The Cadets, who have won 4 out of their last 5, forced 21 turnovers, unofficially. Head Coach Cody Bobolz. "Yeah no really pleased with our defense really since the later part of December we've really picked it up on the defensive end. Done a much better job containing middle, and one of the guys on the three point line. Our ball pressure's been really good. And so really pleased with that. I thought we did a pretty good job most of the game against really running some of those guys off and really containing. I think defense right now has kind of been our mainstay for us, and on a night when our offense maybe wasn't quite as good, we know we got our defense to fall back on here for us."
The Cadets (8-5) host Tekamah-Herman (0-10) on Saturday.
The Tigers lost 55-31 at Clarkson/Leigh this past Saturday.
West Point-Beemer is 6-2 since losing 62-40 at Howells-Dodge on Tuesday, December 12th. "Yeah that Howells game was tough to swallow. Give credit to them, but that wasn't our best basketball. We kind of hit a reset button a little bit on the season, and just kind of got back to fundamentals. And just playing basketball. And I think our biggest difference from that game on has been the defensive end. We know we got guys that can score, but the defensive end is where it's got to be. It's gotta be where it's constant for us. And yeah I feel really good about what we're doing right now, I like the team chemistry, I like the team togetherness at this point. I really feel like we're starting to put some things together. And the guys are just I think really starting to see that. And really encouraged by the basketball that we're playing. And so we got to continue this. And we're really exicted to see what we can do here over the next month and-a-half," Bobolz said."
This should be an easy win for the Cadets.
West Point-Beemer is playing their best basketball of the season right now as the Cadets have really picked things up lately.
I was really impressed with West Point-Beemer's intensity and defensive pressure Thursday night.
I felt the Cadets did a great job not letting Schuyler get to the basket the first part of the game.
It was a great effort from West Point-Beemer, and it was a lot of fun calling their game.
The Cadets had quite a few kids get in and score, and I look for that to be the case again for West Point-Beemer on Saturday.
It's real important for the Cadets to keep playing well with the East Husker Conference Tournament coming up in a couple of weeks.
West Point-Beemer has to remain sharp and keep playing hard and remain humble and hungry.
The Cadets can't be complacent or satisfied with where they're at now.
West Point-Beemer has to want more, and has to keep playing good, hard nosed, aggressive basketball.

Head Coach Craig Theis on the win. "Schuyler plays a Class B schedule so they're not going to be scared of West Point coming at them tonight. So we knew it was going to be a tough game. They always play us really hard. They're really physical. But yeah we feel really good for 4 quarters, played 32 minutes of basketball. And to push the basketball, hit open shots, and let our defense get us some easy baskets. And we were able to do that tonight. And jeez I think we played 15 kids there so that really benefits you in a game cause you can get out and run really well."
Schuyler had 30 turnovers, unofficially. "Yeah once again we say at West Point-Beemer we want to hang our hat on defense cause you can bring that every single night, there's no excuses. And when you come on the road your defense can really set your tempo. And we really love our pressure defense. And we can kind of attack you a couple of different ways. We worked on some half court stuff tonight a little bit too. Dropping back, a little run and jump. And man we really like it cause we have some really nice athletes and some girls that are really intelligent away from the basketball. And once again just do a great job. Those girls they're putting a lot of hard work in. And it's nice to see them rewarded. 6 wins in a row now so that's nice, Theis said."
Andrea Hoffman had a game-high 14 points for the Cadets while Brittney Hinkel totaled 12. Sidney Swanson and Katie Pilakowski added 8 apiece while Makenna Weddle notched 7.
West Point-Beemer (10-4) hosts Tekamah-Herman (3-11) on Saturday.
The Tigers lost 45-25 at Clarkson/Leigh on Saturday.
Theis on the matchup. "Tekamah every year that's always a battle. New coach, I know Coach Eriksen, but once again it's the same Tekamah. And we always say we want to respect everyone, but fear no one. So we're prepared to get back at home after two road games, and hopefully all those shots we shoot in the morning and after practice and stuff hopefully will fall in at home and they get win number 7 so it would be really nice."
The Tigers are a scrappy, capable team, but the Cadets have been flat out good and dominate lately, in my opinion.
West Point-Beemer has won 6 in a row for a reason, and I look for the Cadets to pick up win number 7 in a row on Saturday.
The Cadets have some big games prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament, and I look for West Point-Beemer to continue to win games and dominate.
West Point-Beemer is very deep and very good.
To me there's not a lot of drop off between their first five and second five.
Girls know their roles and play them well.
There appears to be really good continuity and teamwork amongst all the players.
The Cadets seem to get along very well with one another, and that's always a sign you like to see with any team.
I think West Point-Beemer has a chance to make a run at the state tournament, and get to Lincoln if they continue to win ball games.
Defense wins championships, and I think the Cadets are one of the best defensive teams in the area.
I feel West Point-Beemer is more of a complete team this year than in years past.
I feel like the Cadets had a lot of individual talent in recent years, but this year everyone seems to be getting involved one way or another.
