Stanton Boys 0-3 in last three games; Girls remain undefeated

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team continues to struggle as the Mustangs lost 67-42 at home to Wisner-Pilger on Thursday, December 21st before falling 65-36 to West Holt in the Stanton Holiday Tournament last Thursday, and 46-30 to Hartington-Newcastle in the consolation game on Friday.

The Gators led the Mustangs 15-10 after one. Wisner-Pilger won the 2nd quarter 13-10 to take a 28-20 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored Stanton 20-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 48-28 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 19-14.

Broderick Sieh had 17 points while Beau Wilke registered 10.

The Huskies held an 11-10 lead on the Mustangs at the end of one. West Holt outscored Stanton 19-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-17 lead into the locker room.

The Huskies doubled up the Mustangs 16-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 46-25 at the end of three.

Hartington-Newcastle put up 6 points in the 4th quarter and held the Mustangs to 5.

Nate Arens finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds while Wilke posted 7 points. Spotanski added 7 rebounds.

Stanton simply continues to struggle.

The Mustangs (1-9) travel to Oakland to battle Oakland-Craig (8-4) Friday night.

The Knights have won five in a row, including a 67-41 decision over Wilber-Clatonia in the Malcolm Holiday Tournament Championship game on Friday.

This figures to be another very challenging game for Stanton.

Oakland-Craig has really been good ever since getting Garrett Seagren back, and have been a better team ever since.

The Mustangs have to try and contain him, and slow down the Knights' other scorers like Kobe Benne, Garrison Dodge, Jared Mulder, and Wyatt Seagren.

Arens, Spotanksi, Wilke, and Sieh all need to have huge games for Stanton.

I think all four need to be in double figures for the Mustangs to win.

Stanton has really struggled on both ends of the floor, and has to figure things out as soon as possible.

The Mustangs have to play their hearts out and leave it all out on the floor.

Stanton can't back down from Oakland-Craig whatsoever.

The Knights won a game at the buzzer last year if memory serves me correct, and while that may not happen again this year, it's something I'm sure the Mustangs haven't forgotten.

Stanton has to do everything in their power to get payback, and find a way to pull the upset.

The Mustangs have to play aggressive, and must attack the basket from all angles.

Stanton has to play without fear and with reckless abandonment.

The Mustangs can't hold anything back, and must give an all out effort for 4 quarters.

Stanton has to play smart defense and box out and rebound well as well.

The Mustangs also have to be fundamentally sound on offense, and must execute in the half court and transition games.

Stanton has to shoot with confidence, and believe that they can win.

There's potential on this Mustang squad, Stanton just has to go out there and put things all together Friday night.

The Stanton Girls Basketball Team continues to roll, defeating Wisner-Pilger 51-39 at home on Thursday, December 21st, West Holt 47-34 in the 1st round of the Stanton Holiday Tournament last Thursday, and Hartington-Newcastle 49-40 in overtime in the tournament championship game on Friday.

The Mustangs led the Gators 14-4 at the end of one. Stanton outscored Wisner-Pilger 13-10 in the 2nd quarter to build a 27-14 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 11-10 to go up 38-24 at the end of three.

The Gators put up 15 points in the 4th quarter compared to 13 for Stanton.

Hannah Heppner had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Liz Christensen and Jaiden Hartl totaled 11 points apiece. Jessie Brandl added 9.

The Mustangs got out to a 13-10 lead on the Huskies after one. Stanton outscored West Holt 13-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-19 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 32-25 in favor of the Mustangs at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 15-9.

Bree Burtwhistle led the way with 13 points while Christensen notched 10. Heppner added 9 points and 13 rebounds while Brandl registered 7 points and 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs jumped out to an 11-5 lead on the Wildcats at the end of one. Hartington-Newcastle won the 2nd quarter 6-4 to make it a 15-11 game at halftime.

The Wildcats outscored Stanton 11-8 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 23-22 game at the end of three.

Hartington-Newcastle won the 4th quarter 12-11 to tie the game at 34 and send it into overtime.

The Mustangs outlasted the Wildcats 15-6 in the extra session.

Christensen tallied a game-high 16 points while Brandl had 11. Heppner chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds while Hartl posted 7 rebounds.

Stanton may not blow teams out, but they are solid and find ways to win.

The Mustangs (10-0) battle Oakland-Craig (9-2) in Oakland Friday night.

The Knights have won 6 in a row, their last win a 44-40 decision over Malcolm in the Malcolm Holiday Tournament Championship Game.

Stanton has to do a good job of containing, or at least trying to limit and slow down Kennedy Benne.

She has really stepped up in the absence of Dacey Nelson, and led the Knights.

Natalia McNeill, Makenna Pearson, Mya Guzinski, and Grace Pille have all stepped up at different times for Oakland-Craig in the last few games as well.

The Knights are a complete team as are the Mustangs, and that should make for a great game.

Christensen, Burtwhistle, Brandl, Hartl, and Heppner need to have standout performances for Stanton.

The Mustangs need to be up to snuff and on top of their game because you know Oakland-Craig is going to bring it.

Stanton has to bring their best two and be ready to go toe-to-toe, blow for blow with the Knights.

I'm sure Oakland-Craig will be very hungry and anxious for a win and will be chomping at the bit to take on the Mustangs.

I can't think of a more even matchup in the area since I started at KTIC.

I really feel this game can go either way, and has the potential to go down to the wire.

It wouldn't surprise me if this game was decided by 5 points or less.

I think both teams are great and exceptional, and will put on a show and have a good showing Friday night.

This game would definitely be a great one to call, that's for sure.

It should be a lot of fun for the players, coaches, parents, and fans.

All three communities should be very excited for this game and pack the house.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of fans at this game. I think there's going to be a lot of interest in this game by fans of both teams.

It should be a great one.
