Tekamah-Herman Boys go 0-2 at Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament; Girls 2-2 in last four contests
The Tekamah-Herman Boys Basketball Team went 0-2 at the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament, falling 50-21 to BDS last Thursday, and 65-19 to Parkview Christian on Friday.
The Eagles led 15-3 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 8-7 to take a 23-10 lead into the locker room.
BDS outscored the Tigers 19-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 42-17 at the end of three.
The Eagles doubled up Tekamah-Herman 8-4 in the 4th quarter.
Tough tournament for the Tigers, who continue to struggle.
Tekamah-Herman (0-8) takes on BRLD (8-1) in Lyons Friday night.
The Wolverines won 89-24 at Cedar Bluffs Tuesday night.
This figures to be another very difficult game for the Tigers.
Playing a team like BRLD figures to be very tough, and beating them a more daunting task.
Tekamah-Herman has to head into the game with a positive, upbeat attitude though.
The Tigers have to play to win the game, and believe that they can do good things in this game.
Tekamah-Herman may not win, but the Tigers must have the mindset that they're going to.
The Tigers are a work in progress, and the Wolverines are just another team in the way of Tekamah-Herman becoming a complete product.
The Tigers have to look at BRLD and see what they do and how they win, and apply it to their game.
The Wolverines are a good team to grow from a loss against, and Tekamah-Herman has to look at this game as an opportunity to get better and make progress.
I'm sure it can't be easy to think positive, and I'm sure it would be easy for the Tigers to feel down and out of it, but Tekamah-Herman has to keep their spirits up.
The Tigers have to come out and play the game, and see what happens.
Tekamah-Herman has to control what they can control, and play hard and with great effort.
If the Tigers can avoid getting beat by the running clock rule I think that would be something positive for Tekamah-Herman to take away.
BRLD is a great team, and I just don't see the Tigers picking up the win, but Tekamah-Herman figures to have a chance to pick up their first win of the year on Saturday at Clarkson/Leigh.
So knowing that the Tigers have a chance to beat the Patriots should inspire, pump up, and motivate Tekamah-Herman Friday night.
The Tigers should almost use the BRLD game as a springboard into Saturday if that makes any sense.
Tekamah-Herman should play to win Friday night's game, but find positives to take away from the game should they lose.
Saturday's game against Clarkson/Leigh will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls Basketball Team lost 56-26 to BDS in the opening round of the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament last Thursday before beating Parkview Christian 50-14 and Thayer Central 41-34 at the tournament on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Tigers turned around and lost 64-40 at home to Omaha Roncalli Tuesday night.
The Eagles led Tekamah-Herman 10-7 after the 1st quarter before outscoring them 22-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-13 lead into the locker room.
BDS outscored the Tigers 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 49-21 at the end of three.
The Eagles won the 4th quarter 7-5.
Marin Jetensky had 26 against the Patriots while Jadyn Fleischman totaled 8. Jetensky completed a double-double with 13 rebounds and Fleischman added 10 boards. Jetensky, Fleischman & Gabby Mercier each led in steals for the Tigers with four apiece. Mercier added five points and six boards.
Against the Titans, Jetensky had 20 points and 14 boards (according to Hudl). Mercier chipped in 10 and Fleischman had 8.
Against the Crimson Pride, Marin was the lone player in double figures for the Tigers, scoring 16. Everyone else that scored for T-H was held to five or less due to numerous turnovers.
I think Tekamah-Herman has to be encouraged by the fact that they're playing better basketball than they were to start the season.
The Tigers (3-9) battle BRLD (8-2) in Lyons Friday night.
The Wolverines won 67-18 at Cedar Bluffs Tuesday night.
BRLD has been playing great basketball all season long, and has beaten teams like Clarkson/Leigh and Howells-Dodge.
Tekamah-Herman is going to need to play lights out defense to slow down and contend with the Wolverines.
The Tigers have to slow down BRLD's scorers in Mariah Petersen, Vicki Gatzemeyer, Paige Peters, Kelsey Larsen, Sophia Henneman, Brandi Simonsen, and Tiaha Bonneau.
Easier said than done, but Tekamah-Herman has to contain all of these players if at all possible.
I think the Tigers are definitely capable of playing a good game and competing with the Wolverines, but I don't know if Tekamah-Herman can beat BRLD.
If the Tigers create turnovers and cause havoc for the Wolverines offensively then they could win, but it doesn't figure to be easy.
Tekamah-Herman has to shoot a high percentage and get Jetensky, Fleischman, and Mercier to score a lot of points.
I think one of the biggest differences between the Tigers and BRLD right now is depth.
The Wolverines have tremendous depth and a lot of scorers where as Tekamah-Herman doesn't have as many girls who light it up from the field.
The Tigers are getting better, but will be tested this weekend for sure.
Tekamah-Herman faces Clarkson/Leigh on the road Saturday, and that figures to be a tough game as well.
But like they say...in order to be the best you have to beat the best.
And so these next two games are bigger than just winning the games themselves for this season.
They're both a part of the progress and growth of the program, and building a consistent winner.
Both games will greatly impact the process of the Tigers continuing to build their program, in my opinion.
I look for Tekamah-Herman to be competitive in both games this weekend, win or lose.
Saturday's game against the Patriots can be heard on 107.9 the Bull. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
