Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys beat West Point-Beemer and Howells-Dodge; Girls lose to both
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys won 47-35 at home over West Point-Beemer on Saturday, and 53-28 at Howells-Dodge Tuesday night.
The Raiders and Cadets were tied at 8 at the end of one. West Point-Beemer won the second quarter 12-10 to lead 20-18 at halftime.
LV/SS outscored the Cadets 11-6 in the third quarter to go up 29-26 at the end of three.
The Raiders doubled up West Point-Beemer 18-9 in the fourth quarter.
Ben Moxness led the way with 20 points while Alex Hagerbaumer and Jacob Polk totaled 14 and 10, respectively.
LV/SS jumped out to an 18-2 lead on the Jaguars at the end of one. The Raiders outscored Howells-Dodge 11-6 in the second quarter to take a 29-8 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars outlasted LV/SS 14-8 in the third quarter to make it a 37-22 game at the end of three.
The Raiders won the fourth quarter 16-6.
Moxness led the way with 24 points and 8 rebounds while Polk notched 18 points.
LV/SS is playing great basketball right now. The Raiders have really hit their stride, in my opinion.
LV/SS (12-4) will face either Howells-Dodge (9-8) or Madison (6-9) at home Tuesday night.
The Raiders have beaten both teams once this year already, and I anticipate LV/SS taking care of business again Tuesday night.
Moxness is the real deal, in my opinion, and Polk isn't too shabby either.
More impressive than those two individual players though is this team's defense.
The Raiders do an excellent job of playing suffocating, in your face defense.
Defense wins championships, and if LV/SS continues to play the way they have, the Raiders can definitely make the state tournament.
Plenty of challenges still lie ahead for LV/SS, but not challenges the Raiders can't pass, in my opinion.
This is a huge tournament for LV/SS, and I think the Raiders have a good chance to find themselves in Columbus next Saturday, playing for the championship, or at the very least third place.
LV/SS just has to stay focused and remain hungry. The Raiders' work isn't done yet. LV/SS has done a lot of great things so far this season, but there is work still to be done.
The Raiders have to continue playing the way they have during this winning streak. If LV/SS stays hot throughout this tournament there's no doubt in my mind that they can win it.
The Raiders should use this time off to mentally and physically prepare themselves for the tough games that lie ahead.
LV/SS should use this time to scout and prepare to their advantage.
Whoever plays the Raiders on Tuesday figures to have a tough time with LV/SS one way or another. The Raiders' opponent on Tuesday will be playing on shorter rest than LV/SS will.
Tuesday's game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls lost 55-32 at home to West Point-Beemer on Saturday before falling 71-30 at Howells-Dodge Tuesday night.
LVSS used a big third quarter to get back into the West Point-Beemer game, but ran out of gas in the final period.
Kaylee Boyle led the scoring with 11 points, Ashley Peters was also in double figures with 10 points, other scorers were Sierra Beacom-6, Mackenzy Schreck-4, Morgan Morgan-1.
The Jaguars jumped out to a 23-4 lead on the Raiders at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored LV/SS 17-10 in the second quarter to take a 40-14 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars outlasted the Raiders 16-9 in the third quarter to go up 56-23 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge won the fourth quarter 15-7.
Boyle led the way with a team-high 11 points while Mackenzy Schreck notched 11 rebounds.
I thought LV/SS played a solid third quarter against the Cadets and played decent against Howells-Dodge, with the exception of the first quarter.
The Raiders (4-12) travel to Pender on Friday to take on the Pendragons (14-4) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament.
Pender lost 55-45 at home to Howells-Dodge last time out.
The Pendragons are expected to win easily and advance to the next round. No one expects LV/SS to win.
The Raiders have to forget about all that though and find a way to play good basketball Friday night.
LV/SS played well against Wisner-Pilger on Saturday, January 14th, in my opinion, but has struggled since.
There's no doubt the Raiders can get back to playing better basketball though. It may not happen against Pender Friday night, but LV/SS might be able to pick up a win in consolation play.
The Raiders have to keep working hard and believing, and if they do that, success and wins will come their way.
LV/SS is already having a better season than they have in recent years, and that has to be something to build off of for the Raiders.
LV/SS has to play hard and play smart Friday night, and see what happens.
Pender has struggled in recent games so perhaps the Raiders can shock the conference and state.
LV/SS has to get off to a strong start Friday night and try their best to hang in there and keep things close.
If the Raiders can hang around and make a game of it until the fourth quarter, they might be able to pull it off, but LV/SS is going to have to play awfully well to get the job done.
Anything can happen so the Raiders have to play optimistic and think they have a chance at the upset.
