Winnebago Boys beat Wynot and Carroll, IA; Girls lose to Ponca

The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team defeated Wynot 70-46 on the road Friday night, and Carroll, IA 63-60 at the Jennie Ed Mid America Center Shootout in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

Two big wins for the Indians, especially on Saturday.

Winnebago (12-1) hosts Ponca (15-0) Tuesday night.

Ponca won 78-40 at Westwood, IA on Saturday.

Ponca has won a lot of games in a row and is the defending Class C-2 State Champion.

Ponca also defeated Winnebago 60-58 on December 30th in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Championship Game.

You can bet Winnebago will have payback on their minds.

I'm sure Winnebago is licking their chops and chomping at the bit to get Ponca back.

I think there's a good chance Winnebago will win this "revenge" game too.

Winnebago is at home, and is getting a great Ponca team in their house.

I'm sure Winnebago will have plenty of motivation given the loss to Ponca in December and the loss at Ponca last year.

Ponca has given Winnebago trouble over the past couple of years, but I look for Tuesday night's game to be a time where Winnebago comes out on top.

This is a huge game for Winnebago, and they have to be ready to ball and be on top of their game.

Winnebago has to get out and run and attack from the onset.

Winnebago has to punch Ponca in the mouth early on, and set the tone for the game.

Winnebago has to come out serious, motivated, and with all pistons firing.

Winnebago has to have a business like attitude in this game.

Winnebago has to come out ready to smash, and must be ready to take it to Ponca for 4 quarters.

Winnebago has to be loose and should smile and laugh before the game, but get into serious mode once the game begins.

This is a huge for Winnebago, and they have to make a statement in this one.

You can bet Winnebago has been waiting for and has had this one circled on their calendar for quite some time so I fully expect them to come out and play well, and pick up the win over Ponca.

This is the 1st of 3 really big games in a row for Winnebago.

The Winnebago Girls Basketball Team lost 69-55 at Wynot Friday night.

I thought the Indians were going to win this one, but I was wrong.

Winnebago (6-7) plays host to Ponca (9-7) Tuesday night.

Ponca lost 64-45 at Westwood, IA on Saturday and has dropped two in a row.

Ponca may be 9-7, but they've lost to some really good teams.

Winnebago has dropped 2 out of their last 3 so they could really use a win in this one.

Jayla Price, Charli Earth, Kae Earth, Isabel Earth, and others have to step up and have big games offensively for Winnebago.

Winnebago's defense also has to be stout and solid.

I think defense is going to be key in this game.

Winnebago has defend the way that Westwood, IA and Elk Point-Jefferson, SD did last week when they held Ponca to 45, and 38 points, respectively.

Scoring has been an issue for Ponca, and if Winnebago can turn a strong defensive performance they should have enough offense to win you would think.

Ponca has been very strong defensively though, only giving up over 50 points twice, and exactly 50 two times as well.

So Winnebago has to show up and play a great and strong game Tuesday night.

Winnebago has to want it more than Ponca, and has to play harder than them.

Winnebago has to look to run and gun at every opportunity, and has to do the fundamental things well.

Things like pressuring the ball tightly, creating turnovers, contesting shots, and boxing out and rebounding are all important defensively, in my opinion.

On offense, I would say taking care of the ball, making good, smart passes, being aggressive, attacking the basket, finding good, open looks from the inside and outside, getting to the free throw line, and setting good, hard screens are all going to be key and important.

Winnebago has some big games coming up so this is a key juncture in the season for them, and Winnebago needs to step up and play well prior to the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.

I look for Winnebago to compete hard in these next 4 games, and do everything they can to win them.

I think all of these next 4 games are winnable for Winnebago as long as they step up and play up to their potential.
