Clarkson/Leigh Boys beat Pender; Girls lose
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team won 60-41 at home over Pender Tuesday night.
The Patriots led 12-5 at the end of one before the Pendragons won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to make it an 18-12 game at halftime.
Clarkson/Leigh outscored Pender 21-13 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 39-25 at the end of three.
The Patriots won the 4th quarter 21-16.
Carter Hanel had a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds while Eli Hays and Lance Paprocki notched 17 and 11 points, respectively.
Great win for Clarkson/Leigh.
The Patriots (5-7) are scheduled to host Twin River (10-5) Thursday night.
The Titans won 44-37 at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.
Twin River has won five out of their last six.
So the Titans are playing well right now, but so is Clarkson/Leigh.
I would say both teams are playing their best basketball of the season right now.
Both teams lost to David City Aquinas by 2 so this should be a dandy of a ball game.
Hanel has been a beast on the boards and offensively lately as he is our Animal of the Week.
He needs to continue his hot play as does Hays and Paprocki.
This is a Patriot team that continues to play better and play good basketball.
I think it is safe to say that Clarkson/Leigh has improved as the season has gone on.
The Patriots are a much stronger team now than they were at the beginning of the season, in my opinion.
It should be fun to see how Clarkson/Leigh does here as we get into the later stages of the season.
The Patriots are scheduled to play this game on Thursday and then Lutheran High Northeast on Friday and Wisner-Pilger on Tuesday so some challenging games leading up to the East Husker Conference Tournament for sure.
It's some more opportunities for Clarkson/Leigh to succeed and do well though, kind of like they have been doing for much of this season.
The Patriots have to continue to improve and get better, and step up their play over these next three games assuming they get them in.
Clarkson/Leigh is a team to be reckoned with right now, in my opinion, and I'm not sure anyone wants to play them at the moment.
It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few games, and if the Patriots can continue this wave of momentum heading into the East Husker Conference Tournament, which begins next Saturday, February 1st.
The Clarkson/Leigh Girls saw Pender erase a 19-point Patriot lead and win 49-44 over the Patriots in Clarkson Tuesday night.
Clarkson/Leigh led 18-5 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to take a 29-14 lead into the locker room.
The Pendragons tripled up the Patriots 15-5 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 34-29 game at the end of three.
Pender doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 20-10 in the 4th quarter.
Kayden Schumacher had 12 points while Kennedy Settje notched 11, and Ashlynn Novotny 10.
Tough loss and hard pill to swallow for the Patriots, who had won 8 in a row prior to the loss.
Clarkson/Leigh (10-4) looks to rebound Thursday night in a scheduled home game against Twin River (3-12).
The Titans won 45-44 at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.
A couple of days ago I would of said this would be an easy win for the Patriots.
But given Tuesday night's games I think things could be closer than many anticipated.
Twin River has competed well in the second half of the season, and is much improved from the first half of the season.
I still think the Patriots will win, but Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and play a strong and good game.
The Patriots have to erase Tuesday night's loss from their memory and get ready for a scrappy and feisty Titans' squad.
I fully expect Twin River to give Clarkson/Leigh all they got.
Of course it kind of depends on the weather whether this game gets played or not, but we will see what happens.
The Patriots have to be ready to go if the game is indeed on though.
Sometimes it's hard to rebound from a tough loss, especially after having 10 days off.
I think the long layoff with the weather delays and such really hurt Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.
And that's not an excuse as to why the Patriots lost either, it's just simply stating an opinion and observation.
Clarkson/Leigh has to rejuvenate themselves and have that drive and determination to succeed.
I'm willing to bet the Patriots are a bit shell shocked right now so it will be interesting to see how Clarkson/Leigh responds Thursday night if they play.
The Patriots are also scheduled to play at Lutheran High Northeast Friday night and at home against Wisner-Pilger on Tuesday so we'll see if all three of these games get played prior to the start of the East Husker Conference Tournament next Friday or not.
If they do I feel like Clarkson/Leigh has a good shot to win each and every one of them.
