Winnebago Boys and Girls fall to Ponca

The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team lost 58-53 at home to Ponca Tuesday night.

Winnebago led Ponca 18-13 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 18-16 to take a 36-29 lead at halftime.

Ponca won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to make it a 47-41 game at the end of three.

Ponca outscored Winnebago 17-6 in the 4th quarter.

Great effort and performance from Bago, especially through three quarters. Frustrating not to finish though I'm sure.

The Indians (4-8) take on Wynot (5-9) on the road Friday night in a makeup game from last Friday.

The Blue Devils lost 42-35 at home to Allen Tuesday night.

I think it's key and important for Winnebago to focus on playing a complete game in this one.

The Indians need to put a game together for four quarters, and this is an excellent opportunity to do just that, in my opinion.

Winnebago has to get out there and run and gun and blow out Wynot.

The Indians have to leave the Blue Devils in the dust, and go out there and dominate.

Winnebago is at undefeated and defending C-2 State Champ BRLD Tuesday night so the Indians could use a win in a big way Friday night.

A win would help boost team moral and confidence I feel.

I'm sure Winnebago is very frustrated with how they lost to Ponca.

Now Winnebago has a chance to take their frustrations out on Wynot.

The Indians have to be ready for anything the Blue Devils throw at them.

Winnebago has to focus on playing a full 32 minute game.

The Indians have to play hard and must be intense for four quarters from start to finish.

Winnebago has to take the fight to Wynot and suffocate them with their pressure defense.

The Indians have to use their press to create turnovers and get easy baskets in transition.

Winnebago needs to have fun in doing so also.

The Indians have to take pride in their defense, and must also be able to knock down some big shots from the outside.

Winnebago has to rebound and block out well also.

The Indians also must contest shots, limit turnovers, take good shots, make easy lay ups, and get to and convert at the free throw line.

The Winnebago Girls fell 54-42 at home to Ponca Tuesday night.

Winnebago got out to a 14-10 lead at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to go up 27-21 at halftime.

Ponca won the 3rd quarter 10-3 to pull in front 31-30 at the end of three.

Ponca outscored Winnebago 23-12 in the 4th quarter.

Keisha Snyder had 17 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jayla Price added 11 points.

If Winnebago still had Maddy Cleveland the game probably would of been super tight.

The Indians (8-5) take on Wynot (11-2) on the road Friday night in a makeup game from last Friday.

The Blue Devils won 58-30 at Niobrara/Verdigre last Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see how this one goes.

Wynot plays Pierce Thursday night so they will have a game under their belt prior to this game happening.

Snyder and Price need to have big games for Winnebago as does Natasha Deal.

If those three have big games then lookout for the Indians.

It's too bad that Cleveland is no longer playing for the team.

That is a big loss, and really hurts Winnebago.

I still think the Indians can compete and keep things close and interesting with Wynot, but winning over the Blue Devils figures to be a very tall task for Winnebago.

Not that it can't happen though because it definitely can, but Wynot competes for State Championships year in and year out.

I think that's where the Indians want to be and are headed though.

Winnebago has made some very nice improvements from last year to this year.

I look for the Indians to only continue to grow and improve and get better as the season progresses.

Winnebago has a lot of basketball left to play although this is a challenging stretch of games for the Indians.

Winnebago also has BRLD on Tuesday and Pender next Thursday so we will find out what the Indians are made of in all three games.

Winnebago could easily be 8-8 heading into the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament or they could be 9-7 or maybe even 10-6.

Regardless of what happens over the next few games though the Indians can't let the contests define their season.

Winnebago is about more than just these next three games, but they are big contests that is for sure.
