GACC Boys lose to Boone Central/Newman Grove and Battle Creek; Girls lose to Cardinals, down Braves

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 60-42 at home to Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday and 61-45 at home to Battle Creek Tuesday night.

The Cardinals led 9-6 after one and won the 2nd quarter 15-12 to take a 24-18 lead into the locker room.

BC/NG outscored the Bluejays 23-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-26 at the end of three.

GACC won the 4th quarter 16-13.

Landon Stalp had 13 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Casey Doernemann added a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Jared Minnick notched 10 points.

I thought the Bluejays competed well against both teams, at least compared to the way they've competed against other teams this year.

GACC (3-10) hosts O'Neill (13-0) Friday night.

The Eagles are coming off a 71-41 win at Wagner, SD Tuesday night.

Very tough matchup for the Bluejays, but I totally expect GACC to come out and give things their best shot.

O'Neill is a great team, and might be the toughest team the Bluejays have faced so far this season.

Minnick, Stalp, Doerneman, and others need to step up and play well for GACC.

The Bluejays have to view this game as an opportunity to get better and pick up a huge win and upset.

Any team can be beat on any given day, and GACC has to play hard and optimistic Friday night.

The Bluejays have to come out and shoot a high percentage and try and contain the Eagles' offense as much as possible.

O'Neill has scored in the 60's and 70's almost every game so GACC has to be ready to bring it for 4 quarters, especially on defense.

What a big deal it would be for the Bluejays to upset the Eagles.

Upsets happen all the time, and GACC has to feel like if they play up to their potential anything can happen.

The Bluejays could very well lose too, but GACC has to think positive and on the bright side of things.

This O'Neill team is the real deal though, and figures to be very difficult to beat and contend with.

The Bluejays are going to have to play a great game to come out on top.

Only GACC's best effort is going to yield them a win.

The Bluejays have to start strong and play well down the stretch and weather any storms the Eagles throw their way if that's possible.

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team was upset 41-32 at home by Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday before defeating Battle Creek 51-47 at home Tuesday night.

The Cardinals led 10-3 after one, and outscored the Bluejays 10-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-7 lead into the locker room.

GACC won the 3rd quarter 13-9 to make it a 29-20 game at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 4th quarter points.

Marissa Hunke posted 11 points for the Bluejays while Maddie Bracht pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Bluejays got out to a 10-6 lead on the Braves after one, and won the 2nd quarter 18-15 to go up 28-21 at halftime.

GACC outscored Battle Creek 12-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 40-28 at the end of three.

The Braves outscored the Bluejays 19-11 in the 4th quarter.

Angela Jansen led the way wtih 16 points while Lexis Haase scored 12. Brenna Rief added 10 while Hunke notched 9.

Nice job by GACC bouncing back from the loss to the Cardinals. I think not having Haase in that one probably cost the Bluejays.

GACC (10-5) hosts O'Neill (10-5) Friday night.

The Eagles, who have won 4 in a row and 6 out of their last 7, won 53-49 at Wagner, SD Tuesday night.

This figures to be a very difficult game for the Bluejays.

GACC is going to need to play a great game as O'Neill owns a win over Crofton.

The Bluejays can definitely win, but it's not going to be easy.

Haase needs to have a big game, and Hunke, Rief, and Jansen need to have solid games as well.

GACC has to get after things defensively, and pressure the Eagles to death with the full court press.

The Bluejays have to play to their strengths, and look to get out and run, create turnovers, and get out in transition.

GACC has to get pumped up and be ready to give it their all for 4 quarters.

The Bluejays have to be aggressive and take the ball strong to the basket.

GACC has to get Haase freed up for 3's and she must also drive and get to the basket the best that she can.

The Bluejays have to play with intensity, mental and physical toughness, grit, fire, tenacity, pride, and passion.

GACC has to go out there and let it rip, and can't hold anything back.

This is a big game for the Bluejays with Hartington Cedar Catholic coming up on Saturday.

GACC takes on the Trojans on the road, and could really use a win over O'Neill.

There's no doubt the Bluejays can pick up a win Friday night.

GACC has to shoot a high percentage and play up to their potential though.

If the Bluejays struggle on offense and score under 50 it could spell doom for them.
