GACC Boys lose to Wayne; Girls lose to Bishop Neumann
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 67-45 at home to Wayne Friday night.
The Blue Devils led 21-8 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 17-12 to take a 38-20 lead into the locker room.
Wayne outscored GACC 29-13 in the 3rd quarter to go up 67-33 at the end of three.
The Bluejays shutout the Blue Devils 12-0 in the 4th quarter.
Bryant Rief had 13 points while Jared Minnick totaled 10 points and 9 rebounds. Landon Stalp added 9 points.
I thought the loss was an improvement for GACC despite the fact they lost by 22.
The Bluejays (3-8) host Boone Central/Newman Grove (8-4) on Saturday.
The Cardinals won 67-36 at home over Stanton Friday night.
I look for GACC to take more steps forward and make more progress on Saturday.
The Bluejays may not win, but I look for GACC to come out and show improvement.
I look for Rief, Minnick, Stalp, and Casey Doernemann to have nice games.
I thought GACC did a nice job picking things up offensively against Wayne.
The Bluejays could be stronger on the defensive end, but I'm sure that will come in due time.
GACC has to stay positive, and work hard together as well as communicate well on the court.
The Bluejays have to work hard, stay humble, and play for one another.
Perhaps playing back-to-back games will be a good thing for GACC as the Bluejays seem to have these long periods where they don't play.
GACC has to be fired up, and has to crank up the intensity and pressure.
The Bluejays have to play fast, smart, aggressive, and with a motor that never stops.
GACC has to be willing to sacrifice their bodies and take charges and help out the team any way they can.
The Bluejays have to stay out of foul trouble and execute the fundamentals of the game well.
GACC has to find a spark from within that leads to extraordinary things.
After all, the Bluejays are the defending Class D-1 Runner-Up.
I don't know if GACC can make a run again this year before the Mid-State Conference Tournament, but perhaps the Bluejays can make some noise in the Conference Tournament and win a couple of games after the tournament is over.
GACC has to keep getting better everyday and has to do their best to grow and mature as young men and student athletes.
The Bluejays have to go into every game believing they can and expecting to win.
GACC has to come out guns ablazin on Saturday.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team lost 57-24 at Bishop Neumann Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers led 18-10 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 10-8 to take a 28-18 lead into the locker room.
Bishop Neumann exploded in the 3rd quarter, erupting for 19 points while holding the Bluejays to 2 to go up 47-20 at the end of three.
The Cavaliers outscored GACC 10-4 in the 4th quarter.
Very tough game for the Bluejays. I thought the game was going to be a lot closer than it was.
GACC (9-4) hosts Boone Central/Newman Grove (2-10) on Saturday.
The Cardinals lost 46-37 at home to Stanton Friday night.
GACC should be able to win this one although the game could be close.
You can bet BC/NG will come in with quite a bit of confidence after competing with Stanton and giving them a tough game.
Head Coach Jerry Stracke has said defense is going to have to carry the Bluejays this year with GACC not as strong offensively as in years past, and the not as strong offensively part was very evident Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers are a great team, but I really expected that game to be closer than it was.
The Bluejays are going to have to dig deep to win on Saturday, in my opinion.
GACC has a couple of games they should win coming up and then it gets tough again so the Bluejays have to regroup and find ways to win Saturday's game and Tuesday's game against Battle Creek.
The good news for GACC is they're at home the next three games. The bad news is next Friday is their last home game.
The Bluejays have to make the most of these final home games, and use them as building blocks the rest of the season.
There's still a state run to be made for GACC, and a long season ahead of them yet.
The Bluejays have to stick together and with one another, and get through the tough loss to Bishop Neumann together.
GACC had been playing such great basketball before the game against the Cavaliers, but perhaps being off for over a week had something to do with it.
At any rate the Bluejays have most likely had ample time to shoot and find some rhythm offensively in practice so that should help GACC on Saturday.
The Bluejays have to full court press the Cardinals to death, and create a bunch of turnovers and get out in transition.
GACC has to play their hearts out, and really get after things.
The Bluejays have to play with pride, passion, intensity, tenacity, grit, mental and physical toughness, and fire.
