Stanton Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 2-1
UPDATE:
Both games have been postponed
The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 61-26 at Oakland-Craig Friday night before falling 48-31 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday. The Mustangs then won 55-54 in double overtime at home over Plainview Tuesday night.
The Knights went up 17-9 at the end of one, and quadrupled up Stanton 20-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-14 lead into the locker room.
Oakland-Craig outscored the Mustangs 11-2 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 48-16 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 13-10.
The Raiders got out to a 9-7 lead after one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-6 to take a 20-13 lead into the locker room.
LVSS outscored Stanton 12-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 32-20 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 16-11.
TJ Larson had 12 points while Parker Krusemark scored 7.
The Pirates got out to a 14-6 lead at the end of one. The Mustangs won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to make it a 25-19 game at halftime.
Stanton won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to narrow the deficit to 5 at 36-31 at the end of three.
The Mustangs doubled up Plainview 10-5 in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 41 and force OT.
After both teams scored 7 points in the first OT, Stanton outlasted Plainview 7-6 in the second OT.
Larson registered 26 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Mason Bruggeman added 14 points and 9 rebounds while Krusemark posted 13 points.
What a way for the Mustangs to battle and win Tuesday night.
Stanton (2-12) is scheduled to take on Boone Central/Newman Grove (3-9) on the road Friday night.
The Cardinals lost 57-49 at home to Wayne on Saturday.
BC/NG has played a really tough schedule and been blown out a number of times.
I think it honestly depends on which Cardinal team the Mustangs get.
Of course this game is weather permitting due to the impending weather.
The game very well may not get played.
Hopefully it does, but if it doesn't then there's nothing that can be done about it except to reschedule.
Stanton has a couple chances at wins these next two games though so I'm sure the Mustangs would really like to get the games in.
I think they could, but a postponement is a definite possibility as well.
It all depends on what Mother Nature does.
I feel it would be good for Stanton to play from the standpoint of you just won a game and want to continue the momentum.
The Mustangs fought hard for Tuesday's win, and playing Friday would be good for them, in my opinion.
But the most important thing to remember in this situation is safety.
Safety is the most important thing when it snows and there is ice.
It might not be worth risking the drive to Albion or Newman Grove if the roads are bad.
Of course if there is no game there won't be any reason to travel as the best thing during bad weather is to simply stay home.
So hopefully the game gets played, but if not then I'm sure the game would get rescheduled.
We may know more by the morning as it is supposed to snow and ice then.
And if school is called off, then the game may very well not get played for that reason.
The Stanton Girls fell 61-13 at Oakland-Craig Friday night before winning 54-49 at home over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday, and 48-25 at home over Plainview Tuesday night.
The Knights led 16-2 after one, and outscored the Mustangs 31-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 47-6 lead into the locker room.
Oakland-Craig won the 3rd quarter 7-4 to extend their lead to 54-10 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 7-3.
The Mustangs led the Raiders 22-17 after one. LVSS won the 2nd quarter 3-2 to make it a 24-20 game at halftime.
Stanton won the 3rd quarter 14-12 to extend their lead to 38-32 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 17-16.
Emma Hansen had 22 points while Kinley Pohlman notched 10. Savannah Siebrandt added 7 while Sylvia Cunningham notched 7 rebounds.
The Mustangs got out to a 13-9 lead on the Pirates in the 1st quarter, and outscored Plainview 13-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-13 lead into the locker room.
Stanton won the 3rd quarter 10-4 to go up 36-17 at the end of three.
The Mustangs won the 4th quarter 12-8.
Hansen had 20 points while Pohlman chipped in 8. Cunningham registered 13 rebounds.
Good play by Stanton on Saturday and Tuesday.
The Mustangs (4-10) are scheduled to take on Boone Central/Newman Grove (6-6) on the road Friday night.
The Cardinals won 53-36 at home over Wayne on Saturday.
That win snapped a five-game losing streak for BC/NG.
The Cardinals have played a tough schedule and are a good team that is better than their record would indicate.
Of course this game is weather permitting as it depends on what the weather does whether this game gets played or not.
Stanton has a chance for some wins coming up and would just assume play this game if it's possible.
I'm sure the Mustangs really want to play, but we'll see if Mother Nature allows it or not.
The game is very much in limbo right now, and we will see what becomes of the contest, and if it is played or postponed/cancelled.
It simply depends on how much snow and ice the area gets and how the roads are.
The game could very well get postponed, and if it does perhaps the game would be made up on Monday.
We'll see what happens, but you want to get in the game if possible.
Safety is the most important thing and top priority with any of this though.
The best thing to do during bad weather is stay home.
There's no use risking lives if the weather is bad and roads are undriveable.
It very well could be a situation where it's best not to risk it and simply stay home and be safe.
It depends largely on if there is school for either Stanton or Boone Central and Newman Grove as well because if school is called off then the chance for the games to be called off increases.
I'm sure the kids are chomping at the bit to get out there and play, but Mother Nature may have other plans and ideas.
What that could entail remains to be seen though.
