Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys 3-0 in last three games; Girls 1-2 in same span
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team topped North Bend Central 54-46 on the road last Friday night, Stanton 68-24 on the road Saturday, and Madison 76-46 at home Tuesday night.
The Tigers held a 12-5 lead after one before the Raiders won the 2nd quarter 14-8 to make it a 20-19 game at halftime in favor of North Bend Central.
LVSS outscored the Tigers 17-12 in the 3rd quarter to lead 36-32 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 18-14.
Jacob Polk had 15 points while Ben Moxness totaled 11. Alex Vonseggern registered 10 while Conner Larson totaled 8.
Polk surpassed the 1,000 point mark for his career in the win.
The Raiders led the Mustangs 21-2 after one and outscored Stanton 22-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-10 lead into the locker room.
LVSS outscored the Mustangs 17-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 60-19 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 8-5.
Polk recorded 22 points and 8 rebounds while Moxness and Larson notched 15 and 9 points, respectively.
Against Madison, the Raiders started the game on a 9-0 run and led 23-10 at the end of one. LVSS outscored the Dragons 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 41-17 lead into the locker room.
The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 19-14 to go up 60-31 at the end of three.
LVSS won the 4th quarter 16-15.
Moxness had a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. VonSeggern added 15 points while Polk scored 14.
Head Coach Sean Forbes says he was pleased with his team's defense. "I thought tonight the team defense was really key. Madison can really shoot it. So when we did get to the shooters I mean they knocked down 3's, but we had a really good effort. I'm proud of our guys."
The Raiders (10-2) host Wisner-Pilger (9-3) on Saturday.
The Gators won 63-41 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.
Forbes says the Gators will be a formidable foe. "Yeah it will really be a tough game. They're good, they're very well coached. We just got to do what we do. Play great defense, and hopefully knock down some shots. I mean it will be a good game, we're looking forward to playing it, but we know it's going to be a tough one. And conference seeding after next weekend comes out so it's really important for us to come out and play well against Wisner, but it won't be easy, they're a good team."
This figures to be a very good game between two of the top teams in the conference.
LVSS is going to need to bring it in a big way.
The Raiders need to continue to get big contributions from Moxness, Polk, VonSeggern, and Larson.
I think LVSS has a good chance to win this one. I like the way the Raiders are playing right now, and look for LVSS to win.
This game is big for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding.
I would think the Raiders stand a good chance to be the top seed, but if LVSS loses this game and another that could change.
The Raiders have a bunch of games coming up before the East Husker Conference Tournament so it's important for LVSS to be ready to go and keep winning every time out.
The Raiders have to be ready to take each team's best shot every night because they are the hunted being a really good team.
It's also important for LVSS to keep winning for the purposes of wildcard points should they need a wildcard to make state.
The Raiders are a great team and are having a great season, and need to keep it up.
LVSS has to keep pushing, working hard, and grinding, and realize there's a lot of season left, and that the job is not done yet.
The Raiders have to come out and play strong defense, slowing down the likes of Gunner Labenz, Keegan Ruskamp, Jayden Raabe, and Hunter Waterman.
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls Basketball Team is 1-2 in their last three games, falling 59-21 at North Bend Central last Friday night, and 48-26 at Stanton on Saturday, before winning 42-29 at home over Madison Tuesday night.
The Tigers got out to an 11-6 lead after one, and outscored the Raiders 11-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-10 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 22-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 44-14 at the end of three.
The Tigers won the 4th quarter 15-7.
The Mustangs held a 16-5 lead on the Raiders at the end of one. Stanton outscored LVSS 15-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 31-12 lead into the locker room.
The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 11-2 to go up 42-14 at the end of three.
The Raiders doubled up Stanton 12-6 in the 4th quarter.
Kaylee Boyle had a team-high 9 points while Shaylin Daugherty added 9 rebounds.
The Dragons jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the end of one before the Raiders outscored them 13-3 in a second quarter that included a 9-0 run to lead 15-12 at halftime.
LVSS continued their dominant ways in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Madison 13-2 to lead 28-14 at the end of three.
The Dragons won the 4th quarter 15-14.
Boyle had a game-high 17 points for the Raiders. Morgan Morgan chipped in 11.
Head Coach Nick Hegge says his team really picked things up in the 2nd quarter after a slow start. "Yes we did an excellent job attacking the basket in the 2nd quarter. Early on they got off to a hot start, knocked down some 3-pointers. The girls did an excellent job of just staying calm and playing good defense. And eventually we started to get some rebounds. Started getting to the free throw line. And the last 3 quarters our offense looked really good so I'm proud of the way that they hung in there through a little bit of a shaky start."
The Raiders were 17-26 at the free throw line.
LVSS (4-8) hosts Wisner-Pilger (4-9) on Saturday.
The Gators lost 56-42 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.
"They got a talented center. As good as any post player that we'll probably face this year. So they're going to be a tough challenge for us, but we feel good about some things that we're doing, and we're just going to stick with it, keep working hard. And eventually I think our kids are going to get rewarded here," Hegge said.
I assume the center Hegge is talking about is Jordan Wegner.
She's a great player, and this should be a close and entertaining ball game.
Boyle, Morgan, Daugherty, and others have to step up and play well for the Raiders.
This should be a good and interesting game.
Wisner-Pilger has been without Alexis Heller so the Gators figure to be at a disadvantage.
I think LVSS can definitely win this one.
Wisner-Pilger has been up and down, and I feel the Raiders are doing some nice things.
With that said, I feel the Gators are a better team than their record and have some nice talent.
It wouldn't surprise me if Wisner-Pilger won, but I could see LVSS winning as well.
I truly feel this is a game that could go either way.
I will say one thing though...I think the Raiders are going to need to get off to a stronger start than they did against Madison.
If LVSS digs themselves a deep hole again it might be one they can't climb out of this time around.
The Raiders need to play 4 good quarters of basketball to win, in my opinion.
I think anything less than playing well for 4 quarters could very well result in a loss for LVSS.
The Raiders have to come ready to play from the start.
