West Point-Beemer Boys take 3rd at Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout; Girls finish 5th

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team went 2-1 at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State last week to take 3rd place, beating Norfolk Catholic 55-31 last Thursday afternoon, before falling 48-46 to Hartington Cedar Catholic in last Friday's semifinals. The Cadets turned around and routed Arlington 66-33 in the 3rd place game.

The Cadets led the Knights 9-8 after one before outscoring them 26-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 35-10 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to go up 47-21 at the end of three.

Norfolk Catholic won the 4th quarter 10-8.

Blake Anderson had a team-high 11 points while Chase Streeter scored 10. Tate Ernesti and Hunter Pilakowski totaled 7 apiece while Austin Streeter pulled down 7 rebounds.

The Trojans got out to a 16-12 lead at the end of one, and then outscored the Cadets 15-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 31-16 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer tripled up Cedar Catholic 18-6 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 37-34 game at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 12-11.

Anderson led the way with 19 points while Austin Streeter had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Chase Streeter chipped in 7 points and 8 rebounds.

West Point-Beemer went up on Arlington 17-6 after one. The Cadets outscored the Eagles 17-14 in the 2nd quarter to go up 34-20 at halftime.

West Point-Beemer outscored Arlington 21-3 in the 3rd quarter to lead 55-23 at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 11-10.

Anderson had a team-high 13 points while Garret Meyer poured in 10. Austin Streeter, Gavin Case, and Cole Hughes totaled 7 apiece. Chase Streeter pulled down 8 rebounds.

I thought West Point-Beemer played really well in spurts in this tournament. The Cadets could still be more consistent though.

West Point-Beemer (5-4) hosts Wisner-Pilger (8-2) Friday night.

The Gators beat Pierce 54-37 for 3rd place in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament in Wisner on Saturday.

Wisner-Pilger is a tough team, and certainly won't be easy to beat.

I think the Cadets can win, but West Point-Beemer has to play a more complete game than they have so far.

The Cadets have been great against the teams they're supposed to beat, but haven't been able to get over the hump against the tough teams yet for whatever reason.

West Point-Beemer has another chance to knock off some tough teams though with Wisner-Pilger on Friday, BRLD on Saturday, and Battle Creek on Tuesday.

These next few games could go a long ways in determining what kind of second half of the season the Cadets are going to have, in my opinion.

West Point-Beemer has to step up and play to their full potential, which I think they are capable of doing.

The Cadets have to get pumped, amped, psyched, and fired up for the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger is a rival, and I look for both teams to absolutely get after one another.

I think a win over the Gators could take West Point-Beemer to new heights.

The Cadets have to play with a sense of urgency and their hair on fire because now is the time to go if you are West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets have to play the way they have in their wins, and be consistent on both ends of the floor.

Timely shots and stops will be critical to a West Point-Beemer win on Friday, in my opinion.

The Cadets have to come out and play well in this one.

The Cadets have to come out and play with a real sense of urgency and purpose Friday night.

West Point-Beemer has to be ready to go from the get go, and must play well for 4 quarters.

BRLD on the road Saturday will be tough too, but the Cadets should be focused on beating Wisner-Pilger first.

The West Point-Beemer Girls Basketball Team took 5th place at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne last week, losing 53-46 to Norfolk Catholic in the first game last Thursday before beating Pender 46-44 on Friday, and Gordon-Rushville 66-26 in the 5th place game on Saturday.

The Cadets led the Knights 9-7 after one before Norfolk Catholic doubled up West Point-Beemer 12-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 19-15 lead into the locker room.

The Knights outscored the Cadets 18-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 37-22 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer won the 4th quarter 24-16.

Brittney Hinkel had 18 points and 9 rebounds while Sydney Swanson and Makenna Weddle totaled 12 and 7 points, respectively.

The Cadets got out to an 11-5 lead at the end of one. The Pendragons outscored West Point-Beemer 17-14 in the 2nd quarter to  make it a 25-22 game at halftime.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 10-9 to cut the lead to 2 at 34-32 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 12 4th quarter points.

Hinkel registered 12 points and 7 rebounds while Megan Groth and Swanson totaled 11 and 8, respectively.

The Cadets led the Mustangs 13-7 at the end of one, and outscored Gordon-Rushville 19-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-14 halftime lead.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Mustangs 15-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-20 at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 19-6.

Hinkel had a game-high 12 points while Andrea Hoffman and Katie Pilakowski totaled 9 each. Abbey Dale and Brooklyn Weddle recorded 7 apiece. Brooke Haase registered 7 rebounds.

I thought West Point-Beemer played pretty respectable basketball in this tournament.

The Cadets (6-4) host Wisner-Pilger (4-7) Friday night.

The Gators beat Madison 55-35 at home Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger isn't a bad team and has some girls that can play.

This is a rivalry game and anything can happen.

West Point-Beemer should be able to win as long as they play up to their potential though.

The Cadets have to play a complete four quarter game like they did against Gordon-Rushville.

West Point-Beemer has been competitive in all games this season, and I look for the Cadets to win this one by 7 or something like that.

West Point-Beemer has a tough game at BRLD on Saturday so the Cadets need to play well against the Gators to get themselves ready for the Wolverines.

Hinkel needs to continue her stellar play. I tell you what if she keeps this up watch out for West Point-Beemer.

Swanson, Hoffman, both Weddle's, Haase, Groth, Dale, and Pilakowski have to contribute the way they did at times during the Holiday Tournament.

2-1 is a very respectable record for a Holiday Tournament, but now the Cadets have to be geared up for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators are coming to town, and what a win this would be for West Point-Beemer.

You can bet the Cadets really want this one bad, and will play their hearts out.

West Point-Beemer has to execute their offense and pressure the ball tightly to create turnovers.

The Cadets have to get out in transition and run the floor well.

West Point-Beemer also has to value possessions and must take care of the ball.

I feel the Cadets are the better team, and will show it Friday night.

The Gators are only 2-6 in their last 8 games so it figures to be an uphill battle for Wisner-Pilger.

I look for West Point-Beemer to find a way to win and pick up their 7th victory of the season.

The Cadets have won 3 out of their last 4, and I think they have a good chance to make it 4 out of their last 5.
