The Wisner-Pilger Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 in their last three games, beating Howells-Dodge 57-38 at home Friday night before losing 58-48 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday, and winning 45-34 at home over Twin River Tuesday night.
The Gators tripled up the Jaguars 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 15-13 to take a 27-17 lead into the locker room.
Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 16-14 to go up 43-31 at the end of three.
The Gators doubled up Howells-Dodge 14-7 in the 4th quarter.
The Raiders led 13-10 after one, and outscored the Gators 20-13 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-23 lead into the locker room.
LVSS won the 3rd quarter 15-7 to go up 48-30 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger outscored the Raiders 18-10 in the 4th quarter.
Rockney Peck had 21 points for the Gators while Tyler McBride notched 12.
The Gators tripled up the Titans 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 15-12 to go up 27-16 at halftime.
Twin River outscored Wisner-Pilger 10-4 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 31-26 ball game at the end of three.
The Gators outscored the Titans 14-8 in the 4th quarter.
I thought Wisner-Pilger played great basketball against Howells-Dodge. Otherwise I think the Gators' play was decent.
Wisner-Pilger (11-4) takes on Pender (6-8) on the road Thursday night.
The Pendragons lost 66-64 at Omaha Nation this past Thursday night.
The Gators figure to have a good chance to win this one, but Wisner-Pilger has to contain Sam Mailoux if at all possible.
He's putting up gawdy numbers, and the Gators have to do a good job of defending him.
Mailoux is averaging 16 points and 14 rebounds a game so someone has to put a body on him.
I think Jayden Raabe could very well be up to the task.
I look for Wisner-Pilger to have a good game plan, and execute it well.
The Gators have been very strong defensively in their last two wins, and I look for defense to carry Wisner-Pilger past Pender too.
The Gators' offense can definitely score and light it up from anywhere, but I would say Wisner-Pilger is a little stronger on the defensive side of the court.
The Gators have a nice mix of freshmen and seniors and a junior in Raabe.
I think Wisner-Pilger being the bigger school and having the better record will allow them to beat the Pendragons.
Pender is doing some nice things this year and is much improved, but I'm not so sure the Pendragons are equipped to take down a team like the Gators.
Wisner-Pilger needs this one with East Husker Conference Tournament Seeding coming out on Monday.
The Gators need to solidify a top seed and perhaps be a host site.
This game is very big for both teams, and Wisner-Pilger has to play like they know it's important to them.
I think the Gators have a chance to be very successful in the conference tournament, and in next week's games against Clarkson/Leigh and North Bend Central, but Wisner-Pilger has to come out strong and must play fast.
The Gators have to run and gun, and get up and down the floor as much as possible.
If Wisner-Pilger is able to do that they should be in good shape.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls Basketball Team is 1-2 in their last three games, falling 45-30 at home to Howells-Dodge Friday night, winning 56-48 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday, and losing 36-34 at home to Twin River at the buzzer Tuesday night.
The Jaguars led 10-8 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 10-9 to go up 20-17 at halftime.
Both teams scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 30-27 at the end of three in favor of Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars outscored the Gators 15-3 in the 4th quarter.
The Gators held a 6-4 lead on the Raiders at the end of one. LVSS outscored Wisner-Pilger 17-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-18 lead into the locker room.
The Gators won the 3rd quarter 8-5 to tie the game at 26 after three.
Both teams scored 17 points in the 4th quarter, and the game was tied at 43 at the end of regulation.
Wisner-Pilger outlasted the Raiders 13-5 in the extra session.
The Gators led the Titans 10-6 after one. Twin River outscored Wisner-Pilger 10-2 in the 2nd quarter to go up 16-12 at halftime.
The Titans won the 3rd quarter 13-9 to lead 29-21 at the end of three.
The Gators outscored Twin River 13-7 in the 4th quarter.
I thought Wisner-Pilger played well in the 3 games with the exception of the 4th quarter against Howells-Dodge.
The Gators (5-11) travel to Pender to take on the Pendragons (7-8) Thursday night.
Pender won 61-54 at Homer last Tuesday night and has won 4 in a row.
I think Wisner-Pilger can definitely go up there and win, but it doesn't figure to be easy.
The Pendragons are very battle tested and have only lost to very good teams.
Michaela Wegner, Ashley Ostrand, Faith Morris, Sarah Krueger, and Tymaree Krusemark are all very good players and have led Pender this season.
The Gators are led by the likes of Jordan Wegner, Ariel Meyer, Ashton Meyer, Karrin Jindra, and Aspin Waterman.
All these players have been very big important pieces to Wisner-Pilger's team this year I would say.
I look for the Gators to come out ready to play their best game Thursday night.
I think Wisner-Pilger will be very upset given what happened against Twin River, and will not want to let history repeat itself.
I look for the Gators to come out motivated determined not to lose again.
Pender could very well add to Wisner-Pilger's frustrations and woes, but I think this is a game Wisner-Pilger can win.
It wouldn't surprise me if this game was decided in the final minutes or seconds, or on the last possession.
I feel these two teams are pretty even, and look for the Gators to come out and play a strong game.
I'm sure the Pendragons will come ready to play and will play well too so Wisner-Pilger has to make sure to bring it for 4 quarters.
If the Gators can play like they have lately minus the 4th quarter against Howells-Dodge then they can definitely win.
This is a toss up game if you ask me.
I truly believe the game can go either way.
Wisner-Pilger has two very tough games next week against Clarkson/Leigh and North Bend Central so the Gators could definitely use a win for momentum and confidence purposes.
