BRLD Boys beat Ponca, lose to Wakefield; Girls rout Stanton

The BRLD Boys won 57-51 at home over Ponca last Saturday before falling 59-55 at Wakefield last Tuesday night.

The Indians led 9-8 at the end of one. The Wolverines won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to tie the game at 20 at halftime.

BRLD won the 3rd quarter 22-19 to go up 42-39 at the end of three.

The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 15-12.

Dylan Beutler had a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds. Toriano Bohannon Jr. added 9 points while Zach Hegge notched 8.

BRLD went up 13-10 at the end of one on the Trojans. Wakefield won the 2nd quarter 14-10 to pull in front 24-23 at halftime.

BRLD outscored the Trojans 20-13 in the 3rd quarter to go back in front 43-37 at the end of three.

Wakefield outscored the Wolverines 22-12 in the 4th quarter.

Beutler had a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds while Micah Henschen totaled 14 points. Bohannon Jr. added 10.

Good play from BRLD despite the fact that Lucas Vogt is out with an ankle injury.

The Wolverines had to miss a few games due to COVID-19 and the weather.

BRLD (8-3) takes on Pender (1-15) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Howells on Saturday.

The Pendragons fell 59-31 at home to Howells-Dodge on Saturday.

I look for the Wolverines to win this one and rematch with Howells-Dodge in the Quarterfinals on Tuesday.

If Vogt is back for that one I think BRLD wins, but if not then I could see the Jaguars winning again.

That's of course if both teams win their first round games as Howells-Dodge also plays Madison on Saturday.

You would think the two are on a crash course to meet again though.

Still though the Wolverines will have had over a week and-a-half off in between games so you worry about being sluggish, at least to start if you are BRLD.

The Wolverines should be able to overcome a slow start should they have one, however.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Howells.

The BRLD Girls routed Stanton 71-39 at home on Saturday.

The Wolverines led 21-9 at the end of one, and outscored the Mustangs 24-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 45-20 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 12-10 to make it a 55-32 game at the end of three.

BRLD outscored the Mustangs 16-7 in the 4th quarter.

Jordan Snyder had 19 points while Isabel Freemont totaled 18. Caragan Tietz recorded 10 points and 9 assists while Alyssa Buchholz notched 10 points.

Dominant win for the Wolverines.

BRLD (11-4) takes on Twin River (2-15) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey Friday night.

The Titans lost 53-32 at West Point-Beemer last Friday night.

The Wolverines should be able to roll and dominate in this one.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family would be a tough challenge should the two teams play on Monday, but I think BRLD can beat the Bulldogs.

I really feel as if the Wolverines could be a Darkhorse/Sleeper in this tournament.

I feel like BRLD has a good chance to make some noise and make a run in this tournament.

Friday night's game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
