Oakland-Craig Boys 2-1 in last three games; Girls 2-2 in last four

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 in their last 3 contests, doubling up Stanton 60-30 at home last Friday night, winning 67-60 at home over Walthill Tuesday night, and falling 66-53 at BRLD in Lyons Friday night.

The Knights doubled up the Mustangs 16-8 in the 1st quarter and outscored them 21-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-16 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig outscored Stanton 22-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 59-26 at the end of three.

The Mustangs won the 4th quarter 4-1.

Cole Bures had 16 points and 9 rebounds while Jared Mulder and Garrett Seagren chipped in 11 and 7, respectively.

The Blujays went up 16-15 after one before the Knights outscored Walthill 18-12 in the 2nd quarter to go up 33-28 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig won the 3rd quarter 21-20 to lead 54-48 at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 13-12.

Garrison Dodge totaled 18 points to lead the team while Wyatt Seagren notched 17 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Seagren added 9 points while Bures amassed 8 rebounds.

Oakland-Craig held a 14-12 lead at the end of the 1st quarter over the Wolverines before BRLD outscored the Knights 20-9 in the 2nd quarter to go up 32-23 at halftime.

Both teams scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score after three was 46-37 in favor of the Wolverines.

BRLD won the 4th quarter 20-16.

Seagren posted a team-high 20 points while Dodge and Kobe Benne registered 8 and 7, respectively. Bures registered 7 rebounds.

Tough loss for Oakland-Craig Friday night, but good wins against Walthill and Stanton I thought.

The Knights (10-5) host Tekamah-Herman (0-11) Tuesday night.

The Tigers lost 66-34 at home to Madison Friday night.

It has been a long and difficult year for Tekamah-Herman, but you can bet the Tigers will still come out and work and play hard.

Oakland-Craig has to be ready to play, and has to be ready to take it to Tekamah-Herman for 4 quarters.

The Knights have to respect and be prepared for the rival Tigers.

This is a big game for Oakland-Craig given the nature of the rivalry, and I look for the Knights to play well.

This is Oakland-Craig's last real gimme game of the regular season discluding any East Husker Conference Tournament games, in my opinion.

Oakland-Craig should be able to beat Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family next Tuesday, but the North Bend Central, Fremont Bergan, and West Point-Beemer games figure to be very difficult.
The Conference Tournament figures to be very competitive as well so it's time for Oakland-Craig to regroup and regather themselves following the loss to the Wolverines.

The 2nd quarter is what cost the Knights Friday night, in my opinion.

Oakland-Craig had won 7 in a row, but now that losing streak is over.

Kind of a big loss for the Knights though seeing as BRLD is in their sub-district.

I look for Oakland-Craig to take their frustrations of losing to the Wolverines out on the Tigers.

This is one of those games where Oakland-Craig should be able to win by the running clock, and get starters 2-3 quarters of work and then rest them.

Everyone should see the floor for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig should get a lot of kids in the scoring column as well.

The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team is 2-2 in their last four games, knocking off previously unbeaten Stanton 36-30 at home last Friday night, falling 46-45 at Elmwood-Murdock last Saturday, winning 51-28 over Emerson-Hubbard on the road Thursday night, and falling 69-39 at BRLD Friday night.

The Knights led Stanton 10-6 after one before the Mustangs outscored them 9-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 15-13 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig outscored Stanton 11-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 24-18 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 points in the 4th quarter.

Kennedy Benne had a game-high 15 points for the Knights while Ashley Denton posted 9.

Elmwood-Murdock got out to a 15-12 lead at the end of one before Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to make it a 21-19 game at halftime.

Elmwood-Murdock won the 3rd quarter 10-9 to extend the lead to 31-28 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig outscored Elmwood-Murdock 17-15 in the 4th quarter.

Benne led the way with 16 points while Natalia McNeill registered 10 points and 7 rebounds. Makenna Pearson added 7 points while Mya Guzinski pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Knights held a 12-9 lead on the Pirates after one before outscoring Emerson-Hubbard 16-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-9 lead at halftime.

Oakland-Craig outscored Emerson-Hubbard 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to lead 45-17 at the end of three.

The Pirates won the 4th quarter 11-6.

Benne notched 15 points while Grace Pille totaled 8 points and 8 rebounds. Pearson added 8 points while Guzinski recorded 10 rebounds.

BRLD jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one, and won the 2nd quarter 17-9 to take a 36-15 lead into the locker room.

The Wolverines outscored the Knights 20-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 56-24 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig won the 4th quarter 15-13.

McNeill led the Knights with a team-high 16 points. Pille notched 8 while Pearson recorded 7.

Oakland-Craig was playing great basketball up until the BRLD game, but Benne tore her ACL against Emerson-Hubbard, a devastating blow for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig (11-4) hosts Tekamah-Herman (4-12) Tuesday night.

The Tigers lost 54-12 at West Point-Beemer on Saturday.

The Knights can definitely win this one, but it doesn't figure to be easy.

Oakland-Craig has to do their best to rally around the healthy players they have, but losing Benne and Dacey Nelson is about as a tough a break as there is in high school sports.

It's definitely a tough situation for the Knights, but Oakland-Craig has to continue on with their season the best they can, and continue to play and work hard.

The Knights can't give in and give up and quit on the season.

Oakland-Craig has to regroup, and come out and play a strong game Tuesday night against the Tigers.

I thought McNeill, Pille, and Pearson did a nice job against BRLD.

I think the Knights can rally around these three players, but players like Guzinski and Ellie Weitzenkamp have to step up their games, especially on the offensive end.

Oakland-Craig has to remain mentally and physically tough, and has to go out there and play for Nelson and Benne.

The Knights have to play even harder and must keep each other even more accountable than they have before.

Oakland-Craig has to come together as one, and try to keep winning the way they have so far this season.

This is such a tough deal, break, and blow for the Knights though, and it's too bad both Nelson and Benne are hurt.

Imagine what Oakland-Craig would be with both of them healthy.

Injuries are a part of the game though, and the Knights just have to deal with this the best they can and play the hand they are dealt.

Nothing can be done to bring Benne back this season so Oakland-Craig has to make do with who they've got.
