Winnebago Boys rout BRLD; Girls fall to Wolverines
The Winnebago Boys routed BRLD 87-43 at home Thursday night.
The Indians led 29-10 after one. Winnebago doubled up the Wolverines 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 53-22 lead into the locker room.
The Indians outscored BRLD 19-11 in the third quarter to go up 72-33 at the end of three.
Winnebago won the fourth quarter 15-10.
Winnebago appeared to be pretty ticked off given what happened against Ponca on Saturday.
Winnebago (16-2) takes on either Homer (1-15) or Creighton (3-13) in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at home Monday night.
The Indians should have no trouble dispatching of either team whatsoever. Winnebago should be able to roll either team, regardless of who it is.
The Knights and Bulldogs play Friday night so the Indians will know their first round opponent by night's end.
Winnebago should be focused on both teams at the moment, but can solely focus on one team once there is a winner in this game.
The Indians have to play the way they did against BRLD every night out. Winnebago can be C-1 State Champs when they play like that.
Bishop Neumann and others are very good though, and the Indians can't get away with these games where they have close calls, or in the case of Ponca, a loss, if they hope to win it all in C-1 again.
Winnebago has to bring the thunder night in and night out, and flat out dominate people.
I don't think the Indians have been as dominate as they can be so far this season, but I feel Winnebago took a big step in the right direction with Thursday night's win.
This tournament is huge for the Indians, in my opinion. If Winnebago can roll through every team in it, that may get them ready and prepared for the last three games of the regular season, and the postseason.
The Indians were hit with adversity last weekend, but responded well to it.
Now it's a matter of Winnebago continuing to build off what they did against the Wolverines, and turning that win into more dominant wins.
The Indians have so much talent and potential, and I would hate to see Winnebago get beat again due to what I think is not playing up to their potential.
I feel Winnebago has underachieved at times this season, but played really well at others.
If the Indians can bring their best every game from here on out they may not lose another game this season.
Monday night's game is set to start at 7:45.
The Winnebago Girls lost 80-50 at home to BRLD Thursday night.
The Wolverines led 24-7 at the end of one. BRLD outscored the Indians 21-13 in the second quarter to take a 45-20 lead into the locker room.
Winnebago won the third quarter 16-13 to make it a 58-36 game at the end of three.
The Wolverines outlasted the Indians 22-14 in the fourth quarter.
A slow start really hurt Winnebago in this game, in my opinion. Getting down 24-7 really prevented the Indians from picking up the win, in my opinion.
Winnebago (5-15) takes on Bloomfield (13-5) in Bloomfield in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Saturday.
The Bees won 47-25 at home over Osmond Monday night.
I don't expect this game to be easy for the Indians by any means, but Bloomfield has only beaten one team with a winning record and is in Class D-1 so I think Winnebago has a chance.
The Indians are the bigger school so that has to mean something for Winnebago.
The Indians have to come out and play with Bago Pride.
Winnebago has to represent their school well, and make everyone proud.
A first round conference tournament win would be really big for the Indians, in my opinion.
I think an upset would give Winnebago the confidence and belief that they can upset anyone in this tournament, which is definitely a possibility.
Upsets happen all the time, and I don't see why the Indians can't go out there and get the job done on Saturday.
I look for Winnebago to give Bloomfield all they can handle, and make things interesting.
This may be a 4/13 seed matchup, but I don't think it's your typical 4 vs. 13.
I see this game going one of two ways. I can see the Indians hanging in there for a while and coming close to pulling off the upset, or actually pulling the upset.
I don't see Winnebago blowing out the Bees or getting blown out themselves for that matter.
I look for the Indians to come out of the gates fast and perhaps jump on Bloomfield early and build an early lead.
We'll see what happens, but I have a feeling this game is going to be good and close.
Winnebago may come up short, but win or lose, I see there being positive things for the Indians to take away from the game.
Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m.
