BRLD Boys beat Tekamah-Herman and West Point-Beemer; Girls down Tigers, lose to Cadets
The BRLD Boys Basketball Team picked up an 84-31 win in Lyons over Tekamah-Herman Friday night before downing West Point-Beemer 48-43 in Lyons on Saturday.
The Cadets jumped out to a 14-8 lead before the Wolverines won the 2nd quarter 9-5 to make it a 19-17 game at halftime in favor of West Point-Beemer.
Both teams scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score after 3 was 29-27 in favor of the Cadets.
BRLD outscored West Point-Beemer 21-14 in the 4th quarter.
What a great comeback the Wolverines made against the Cadets. BRLD finished strong, something you like to see in a great team.
The Wolverines (10-1) host Oakland-Craig (10-4) Friday night.
The Knights won 67-60 at home over Walthill Tuesday night.
Oakland-Craig is on a roll having won 7 in a row.
This should be a great game. I fully expect both teams to go blow for blow and really get after things.
This is a huge game from the standpoint of these two teams could very well meet again in the East Husker Conference Tournament and in Sub-Districts.
This is also a game between two brothers who are the head coaches...Cory Meyer of BRLD and Aaron Meyer of Oakland-Craig.
It's always a good game when these two get together, and I expect nothing less than a great game Friday night.
It's Lucas Vogt, Kenyan Lovejoy, Trent Gatewood, Will Gatzemeyer and others for the Wolverines against the likes of Garrett Seagren, Kobe Benne, Wyatt Seagren, and others for the Knights.
It should be a high scoring affair between two teams who really like to and can get up and down the court.
I look for both teams to really get after one another on both ends of the floor, and make the game great.
Defensive pressure and intensity will be critical for BRLD I would say.
Oakland-Craig is the more experienced and veteran laden team while the Wolverines are younger so it will be interesting to see who comes through the best down the stretch, and who makes the clutch plays in the big moments.
This is the type of competition BRLD is going to see on their way to a state berth if they get there so this game should, at the very least, prepare the Wolverines for what they're going to see down the line.
This game is so big...it's for bragging rights and conference and sub-district positioning.
I look for this game to be decided by single digits and be very tight and close.
I fully expect the game to come down to the 4th quarter, and perhaps be decided in the final minutes or seconds.
A lot of outstanding athletes are taking part in this game, and it should be a very and entertaining one to watch.
The BRLD Girls Basketball Team defeated Tekamah-Herman 48-25 at home Friday night before losing 45-37 at home to West Point-Beemer on Saturday.
The Wolverines led the Tigers 16-7 after one and outscored Tekamah-Herman 10-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-9 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 8-7 to go up 34-16 at the end of three.
The Wolverines outscored the Tigers 14-9 in the 4th quarter.
BRLD and the Cadets were tied at 13 after one before West Point-Beemer outscored the Wolverines 15-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-23 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 10-6 to make it a 34-33 game at the end of three in favor of the Cadets.
West Point-Beemer outscored BRLD 11-4 in the 4th quarter.
I thought the Wolverines played a very strong game against the Tigers defensively, but struggled offensively against the Cadets.
Credit West Point-Beemer's defense for slowing down BRLD's good offense, but the Wolverines definitely could of been better offensively.
BRLD (9-3) hosts Oakland-Craig (10-3) Friday night.
Oakland-Craig lost 46-45 at Elmwood-Murdock on Saturday.
Oakland-Craig had won 7 in a row, including a 36-30 home win over Stanton on Friday, before suffering the loss to Elmwood-Murdock.
Kennedy Benne is the key for Oakland-Craig in this one.
She has to have a big game for the Knights to be able to win, in my opinion.
The Wolverines have to have a good game plan defensively, and must be ready to guard her tightly and get as physical as possible with her.
BRLD can't fall asleep on Ashley Denton either though.
Vicki Gatzemeyer, Paige Peters, Tiahna Bonneau, Sophia Henneman, Mariah Petersen, Brandi Simonsen, and Kelsey Larsen all need to have big games for the Wolverines.
Both of these teams are really good and have a lot of depth, and I look for both teams to really get after it and get after one another Friday night.
This game is huge from an East Husker Conference Tournament and Sub-District seeding standpoint.
And this could also be one of multiple meetings between the two teams this season.
This is a big one for both teams, and both teams could really use a win after losing their last game.
I think BRLD probably needs this one a little more than Oakland-Craig does, but don't expect things to come easy for the Wolverines.
I'm sure the Knights will want this one badly as well, and will do their very best to get after things and play a great game.
I look for this game to be decided in the 50's or 60's, and come down to the 4th quarter, and perhaps the final minutes or seconds.
BRLD has to take care of the ball, work the ball around for good shots, and hit open shots and layups.
The Wolverines have to be confident shooting the ball, and have to believe that they can win this game.
BRLD can definitely get the job done, there's no question about it, the Wolverines just have to come out and play their best game of the season.
