Howells-Dodge Boys 1-1 in last two games; Girls 2-1 in last three
UPDATE:
Both games have been postponed
The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team lost 75-58 at Humphrey St. Francis Friday night before winning 72-38 at home over Plainview on Saturday.
The Flyers doubled up the Jaguars 20-10 in the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 17-14 to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
St. Francis won the 3rd quarter 23-18 to extend their lead to 60-42 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 16-15.
The Jaguars led the Pirates 23-10 after one. Both teams scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter, and Howells-Dodge led 39-26 at halftime.
The Jaguars outscored Plainview 23-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 62-31 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 10-7.
Great win over the Pirates.
The Jaguars (7-5) are scheduled to take on Wisner-Pilger (7-4) on the road Friday night.
The Gators lost 62-39 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.
Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
These two are kind of rivals in a way, and it would be too bad if they couldn't play on Friday.
Of course there is a chance the game would be made up, but I'm sure the kids from both schools want to play.
However, it is best to heed the weather and be safe rather than sorry.
So if it is bad it will probably be best to call it off rather than play it.
Howells-Dodge is also scheduled to play Mead on Saturday so it will be interesting to see what the weather does in the Wahoo area.
Of course the weather could be worse down there than up here or vice versa.
So we will just have to wait and see what the weather does.
It would be great if the Jaguars could get one or both games in this weekend, but it's all dependent on mother nature.
The weather will do what it does, and we all will have to adapt and adjust to it, regardless of what it does.
It should be a heck of a battle if the two teams play.
Two teams who are very familiar with and know one another well.
It could be all for not though with the weather, but perhaps the weather won't hit and the two teams will get to play after all.
It could get nasty, but perhaps mother nature won't dump as much as snow and ice on the area as they are predicting.
It will be interesting to see what happens and if games get played.
I would anticipate there is a fairly decent chance they will get postponed, but we will just have to wait and see.
The Howells-Dodge Girls lost 66-35 at Humphrey St. Francis Friday night before winning 57-49 at home over Plainview on Saturday, and 66-58 at home over Lutheran High Northeast Tuesday night.
The Flyers got out to a 16-9 lead at the end of one, and outscored the Jaguars 14-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-15 lead into the locker room.
St. Francis doubled up Howells-Dodge 22-11 in the 3rd quarter to build a 52-26 lead at the end of three.
The Flyers won the 4th quarter 14-9.
Brooklyn Macholan had a team-high 13 points and 8 rebounds while Cassie Pieper totaled 7 points.
The Jaguars got out to a 16-2 lead on the Pirates at the end of one. Howells-Dodge outscored Plainview 16-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-12 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars won the 3rd quarter 16-14 to extend their lead to 48-26 at the end of three.
The Pirates outscored Howells-Dodge 23-9 in the 4th quarter.
Jaedyn Ratzlaff led all scorers with 24 points while Riley Pokorny recorded 9. Macholan added 7 while Janessa Schmidt registered 9 rebounds.
The Jaguars got out to a 19-11 lead on the Eagles at the end of one. LHNE won the 2nd quarter 15-12 to make it a 31-26 game at halftime.
Howells-Dodge outscored the Eagles 19-10 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 50-36 at the end of three.
LHNE won the 4th quarter 22-16.
Pieper had 20 points to lead the way while Ratzlaff added 15. Schmidt and Blair Fiala notched 8 apiece while Pokorny totaled 7.
I think it's safe to say the Jaguars' confidence really grew after the win over Plainview. The type of scoring Howells-Dodge got from those five against the Eagles is what the Jaguars have been missing and lacking all season long, and is what they need to continue to have.
Howells-Dodge (3-10) is scheduled to play Wisner-Pilger (2-10) on the road Friday night.
The Gators lost 58-48 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.
Wisner-Pilger is kind of having a tough year, but the Gators have played well in their last two games.
Of course the Jaguars played the Bulldogs tough too, taking them to OT earlier this season.
Howells-Dodge has played such a difficult schedule, and now is hitting the part of the schedule where more wins should come.
Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
We will see what happens and what mother nature decides to do, but hopefully the Jaguars get to play.
Howells-Dodge played well on Tuesday and the last thing you want to see is a postponement/cancellation.
It's all part of the game and the winter season though.
These things happen, and when games are postponed all the team can do is adjust and adapt to the best of their ability.
The Jaguars are supposed to also play Mead on Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Howells-Dodge can at least get one game in this weekend.
Hopefully the Jaguars get to play at least one of the nights.
Tough games with Tekamah-Herman and Pender loom next weekend.
We will soon find out if this weekend's games get played though.
If the games get played they get played, if they get rescheduled then they get rescheduled.
I think it's important for everyone to be level headed in situations like these.
I'm sure the kids really want to play, but safety is what is most important in times like these.
The best thing everyone can do is sit tight and pay attention to the weather and listen to 107.9 the Bull and 840 KTIC for the latest closings and cancellations information.
