Clarkson/Leigh Boys beat Tekamah-Herman; Girls down East Butler and Tekamah-Herman

UPDATE:

Both games have been postponed

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team used a 10-0 run at the beginning of their game with Tekamah-Herman on Saturday en route to a 78-48 win over the Tigers at home in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

In the 1st quarter, Tekamah-Herman eventually pulled within 4 at 12-8 before Clarkson/Leigh went up 16-8.

The Patriots wound up leading 26-13 at the end of one and 46-23 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 17-12 to go up 63-35 at the end of three.

The Patriots put up 15 points in the 4th quarter compared to Tekamah-Herman's 13.

Jarred Novotny had a game-high 21 points for Clarkson/Leigh while Carter Hanel notched 16 points and 17 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Eli Hays totaled 15 points while Lance Paprocki registered 10.

What a great game played by Clarkson/Leigh.

The Patriots (4-7) are scheduled to battle Humphrey St. Francis (11-0) on the road Friday night.

The Flyers lost 74-48 at Burwell on Saturday.

St. Francis also beat Howells-Dodge 75-58 at home Friday night.

Clarkson/Leigh played the Jaguars tough, and I feel like the Patriots are a better team than their record would indicate.

I was impressed with Clarkson/Leigh on Saturday, and thought the Patriots played very well.

I think the Patriots can challenge the Flyers, and perhaps put a scare into them at least.

Clarkson/Leigh plays a tough schedule, and has gotten better as the season has gone on.

I feel like the Patriots are playing their best basketball of the season right now.

Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.

Clarkson/Leigh is also scheduled to host Pender on Saturday so we will see what happens and if any games get played.

It's always tough having to deal with mother nature and what all she brings, but the Patriots have to adapt and adjust to whatever happens and takes place.

None of us can control what the weather does, all we can do is adhere to and heed it.

I'm sure Clarkson/Leigh is chomping at the bit and really wants to get out there and play.

As a competitor, you always want to play games and not have them get postponed.

Mother nature will do what she does though, and so we'll see if the two teams get to play or not.

The Flyers are a great team, and the Patriots will need to play an amazing game to come out on top if the two teams play.

The Pendragons can't be taken lightly or for granted either so Clarkson/Leigh would need to continue their great play against Pender as well.

Of course this talk is all dependent on the weather and what mother nature decides to do.

We will simply have to wait and see what happens.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls won 63-41 at East Butler Friday night and downed Tekamah-Herman 57-30 at home on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Patriots led East Butler 24-9 after one. The Tigers doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 12-6 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 30-21 game at halftime.

The Patriots outscored East Butler 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 46-27 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 17-14.

Cassidy Hoffman had 18 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Alissa Kasik and Faith Indra each notched 10 points while Kennedy Settje totaled 9 points. Ashlynn Novotny posted 9 rebounds.

Tekamah-Herman led 3-2 before the Patriots went on a 10-0 run to go up 12-3 in the 1st quarter.

Clarkson/Leigh led 15-5 at the end of one and 29-11 at halftime.

The Patriots added to their lead in the second half, outscoring Tekamah-Herman 14-6 in the 3rd quarter.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 14-13.

Head Coach Matt Murren says a strong start was vital. "We got after it defensively. Our transition offense was very good. When we came out we talked about the first quarter was very important. And we came out we kind of set the tone there early. I think it was 15-5 at the end of one and that was important for us to get us going."

Novotny had 13 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Patriots, 11 points coming in the 1st half, including 9 all on three pointers in the 2nd quarter, while Settje notched a dozen. Kim Stodola added 8 while Kayden Schumacher chipped in 7 points and 8 rebounds.

"Yeah Ashlynn Novotny had a really, really nice game tonight. She really did a great job of controlling the pace of the game. I'm not quite sure how many assists she had, but she did a great job finding that. It was great to see her get in rhythm. And when she's in rhythm she's a great shooter, and able to score 13 points there. Kennedy Settje had another good game. Her and Ashlynn they've worked together really well. And she knocked down some shots. And it was great to see Kayden Schumacher there in the 3rd quarter. I think she scored 5 straight points there at one time, and it was good for her to get going. And she played a really nice game as well." Murren said.

The Patriots, who have won 8 straight, are scheduled to battle Humphrey St. Francis (10-2) on the road Friday night.

The Flyers won 68-40 at Burwell on Saturday.

St. Francis also beat Howells-Dodge 66-35 at home Friday night.

Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.

Clarkson/Leigh is rolling right now, and would love to play both games this weekend I am sure.

The Patriots are also scheduled to host Pender on Saturday, and it would be too bad if Clarkson/Leigh didn't get at least one game in.

It simply depends on mother nature and how bad or not bad she is though.

We will have to wait and see what happens.

I really think the Patriots could challenge and beat the Flyers though.

After all, Clarkson/Leigh defeated St. Francis last year.

Unfortunately, none of us can control mother nature and what she does or does not do though.

The most important thing during something like this is safety.

A basketball game, or any sporting event for that matter, can wait during bad weather.

You don't want people, especially kids, out on the road risking their lives just to get to a game.

I'm sure a decision will be made with safety in mind and what is best for both teams and all three schools.

It could be better in some areas than others so some games could get played and others might not.

Again, it just depends on mother nature and where all she decides to dump snow and ice on and how much.

It may not be that bad near Columbus, but it could be pretty bad the further north you go.

It's just really hard saying and telling right now.

We will all probably know more come Friday morning.
