Winnebago Boys and Girls split with Wynot and BRLD
Update: The boys game has been cancelled due to illness from Pender. No Basketball on the Bull tonight.
The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team won 61-57 at Wynot Friday night before losing 70-43 at BRLD Tuesday night.
The game with the Wolverines was tied at 14 at the end of one. The Indians won the 2nd quarter 12-7 to take a 26-21 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines outscored the Indians 23-4 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to go up 44-30 at the end of three.
BRLD doubled up Winnebago 26-13 in the 4th quarter.
The Indians did real well in the first half against the Wolverines.
Winnebago (5-9) plays host to Pender (4-15) Thursday night in action that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Pendragons lost 53-49 at Emerson-Hubbard Tuesday night.
The same Pirate team that lost by 50 to the Indians.
I think this game could be close and entertaining or it could be a blowout.
Last year's game was a barn burner so we'll see how this year's game goes.
Pender has really been struggling in the second half of the season as they are just 1-8 in their last 9 games.
Winnebago is just 2-5 in their last 7 so something has to give in this one for both teams.
If I had to guess as to who is going to win I would say the Indians are going to come out top.
Reasons being Winnebago is at home and their style of play is difficult to contend and deal with.
It will be really exciting to have Winnebago Basketball from Winnebago on the Bull.
We've covered the Indians at State and in the postseason in the past, but I'm not sure if we've ever done a game at Winnebago.
Well that all changes Thursday night as we'll be covering the Indians and Pendragons in Winnebago.
We did the games at Oakland-Craig in the regular season a couple of years back as well.
It should be a special and exciting night of basketball on the Bull for sure.
I hope you can tune in and listen to us bring you all the action on 107.9 the Bull.
The Indians have to get out and run and try and run Pender out of the gym.
Wisner-Pilger ran the Pendragons out of the gym Thursday night, and I'm sure Winnebago will look to do the same.
And it will happen too if the Indians have it their way.
I'm hoping it is a good, competitive, and close game though.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on the Bull.
The Winnebago Girls lost 58-47 at Wynot Friday night before upsetting BRLD 71-70 on the road Tuesday night.
The Indians led the Blue Devils 10-7 at the end of one. Wynot outscored Winnebago 24-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 31-19 lead into the locker room.
The Blue Devils won the 3rd quarter 16-12 to up their edge to 47-31 at the end of three.
The Indians won the 4th quarter 16-11.
Keisha Snyder had 21 points and 16 rebounds, good enough for a double-double.
Winnebago led the Wolverines 21-20 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-14 to take a 36-34 lead into the locker room.
BRLD outscored the Indians 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 51-44 at the end of three.
Winnebago outscored the Wolverines 27-19 in the 4th quarter.
Snyder had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds while Jayla Price totaled 18 points. Maddy Cleveland added 15 while Tia YellowThunder notched 11. Natasha Deal posted 8 rebounds.
I bet the Indians are glad to have Cleveland back. What a win for Winnebago over BRLD.
The Indians (9-6) host Pender (12-7) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Pendragons won 59-13 at Emerson-Hubbard Tuesday night.
Winnebago beat the Pirates 91-12 at home a couple of weeks ago.
Pender is playing really good basketball right now, but the Indians' win over the Wolverines was something else.
That might be one of the biggest wins if not the biggest win in program history.
Winnebago has to keep it going on Thursday too.
The Pendragons are tough and feature Ashley Ostrand, Zoey Lehmkuhl, and others.
I think the Indians' offense and their scorers could be too much for Pender though.
I feel like Winnebago is a little more athletic and polished offensively.
The Pendragons are probably better defensively, but I feel the Indians' offense could very well get them over the top.
Without Cleveland I think Pender would have a better chance of winning.
But with Cleveland back for Winnebago I just feel the Indians could very well be too tough.
The Pendragons have played a lot of games lately too and you have to wonder how much Pender is going to have in the tank come Thursday night.
The Pendragons should have something extra for Winnebago I would think, but also might be saving themselves for the East Husker Conference Tournament.
Speaking of Conference Tournaments...Winnebago hosts Emerson-Hubbard in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Saturday.
I think the Indians can make a run in that tournament and do some damage.
Winnebago is clicking on all cylinders right now and peaking at the right time at the end of the season.
I feel the Indians are going to be a dangerous team from here on out that nobody wants to face or play.
Thursday night's game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
