Winnebago Boys lose to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, beat Emerson-Hubbard; Girls beat both
The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team lost 74-64 at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night before winning 80-30 at home over Emerson-Hubbard Tuesday night.
The Indians led the Bears 20-18 at the end of one. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored Winnebago 21-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-31 lead into the locker room.
The Bears won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to extend their lead to 54-43 at the end of three.
The Indians won the 4th quarter 21-20.
Winnebago jumped on the Pirates 20-6 after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 16-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-11 lead into the locker room.
The Indians outscored the Pirates 33-14 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 69-25 at the end of three.
Winnebago won the 4th quarter 11-5.
Tough loss for the Indians on Friday, but a nice job bouncing back on Tuesday.
Winnebago (4-7) is scheduled to take on Wynot (5-8) on the road Friday night.
The Blue Devils won 48-23 at Niobrara/Verdigre Tuesday night.
Of course this game very well might not get played due to the impending weather, but the Indians still have to be ready in case the contest gets played.
It would really help Winnebago to get this game in too with Ponca and BRLD coming up in the next couple of weeks.
It's good the Indians played Tuesday, but I feel another game would help Winnebago heading into Tuesday's game with Ponca.
The Indians have been kind of up and down this season, but I feel a win over Wynot would give them a confidence boost heading into the next two games.
Winnebago may very well not beat Ponca or BRLD either way, but a couple of wins in a row gives them a better chance I feel.
It's tough sitting and hanging around and not knowing if you're going to play or not, but the kids have to do their best to stay focused and think like they're going to play.
The game could very well get postponed due to the impending weather, and if that's the case the kids should enjoy some inside time.
Unfortunately, mother nature rears her ugly head on games sometimes, but it is just life.
Hopefully it doesn't get as bad as they're saying and the Indians get to play on Friday, but no one can control the weather.
Winnebago has to be ready to go in case they do play and not think they're not going to because if they do then having that mindset that they weren't going to play may lead to an off game or something.
We'll see what happens for sure, but the Indians have to be ready for anything and must be prepared one way or another.
There's no Saturday game for Winnebago this weekend so if the Indians don't play on Friday then they'll go into the Ponca game having not played a game for a week.
That won't necessarily be a bad thing, but I'm tellin ya....these kids want to play.
The Winnebago Girls won 55-50 at home over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night and 91-12 at home over Emerson-Hubbard Tuesday night.
The Indians went up 19-8 on the Bears at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 31-19 lead into the locker room.
Winnebago doubled up Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 43-25 at the end of three.
The Bears outscored the Indians 25-12 in the 4th quarter.
Jayla Price led the way with 23 points while Keisha Snyder totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds. Natasha Deal added 7 points.
Winnebago jumped out to a 35-2 lead on the Pirates after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 22-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 57-4 lead into the locker room.
The Indians outscored the Pirates 17-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 74-9 at the end of three.
Winnebago outscored Emerson-Hubbard 17-3 in the 4th quarter.
Price finished with 29 points while Deal had 24 points and 7 rebounds. Snyder chipped in 12 points while Miyayiah Loera added 11.
Two big wins for the Indians.
Winnebago (8-4) is scheduled to play Wynot (11-2) on the road Friday night.
The Blue Devils knocked off Niobrara/Verdigre 58-30 on the road Tuesday night.
Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
What a big opportunity this would be for the Indians though.
A chance to play and beat a top team on the road, a team that is always down at the State Tournament and winning State Championships.
These next three games against Wynot, Ponca, and BRLD will really challenge Winnebago for sure.
We'll see just how for real the Indians are and what they are made of.
Winnebago is without the services of Maddy Cleveland, but it seems like other girls have stepped up and filled the void.
The Indians are a good, solid team, and people should take notice if they haven't already.
I know Winnebago has lost a couple of games big, but the Indians should not be taken lightly.
Winnebago is kind of this under the radar team that can get you if you're not ready.
I feel like teams might be underestimating the Indians a bit, especially with the loss of Cleveland.
I think if a team isn't ready to play Winnebago though then they could very well get beat.
Everyone playing the Indians needs to be ready to go from the get go and has to play a complete game.
I feel like Winnebago is a serious Lewis and Clark Conference and postseason threat right now.
We'll know a little more about the Indians in their next few games, but I feel Winnebago is legit and the real deal.
I think playing Wynot could either help or hurt Winnebago heading into the Ponca game so I'm kind of thinking a postponement could possibly be a blessing in disguise.
We will have to wait and see and find out what happens though as none of us can control mother nature.
