BRLD Boys beat Oakland-Craig and Wakefield; Girls fall to Knights, beat Wakefield-Allen
The BRLD Boys Basketball Team routed Oakland-Craig 66-37 at home on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 71-35 at home over Wakefield Tuesday night.
The Wolverines doubled up the Knights 20-10 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Oakland-Craig 19-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-16 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 14-9 to go up 53-25 at the end of three.
The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 13-12.
Dylan Beutler led all scorers with 21 points while Lucas Vogt totaled 20 points and 7 rebounds. Jaxon Johnson added 9 points and 8 rebounds.
The Wolverines tripled up the Trojans 18-6 in the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 22-17 to take a 40-23 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 12-7 to extend their lead to 52-30 at the end of three.
The Wolverines outscored Wakefield 19-5 in the 4th quarter.
Beutler had 19 points and 8 rebounds while Vogt totaled 17 points and 7 assists, and Darwin Snyder 14 points and 7 assists. Johnson added 8 points while Will Gatzemeyer notched 7.
Continued dominance from BRLD.
The Wolverines (13-0) host Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (13-1) Friday night.
The Bulldogs won 72-29 at home over Summerland Monday night.
This is a battle of defending State Champions in their respective classes.
It should be a great game like last year, but I look for BRLD to win.
This game is big in terms of East Husker Conference Tournament seeding.
The Wolverines should be able to win I would think, but BRLD has to be ready.
Anyone can be beaten on any given night so the Wolverines have to be ready to rock and roll from the get go.
If BRLD does what they have done all year then they should be fine.
I don't anticipate the Wolverines having any issues with the Bulldogs whatsoever.
BRLD got behind by like 20 points or so last year and had to come from behind, but I don't see that happening again this year.
I look for the Wolverines to start strong and play well, and come out and dominate from start to finish.
BRLD is a great team, and may not lose a game this year.
The Wolverines have been really good, even better this year than they were last year.
BRLD does have a game against Class B and undefeated Hastings on February 15th at the Heartland Hoops Classic, but I see that as being the Wolverines' only potential stumbling block.
BRLD might win that game, who knows, but the Wolverines have to focus on beating Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family right now.
The Bulldogs will come in and give BRLD their best shot and everything they got so the Wolverines have to be ready to counter that with great play of their own.
As long as BRLD plays at a high level like they have all season long then I don't see them having any trouble whatsoever.
But if the Wolverines come out cocky and arrogant and not ready to play then they could get beat.
The BRLD Girls lost a heartbreaker, 55-52 at home to Oakland-Craig on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 81-56 at home over Wakefield-Allen Tuesday night.
Chaney Nelson hit a buzzer beating three-pointer to lift the Knights past the Wolverines as Oakland-Craig outscored BRLD 25-10 in the 4th quarter.
That coming after the game was tied at 10 at the end of one, and the Wolverines went up 25-21 at halftime, and outscored the Knights 17-9 in the 3rd quarter to take a 42-30 lead into the final frame.
Jordan Snyder had a team-high 14 points while Caragan Tietz and Kailynn Lovejoy recorded 10 apiece. Aubrey Berg added 8.
BRLD led the Trojans 19-15 at the end of the 1st quarter, and outscored Wakefield-Allen 24-15 in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-30 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines outscored the Trojans 24-10 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 67-40 at the end of three.
Wakefield-Allen won the 4th quarter 16-14.
Good bounce back win for BRLD on Tuesday, but man what a tough, tough, heartbreaking loss on Saturday.
The Wolverines (14-1) host Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (14-1) Friday night.
The Bulldogs won 62-44 at home over Summerland Monday night.
This figures to be very tough and challenging game for BRLD.
It's also a huge game for East Husker Conference Tournament Seeding.
I think the Wolverines are the better team, and being at home helps, but BRLD has to get after things defensively.
The Wolverines weren't as dominant against the Trojans as they were prior to the loss to the Knights, in my opinion.
It takes time to get over tough losses there's no doubt about that, but BRLD has to be over it by now.
The Wolverines need to refocus and regroup against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The winner of this game would likely get the 3 seed in the upcoming Conference Tournament while the loser probably gets the 4.
All top 6 or 7 teams in this conference are very good, especially the top 4, and even the top 2.
We'll see how it all shakes out in terms of Conference Tournament seeding, but I would anticipate BRLD getting the 3 or 4 seed.
The Wolverines need to reestablish their dominance and dominant ways Friday night.
The Bulldogs are coming into their house, and BRLD has to defend their home floor.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has been kind of up and down in their wins as some are by huge margins and others are close games.
I do feel like the Wolverines play a bit of a tougher schedule though so that should help BRLD out quite a bit I would think.
The Wolverines have to really get after it defensively, and shoot the lights out of the ball on offense as well.
BRLD has to recommit themselves to the defensive end of the floor after giving up 56 to Wakefield-Allen Tuesday night.
