The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 65-30 at home to BRLD on Saturday and 70-43 at home to Twin River Tuesday night.
The Wolverines got out to a 23-4 lead on the Mustangs at the end of one. BRLD outscored Stanton 16-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-11 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines outscored the Mustangs 15-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 54-18 at the end of three.
Stanton won the 4th quarter 12-11.
TJ Larson had 8 points and 10 rebounds.
The Titans doubled up the Mustangs 18-9 in the 1st quarter. Twin River outscored Stanton 21-13 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-22 lead into the locker room.
The Titans won the 3rd quarter 16-11 to increase their lead to 55-33 at the end of three.
Twin River won the 4th quarter 15-10.
Larson had 15 points while Parker Krusemark totaled 10 points and 8 rebounds. Mason Bruggeman added 9 points while Ian Schulzkump notched 7.
A couple of tough losses for Stanton, but the Mustangs did some nice things offensively against the Titans.
Stanton (3-14) takes on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (13-4) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Oakland-Craig Saturday night.
The Raiders defeated Howells-Dodge 53-32 at home Tuesday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
LVSS beat the Mustangs 48-31 in Stanton on Saturday, January 11th.
Stanton gave the Raiders a tough battle the first time around, and if the Mustangs can play the way they did on offense against Twin River and play solid defense, they may be able to pull a shocking upset.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder likes to slow things down and play a halfcourt game, which is also Stanton's MO.
It's the East Husker Conference Tournament, and anything can happen.
The Mustangs have to crank things up with it getting to be towards the end of the season.
Not much time is left in the season for Stanton to get things headed in the right direction.
The Mustangs have to do everything they can to play well and make a run in this tournament.
The Raiders are a very good team though, and beating them will be no small task whatsoever.
It is asking a lot out of Stanton too, but you play to win the game.
The Mustangs can't come into this one conceding defeat or thinking LVSS has the game won.
The Raiders routed the Jaguars the other night, and I don't think anyone saw that one coming.
So my point is you just really don't know how a particular game is going to go or turn out.
You may think or have a good idea of how things are going to go, but you don't really know for sure.
It just goes to show that anything can happen, and teams have to be ready to go night in and night out.
Stanton has to be ready to rock and roll and do great things Saturday night.
The Mustangs have to be upset minded and have nothing but positive thoughts during and heading into this one.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Oakland.
The Stanton Girls fell 62-29 at home to BRLD Saturday night, and 52-48 at home to Twin River Tuesday night.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 9-2 advantage at the end of one. BRLD outscored the Mustangs 20-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-8 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines won the 3rd quarter 17-10 to increase their advantage to 46-18 at the end of three.
BRLD won the 4th quarter 16-11.
Kinley Pohlman had 8 points while Sylvia Cunningham notched 7 rebounds.
The Mustangs led the Titans 9-8 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 10-9 to take a 19-17 lead into the locker room.
Twin River won the 3rd quarter 14-13 to make it a 32-31 game at the end of three.
The Titans outscored Stanton 21-16 in the 4th quarter.
Cunningham had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Emma Hansen and Marissa Remm totaled 8 and 7 points, respectively.
Two difficult defeats for the Mustangs.
Stanton (5-12) takes on Clarkson/Leigh (13-4) in Clarkson Friday night in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament.
The Patriots won 49-39 at home over Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.
The Mustangs have lost two in a row while Clarkson/Leigh has won three straight and 11 out of their last 12.
Certainly you would think the Patriots have the advantage heading into this one.
Stanton has to find a way to bounce back and rebound from the two tough losses on Saturday and Tuesday.
The Mustangs have to go out there and give it their all and their best shot.
I don't think Stanton played their best basketball on Tuesday.
I feel the Mustangs can and will be better against Clarkson/Leigh.
I look for Stanton to come out and play hard and put up a fight.
The Patriots beat Wisner-Pilger by 10 while the Mustangs beat the Gators by 3 so this one could be close.
Clarkson/Leigh also beat Twin River by 33 though.
It's really all about matchups, and I feel Stanton matches up well with the Patriots.
Clarkson/Leigh got the Mustangs in the Conference Tournament last year though, and will look to do it again.
Last year was last year though, and Stanton has to come out and play an amazing game Friday night.
The Mustangs have to find that extra gear and kick things into high gear.
Stanton has to find a way to get back to the way they were playing prior to the loss to the Wolverines.
I feel the Mustangs took a step back with the loss to Twin River.
We'll see what Stanton has and what they can do Friday night.
I think the game has a chance to be close or it could be a blowout.
