The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 44-41 to West Holt in their own Holiday Tournament on Friday, December 27th before losing 67-44 to Hartington/Newcastle in Saturday, December 28th's Consolation Game. The Mustangs also lost 54-25 at home to Wisner-Pilger Friday night and 57-32 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday.
The Huskies jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the end of one. The Mustangs outscored West Holt 14-6 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 19-18 game at halftime in favor of the Huskies.
Both teams scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter, and the Huskies led 29-28 after three.
West Holt won the 4th quarter 15-13.
TJ Larson had 15 points while Parker Krusemark notched 9. Mason Bruggeman added 7.
The Wildcats got out to a 17-12 lead at the end of one. Stanton won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to make it a 26-23 game at halftime.
Hartington/Newcastle outscored the Mustangs 21-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-28 at the end of three.
The Wildcats won the 4th quarter 20-16.
Adam Arens led the way with 10 points while TJ Larson and Abe Larson each recorded 7 points apiece.
The Gators tripled up the Mustangs 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Stanton 15-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-8 lead into the locker room.
Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 21-13 to go up 48-21 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 6-4.
Bruggeman had a team-high 8 points.
The Bulldogs doubled up Stanton 18-9 in the 1st quarter. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family outscored the Mustangs 15-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-16 lead into the locker room.
Stanton won the 3rd quarter 14-10 to make it a 43-30 game at the end of three.
The Bulldogs outscored the Mustangs 14-2 in the 4th quarter.
TJ Larson had 9 points while Ian Schulzkump totaled 8.
The Mustangs played the Huskies tough, but have struggled otherwise.
Stanton (1-10) takes on Oakland-Craig (10-2) on the road Friday night.
The Knights won 66-54 at home over GACC Tuesday night.
Oakland-Craig has won 10 in a row while the Mustangs have lost 9 in a row.
It's a battle of two teams who are headed in complete opposite directions.
Stanton has to keep their spirits up and keep the faith though.
The Knights are a great team, but the Mustangs have to go in there and fight hard and give it their all.
It's definitely not easy seeing where both teams currently stand, but Stanton has to fight hard and give it their all Friday night.
The Mustangs have to fight and battle, and try and go in there and win a basketball game.
Stanton has to take the frustrations of losing so much out on Oakland-Craig.
The Mustangs might be barking up a wrong tree there, but Stanton has to give it their all and battle hard Friday night.
Stanton has to find a way to get motivated too.
It would be easy to feel frustrated and defeated when looking at this matchup on paper, but the Mustangs can't be that way.
Stanton has to be positive and has to go into Oakland and battle and give their best effort Friday night.
The Mustangs have to work on improving and getting better throughout the course of the game, and must use the game as a learning experience for the kids.
Stanton has a tough weekend ahead of them, but the Mustangs have to be mentally and physically prepared and ready to go.
Stanton has to be hungry and has to want to do well and win.
The Mustangs also need to expect do well and be successful, however that is measured.
Stanton has to keep at it and must stick to things and persevere and get through these tough times.
The Stanton Girls picked up their first win of the year on Friday, December 27th at their own Holiday Tournament, winning 36-29 over West Holt. The Mustangs then lost 54-39 to O'Neill in Friday, December 28th's Holiday Tournament Championship Game before winning 41-38 at home over Wisner-Pilger Friday night, and then losing 70-27 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday.

Savannah Siebrandt had 11 points for the Mustangs while Sylvia Cunningham notched 13 rebounds and Kinley Pohlman added 9.
The Eagles got out to a 10-8 lead after one. Stanton won the 2nd quarter 11-10 to make it a 20-19 game at halftime.
O'Neill outscored the Mustangs 26-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 46-26 at the end of three.
Stanton won the 4th quarter 13-8.
Emma Hansen had 9 points while Cunningham and Pohlman posted 8 apiece.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-2 lead on the Gators at the end of one. The Gators won the 2nd quarter 12-11, but Stanton still led 24-14 at halftime.
Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 9-7 to go up 33-21 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 15-10.
Hansen led the way with 18 points.
The Bulldogs led 16-6 after one, and outscored the Mustangs 20-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-13 lead into the locker room.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family outscored Stanton 22-12 in the 3rd quarter to go up 58-25 at the end of three.
The Bulldogs outscored the Mustangs 12-2 in the 4th quarter.
Good games from Stanton really outside of the loss to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The Mustangs (2-9) travel to Oakland to battle Oakland-Craig (11-0) Friday night.
The Knights waxed Omaha Nation 78-24 on the road Friday night.
Oakland-Craig is the complete team.
Stanton has come on lately though, and has to come into this game confident and ready to go.
The loss to the Bulldogs had to be a bit dampening to the Mustangs' spirits, but Stanton should feel good about what they did the three games prior.
The Mustangs have to come into this game believing that they can win and get the job done.
The Knights are obviously a very good team, but Stanton has shown some life and come on a bit lately.
Stanton has to keep it up and keep up the good fight.
The Mustangs need to keep getting scoring contributions from Hansen, Siebrandt, Pohlman, and Cunningham.
If Stanton can get those four going all at the same time that could propel them to even bigger and better things I feel.
Just picking up a couple of wins has to feel awfully good though.
The Mustangs have to be happy about getting the monkey off their back, but have to want more.
Stanton has to remain hungry and must keep the eye on the prize and pedal to the metal.
And that is the Mustangs need to keep improving and getting better and focus on growing together and with each other.
Stanton has to continue to grow as athletes and students and as people.
The Mustangs have shown a lot of resolve and character so far this year, and should be proud of their efforts.
Stanton has to keep it up and has to keep persevering.
I feel like the Mustangs are getting better even though the setback to the Bulldogs was a tough one.
I look for Stanton to play well in both games this weekend, and perhaps win on Saturday against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
