GACC Boys beat Pender; Girls down Bishop Neumann
UPDATE: The game vs. Wayne has been postponed and rescheduled for next Monday the 27th.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team defeated Pender 64-41 on the road Thursday night.
The Bluejays led the Pendragons 15-14 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to take a 28-25 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored Pender 17-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 45-28 at the end of three.
The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 19-13.
Cody Steffen had 14 points while Adam Reeson and Nate Niewohner each posted 11. Reese Schlecht added 10.
Nice win for GACC.
The Bluejays (6-4) are scheduled to host Wayne (9-5) Friday night, weather permitting.
The Blue Devils won 53-35 at home over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Tuesday night.
GACC has to be ready to rock and roll as if they're going to play.
The Bluejays are also scheduled to host Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday so a big weekend ahead for GACC.
Hopefully the Bluejays get to play both games this weekend.
Having to reschedule games and not play due to mother nature is no fun, but unfortunately it happens during the winter.
GACC has to be ready for anything, but has to stay mentally sharp and focused and ready to play in case they do.
The Bluejays have to practice as normal and get ready for Wayne as if they are going to play the game on Friday.
If they don't, hopefully Saturday's game gets played.
GACC wouldn't be back in action until Tuesday at home against Battle Creek if both games are postponed, and I'm willing to bet the Bluejays don't want to go nearly two weeks without playing, especially against the Braves.
Ultimately though no one can control mother nature, and the weather will do what it is supposed to do.
The thing for GACC is to stay fresh and in game shape by having good practices.
The Bluejays have to do some fun things in practice to stay loose and get ready for this weekend assuming one or both games are played.
GACC has to be ready to take it to both teams this weekend, and go out there and play extremely hard and well.
The Bluejays have to prepare themselves to face a tough Blue Devil team that is on a roll right now.
If the two teams do in fact meet on Friday it should be a good game as both teams are playing exceptional basketball right now.
GACC is a much improved team, and I'm excited and anxious to see how they do this weekend if indeed they play.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team won 63-40 at Wahoo Neumann Tuesday night.
The Bluejays tripled up the Cavaliers 18-6 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Neumann 18-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-18 lead into the locker room.
The Cavaliers won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to make it a 47-30 game at the end of three.
GACC won the 4th quarter 16-10.
Sophia Hass had a near triple-double of 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists. Brenna Rief added 16 points while Brandi Doernemann notched 15 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
Heck of a win for the Bluejays.
GACC (10-2) faces Fremont Bergan (7-4) on the road Thursday night.
Bergan won 48-40 over Arlington on Saturday.
The defending D-1 champs are tough, but I think the Bluejays will find a way to beat them.
Bergan is solid, but GACC is really good and elite, in my opinion.
West Point-Beemer is also a very good team, and beat the Knights by 13 at home.
The game being in Fremont should help Bergan some, but I still think the Bluejays will find a way to win.
I'd say an 8 or a 9 point win is possible for GACC if not a bigger margin.
The Bluejays have to stay hot as they have won 3 in a row and 8 out of their last 9.
GACC is also scheduled to host Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday, but the Bluejays have to solely focus on and worry about Bergan first.
The Knights are the type of team you really have to focus on and be ready to play against when you play them.
Bergan is definitely not the type of team to take lightly or for granted that is for sure.
The Knights are a power just like GACC.
This is a big game for the Bluejays, and GACC has to come out and play great and exceptional basketball Thursday night.
The Bluejays have to play their game and execute the game plan, and come out and play pressure defense and get in transition offensively.
GACC has to look to run at every opportunity and must find open shots inside and from the perimeter.
The Bluejays also have to attack the basket and get to the free throw line as well as stop dribble penetration and contest shots.
GACC has to go into Fremont and find a way to beat Bergan.
It doesn't matter how it happens, just as long as the Bluejays win.
