Oakland-Craig Boys top Tekamah-Herman; Girls upset by Tigers

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team won 63-24 at home over Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

The Knights jumped out to a 27-4 lead after one before outscoring the Tigers 22-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 49-8 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to go up 61-19 at the end of three,

Tekamah-Herman won the 4th quarter 5-2.

Robby Mayberry had 12 points while Wyatt Seagren totaled 11. Cole Bures and Garrison Dodge added 8 apiece while Ian Lundquist and Tyson Harney notched 7 each.

Good win for the Knights. Oakland-Craig came out and took care of business, and left no doubt.

The Knights (11-5) host North Bend Central (11-2) Friday night in High School Basketball on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers defeated the Knights 72-62 in North Bend last year.

Oakland-Craig Head Coach Aaron Meyer says defense will be key this time around. "It will take a full 32 minutes of solid defense, that's for sure. We have to find ways to execute our offense through their physical style of play on defense."

North Bend Central is coming off a 73-48 win at Columbus Scotus Tuesday night.

North Bend Central has won 4 in a row while the Knights have won 8 out of their last 9.

Head Coach Aaron Meyer says his squad is playing their best basketball of the season right now. "All in all, I think so. I don't know if I can say that we've really put that full game together when we hit on all cylinders, though. We've had games we've won where certain guys played well and others didn't. It's nice this year having so many guys that have picked up the slack."

Imagine how great Oakland-Craig can be if everyone is on at the same time.

All the Knights need is for Garrett Seagren and Kobe Benne to be on along with all the other players who scored a lot against Tekamah-Herman.

Meyer says this game is big for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding. "I think it's important for both teams in their own respective ways. NBC is jockeying for position in the top 3 of the conference, where as we are battling for the 4-6 spots. It should be interesting to watch it all play out."

I think this game will be great.

I feel it will come down to the 4th quarter with the team that executes down the stretch best winning.

There's a lot of talent and good players on both teams, and I look for both teams to really get after one another.

I think this will be a fast paced, action packed, physical game.

You can listen to the game on the Bull, online at www.kticradio.com, or with the free KTIC Radio App with the girls game starting at 6:00 p.m. and the boys game following.

The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team lost 47-42 at home to Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night.

The Tigers led the Knights 9-4 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig outscored Tekamah-Herman 12-8 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 17-16 game at halftime in favor of the Tigers.

Tekamah-Herman won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to lead 32-28 at the end of three.

The Tigers also won the 4th quarter 15-14.

Natalia McNeill led the way with 21 points.

Difficult loss for Oakland-Craig. Tough to win when you have 45 points sitting on the bench though.

The Knights (11-5) host North Bend Central (11-3) Friday night in High School Basketball on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers won last year's game 53-49 in North Bend.

Head Coach Joe Anderson says the battle down low will be big. "NBC is a big physical team. We are really going to have to play much better defense, and finish each possession with a great box out and rebound. They really hurt people on the offensive glass."

North Bend Central fell 40-24 at Columbus Scotus Tuesday night.

The Shamrocks snapped the Tigers' 5-game winning streak. The Knights have lost 2 in a row and 3 out of their last 4.

Anderson says it's kind of been a whirlwind for his team ever since Benne went down. "Since the Benne injury we had 2 games and only one practice, so the girls have had to adjust on the fly. Hopefully with a couple day of practice know we can redefine some of our roles and play much better from here on out. "

I look for the Knights to have a good game plan and come out and play hard Friday night.

Anderson says his squad needs to play well on both ends of the floor to come out on top. "First of all we have to knock down some shots. We shot really poorly in our last two games. With 45 ppg on the bench with injury, we have to play better team defense. We can't get into a game where we have to try and outscore people."

I think post defense is going to be critical for Oakland-Craig.

North Bend Central likes to pound the rock inside, and you can bet the Tigers will do that against a small Knights' squad.

I think the outside and transition game is going to be key for Oakland-Craig.

I think the Knights are going to need to get some baskets on the fast break and hit some shots from the outside to have a shot in this one.

Other girls besides McNeil have to step up in Benne's absence.

The girls game is set to start at 6:00 p.m. with the boys game to follow on the Bull.
