make all the difference.
