UPDATE:
Both games have been postponed
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team fell 85-14 to Siouxland Christian, IA at the CNOS Classic in Sioux City last Thursday before losing 80-30 at Winnebago Tuesday night.
The Eagles led 19-10 at the end of one, and outscored the Pirates 29-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 48-12 lead into the locker room.
Siouxland Christian shutout Emerson-Hubbard 18-0 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 66-12 at the end of three.
The Eagles outscored the Pirates 19-2 in the 4th quarter.
Winnebago jumped on the Pirates 20-6 after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 16-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-11 lead into the locker room.
The Indians outscored the Pirates 33-14 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 69-25 at the end of three.
Winnebago won the 4th quarter 11-5.
Nolan Belt had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds for Emerson-Hubbard.
Two very difficult losses for the Pirates.
Emerson-Hubbard (2-8) is scheduled to host Osmond (11-0) Friday night.
The Tigers won 68-36 at Neligh/Oakdale Tuesday night.
Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
A good chunk of the remaining portion of the schedule is lighter than the schedule has been for the Pirates so far.
So I'm sure Emerson-Hubbard wants to play this game, but at the same time they may not mind if it gets postponed.
The Pirates need some time to hit the reset button and get a redo on the season.
I'm not sure this is what anyone had in mind for Emerson-Hubbard this year.
The Pirates have struggled a lot, and it surprises me.
I thought Emerson-Hubbard would be a lot better this year than they have been so far, especially given how they did last year.
There's still time for the Pirates to make a run and get things turned around, but it needs to happen soon.
The season is already a month and-a-half old, and Emerson-Hubbard has just two wins through 8 games.
I'm sure Emerson-Hubbard was thinking they'd be something like 8-2 or 7-3 at this point in the season when the year started.
The Pirates' struggles are mind boggling to me.
It is what it is though, and all Emerson-Hubbard can do is try and turnaround their season and play better basketball.
The Pirates have struggled to both score and slow people down, and that has been a problem.
Emerson-Hubbard has had their fair share of blowouts this year so perhaps the Pirates can start dishing some blowouts out of their own here in the second half of the season.
Perhaps a postponement wouldn't be the worst thing as it would give Emerson-Hubbard some time to sit back and reflect on things.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls lost 63-6 to Siouxland Christian, IA on Saturday and fell 91-12 at Winnebago Tuesday night.
The Eagles got out to a 25-4 lead on the Pirates after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 26-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 51-6 lead into the locker room.
Siouxland Christian blanked the Pirates 6-0 in the 3rd quarter to lead 57-6 at the end of three, and shutout Emerson-Hubbard 6-0 in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.
Winnebago jumped out to a 35-2 lead on the Pirates after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 22-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 57-4 lead into the locker room.
The Indians outscored the Pirates 17-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 74-9 at the end of three.
Winnebago outscored Emerson-Hubbard 17-3 in the 4th quarter.
Addison Mackling had a team-high 8 points.
Two really tough games for the Pirates.
Emerson-Hubbard (1-10) is scheduled to host Osmond (5-6) Friday night.
The Tigers lost 45-39 at Neligh/Oakdale Tuesday night.
Of course the game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
The schedule is pretty tough up until the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament so I'm sure the Pirates would like to play and keep plugging away and fighting.
As a competitor you always want to play if possible, and so hopefully Emerson-Hubbard and Osmond get to play.
The Pirates have really struggled this year due to low numbers and inexperience.
It's not for a lack of effort or trying though.
These girls are playing with a lot of heart and pride I am sure, and giving it their all night in and night out.
Emerson-Hubbard is just at a disadvantage in Girls sports right now, and could use a Co-op in the near future, in my opinion.
Unfortunately, the Allen and Wakefield Co-op won't be happening now so the Pirates might just have to continue on their own for a while.
Boys sports are okay on their own, but I really think Emerson-Hubbard Girls sports could really use a partner.
There's really no one that the Pirates can go with right now, maybe Allen?
Emerson-Hubbard already tried going with Pender and Allen, but that didn't work.
Hopefully the Pirates can get something figured out because it has been a struggle for Emerson-Hubbard this year.
Mackling is a very good player for the team, and she is a senior, so it will be interesting to see who comes in next year.
I feel bad for the Pirates because it has been a tough year, but all Emerson-Hubbard can do is continue to fight and give it their all and do everything in their power to win while also playing with tons of school pride.
