Wisner-Pilger Boys go 1-1 in Shootout on the Elkhorn, beat Stanton; Girls fare same at Holiday Tourney, lose to Mustangs

The Wisner-Pilger Boys defeated Pierce 48-41 at home last Monday night in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament in Wisner before falling 62-49 to Ponca on Day Two of the Tournament on Tuesday. The Gators also won 54-25 at Stanton Friday night.

The Gators led the Bluejays 15-9 after one before Pierce won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to make it a 24-20 game at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger outscored Pierce 11-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 35-25 at the end of three.

The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 16-13.

The Indians led 12-9 after one before the Gators won the 2nd quarter 14-11 to tie the game at 23 at halftime.

The Gators tripled up the Mustangs 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Stanton 15-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-8 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 21-13 to go up 48-21 at the end of three.

The Gators won the 4th quarter 6-4.

Good wins for Wisner-Pilger against Ponca and Stanton.

The Gators (5-3) host Arlington (3-6) Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Eagles fell 38-35 to Hastings St. Cecilia at the Wayne Holiday Tournament last Monday.

Arlington has played a tough schedule and lost to some good teams.

Wisner-Pilger is another one of those teams though, and I fully expect the Gators to come out and perform well Tuesday night.

Wisner-Pilger had a bit of a hiccup against Ponca, but I have no doubts that the Gators have put that loss and game behind them.

Wisner-Pilger was dominant over their rival Friday night, and I look for the Gators to do well once again Tuesday night.

I think Wisner-Pilger will win this one by double digits at the very least, possibly by even like 15-20 points.

The Gators have a favorable week ahead of them and then it gets tough.

Wisner-Pilger has some tough games on the schedule in the second half of the season, but I look for the Gators to step up and perform well.

We will truly see and find out what Wisner-Pilger is made of come this second half of the season though.

I feel like the Gators have some nice wins and have done some nice things, but haven't been consistent throughout the entire season yet.

I feel like Wisner-Pilger has a chance to become a consistent team that knocks of good teams night in and night out.

Every team goes through struggles, but I feel like becoming consistently good could make all the difference for the Gators.

I'm excited to see how the rest of this year's schedule treats Wisner-Pilger, and how they fare and do.

I feel like the Gators have a chance to be a team that is right there in the end, but we will see what happens.

Wisner-Pilger has to keep working hard and must keep their eye on the prize and must stay focused at all times throughout the rest of the season.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the Bull.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls picked up their first win of the year at home over Lutheran High Northeast in the Shootout on the Elkhorn last Monday, winning 45-36. The Gators also lost 50-29 to Pierce in the Shootout on Tuesday before losing a close one 41-38 at Stanton Friday night.

The Gators led the Eagles 11-7 after one. LHNE won the 2nd quarter 15-10 to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 10-8 to go up 31-30 at the end of three.

The Gators outscored the Eagles 14-6 in the 4th quarter.

The Bluejays got out to a 21-9 lead at the end of one before outscoring Wisner-Pilger 12-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-14 into the locker room.

Pierce won the 3rd quarter 8-7 to go up 41-21 at the end of three.

The Bluejays also won the 4th quarter 9-8.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-2 lead at the end of one. The Gators won the 2nd quarter 12-11, but Stanton still led 24-14 at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 9-7 make it a 31-23 game at the end of three.

The Gators won the 4th quarter 15-10.

The first quarter did Wisner-Pilger in against the Mustangs.

The Gators (1-7) host Arlington (6-4) Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Eagles lost 52-39 to Pender at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne last Monday.

Arlington has lost a couple in a row so it will be interesting to see what kind of momentum the Eagles have coming into this one.

I feel like Arlington could struggle in this one, and the game could be closer than what some might think it will be.

I feel like the Eagles have been off the last couple of games whereas the Gators are coming around a little bit.

Wisner-Pilger still has a lot of work to do to get to where they want, but I feel like the Gators have a chance to make this game interesting.

If this game is in the 30's then I think Wisner-Pilger has a legit shot to win it.

I feel like the Gators' offense has been better their last few games.

Wisner-Pilger still has a long ways to go, but I feel like the Gators are slowly but surely getting there and making strides.

A win over Arlington would be big.

Wisner-Pilger has to come out and play to win though as opposed to not to lose.

The Gators have to come out and expect do play and do well.

Wisner-Pilger also has Madison and West Point-Beemer this week, and I look for the Gators to beat the Dragons and at least hang with the Cadets.

Wisner-Pilger has to be about more than moral victories though.

Coming close to beating Arlington, coming close to beating West Point-Beemer is just not going to get the job done in the long run.

Compete with and keeping things close against those teams this week might be positive, but losses aren't good regardless of what form they come in.

It has been a season of learning and growing pains for the Gators so far this year, that's for sure, but I do feel like Wisner-Pilger is getting better.

Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
