GACC Boys beat Boone Central/Newman Grove; Girls down Fremont Bergan and Cardinals
The GACC Boys defeated Boone Central/Newman Grove 64-52 at home on Saturday.
The Bluejays led the Cardinals 18-15 after one, and outscored them 19-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-25 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored BC/NG 21-11 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-36 at the end of three.
The Cardinals won the 4th quarter 16-6.
Ben Ulrich led the way with 18 points while Nate Niewohner scored 16. Casey Doernemann added 7 points and 9 rebounds while Adam Reeson recorded 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Nice win for the Bluejays.
GACC (7-4) plays host to Battle Creek (10-2) Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Braves won 66-59 at Lutheran High Northeast Thursday night.
This game was a two-point game last year with Battle Creek winning.
Both teams return essentially the same personnel from last year.
It should be a heck of a game, and I'm looking forward to listening to it on the Bull.
I feel like the Bluejays can definitely this one.
I think this is one GACC can get.
The Bluejays have turned things around from last year in a big way.
The last two years prior to this one were rough and tough for GACC, but the Bluejays certainly appear to have things rolling this year.
The Braves have won four in a row though and appear to be the real deal.
This should be a heck of a game.
GACC has come a long ways since the beginning of the season.
I feel the Bluejays are a better team than their record indicates.
Two of GACC's losses are to BRLD and Oakland-Craig, and the other two to Wisner-Pilger and Lutheran High Northeast came early in the season when the Bluejays were still trying to figure things out.
GACC could easily have a near identical record to that of Battle Creek right now.
This could easily be a battle of two 2 loss teams had the Bluejays not dropped their first two games of the season.
I feel GACC will push the Braves and take this one down to the wire and brink.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Bluejays won either.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. on the Bull.
The GACC Girls won 54-42 at Fremont Bergan Thursday night and 43-29 at home over Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday.
The Knights led 14-13 at the end of one. Both teams scored 12 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score was 26-25 at halftime in favor of Bergan.
GACC outscored Fremont Bergan 16-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 41-36 at the end of three.
The Bluejays outscored the Knights 13-6 in the 4th quarter.
Brandi Doernemann led the way with 18 points while Sophia Hass registered 13. Brenna Rief compiled 10 while Kate Gnad chipped in 8.
GACC held a 10-9 lead on the Cardinals at the end of one. The Bluejays won the 2nd quarter 13-10 to take a 23-19 lead into the locker room.
GACC won the 3rd quarter 7-6 to go up 30-25 at the end of three.
The Bluejays outscored BC/NG 13-4 in the 4th quarter.
Rief notched 11 points while Marissa Hunke totaled 10. Gnad chipped in 8. Doernemann posted 9 rebounds.
Two very solid wins for GACC.
The Bluejays (12-2) host Battle Creek (10-4) Tuesday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Bravettes won 56-34 at Lutheran High Northeast Thursday night.
I look for GACC to win this one by about 15 points.
West Point-Beemer really did a number on Battle Creek last Tuesday, and I look for the Bluejays to do the same to the Bravettes.
I think GACC's full court press could really give Battle Creek fits.
The Bravettes really struggled offensively against the Cadets, who are a very good defensive team.
GACC is pretty strong defensively themselves, and offensively as well for that matter.
I feel like the Bluejays are a complete team.
GACC also has O'Neill at home on Friday so a couple of big home games in a row for the Bluejays.
These contests are ones GACC needs to get and win.
The Bluejays have to come out and play the way they did on Thursday and Saturday.
GACC was suffocating defensively both nights, and has to be like that again Tuesday night.
Battle Creek is a solid team with a lot of experience back from last year, and probably didn't play their best game against the Cadets.
The Bluejays won a thriller at Battle Creek last year, but I think Tuesday's game could be a little bit more Elementary for GACC.
Both Tuesday and Friday's games will be tough, and Saturday at Hartington Cedar Catholic doesn't figure to be easy either.
The Bluejays can definitely go 3-0 this week though there's no doubt about it.
GACC just has to put their minds to it and go out there and get the job done.
Tuesday's game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
I hope you are able to tune into the Bull and listen to it.
