Clarkson/Leigh Boys and Girls beat Tekamah-Herman; lose to Humphrey St. Francis

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team picked up their first win of the season last Saturday with a 55-31 home win over Tekamah-Herman before losing 69-48 at Humphrey St. Francis Friday night.

The Patriots jumped out to a 19-4 lead on the Tigers at the end of one. Clarkson/Leigh won the 2nd quarter 10-6 to take a 29-10 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 12 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score after 3 was 41-22 in favor of the Patriots.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Tekamah-Herman 14-9 in the 4th quarter.

Garrett Schroeder had 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Patriots while Anthony Bruhn totaled 13 points. Daniel Beller added 9 points and 10 rebounds while Haden Held notched 8 points.

The Patriots and Flyers were tied at 14 after one. Humphrey St. Francis won the 2nd quarter 19-11 to take a 33-25 lead into the locker room.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to make it a 44-37 game at the end of three.

The Flyers outscored the Patriots 25-11 in the 4th quarter.

Beller finished with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds while Bruhn and Schroeder totaled 10 points apiece. Tommy McEvoy chipped in 8 points.

I thought Clarkson/Leigh played exceptionally well for 3 quarters against Humphrey St. Francis. I think winning over Tekamah-Herman and getting McEvoy on the floor really helped the Patriots' confidence and momentum against with the Flyers.

Clarkson/Leigh (1-11) takes on Elgin/Public Pope John (1-11) on the road Tuesday night.

The Wolfpack lost 32-30 at Stuart Friday night.

This should be a good, close game that I think the Patriots will win.

I think Clarkson/Leigh has a chance to pick up a couple more wins prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament and a couple more wins after the tournament.

I feel like the Patriots have started to turn the corner some now it's a matter of learning how to finish games.

Beller is having a great season, and Bruhn, Schroeder, Held, and McEvoy are all big contributors as well.

I look for Clarkson/Leigh to make a little run at the end of the season and win some more ball games.

Elgin Public/Pope John only has 9 players out for the team this year so the Patriots should be able to wear the Wolfpack down with their depth and numbers.

I really think having McEvoy on the floor now and winning a game is going to allow Clarkson/Leigh to play the best basketball they have of the season.

I look for the Patriots to build off what they've done over the last two games and play their best game of the year Tuesday night.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be aggressive on offense and attack the basket with authority.

The Patriots also have to get after it defensively and pressure the ball heavily.

Clarkson/Leigh has to contest shots and create turnovers and get out in transition.

The Patriots also need to box out and rebound well.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be confident shooting the ball, and has to be calm and loose heading into the game.

As long as the Patriots aren't nervous and tight they should be fine, and should be able to pick up the win Tuesday night.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls Basketball Team won 45-25 at home over Tekamah-Herman last Saturday before losing 55-47 at Humphrey St. Francis Friday night.

The Patriots jumped out to a 10-2 lead on the Tigers after one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-8 to lead 21-10 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Tekamah-Herman 12-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 33-19 at the end of three.

The Patriots doubled up the Tigers 12-6 in the 4th quarter.

Kaegan Held had 18 points while Kim Stodola and Halee Steffensmeier notched 8 and 7, respectively.

The Flyers tripled up Clarkson/Leigh 12-4 in the 1st quarter. The Patriots won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to make it a 23-19 game at halftime.

Humphrey St. Francis outscored Clarkson/Leigh 16-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up by 10 at 39-29 at the end of three.

The Patriots won the 4th quarter 18-16.

I thought Clarkson/Leigh played good basketball and at a high level against both teams.

The Patriots (9-4) take on Elgin/Public Pope John (12-2) on the road Tuesday night.

The Wolfpack won 49-29 at Stuart Friday night.

This figures to be a very difficult game for Clarkson/Leigh.

The Wolfpack appears to be the real deal, and figure to give the Patriots all they can handle.

Clarkson/Leigh plays a very tough schedule though and has a very good defense.

The Patriots' offense is going to be the key in this one, in my opinion.

I think Clarkson/Leigh may need to score over 50 to win this one.

Elgin/Public Pope John has been scoring in the 50's and 60's pretty much the whole season so I would say the Patriots need to score in the mid to high 40's or 50's at least to win.

I think Clarkson/Leigh's defense is strong enough to hold the Wolfpack under 50 so it will be interesting to see who wins.

This would be a huge win for the Patriots in terms of power points.

Clarkson/Leigh is currently sitting 7th in power points in D-1, and a win over Elgin/Public Pope John would garner them 50 points.

I think a win would also continue to build the Patriots' confidence, and give them momentum for the East Husker Conference Tournament and Sub-Districts.

I think it's ultimately going to come down to beating Guardian Angels Central Catholic to get out of sub-districts so the Patriots have to keep winning and improving as a team.

Clarkson/Leigh has to go out there with a ferocious attitude and take it to the Wolfpack for 4 quarters.

The Patriots have to play suffocating, trapping and in your face defense, and tightly contest shots.

Clarkson/Leigh has to communicate together well on offense and defense as well as make good, sharp crisp passes, cut to the basket hard, and set hard screens.

The Patriots just have to get off to a stronger start against Elgin/Public Pope John than they did against Humphrey St. Francis, and has to play the way they did the last 3 quarters against the Flyers.

If Clarkson/Leigh can do that I think they have a good chance to win.
