BRLD Boys take 2nd in EHC Tournament, beat Wisner-Pilger; Girls win Tournament and down Gators

The BRLD Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 in their last three games, downing North Bend Central 65-54 in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals at Logan View last Friday night, losing 38-36 to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the Championship game at Central Community College in Columbus on Saturday, and beating Wisner-Pilger 64-53 at home Tuesday night.

The Tigers led the Wolverines 15-8 after one before BRLD won the 2nd quarter 19-11 to go up 27-26 at halftime.

The Wolverines outscored North Bend Central 18-7 in the 3rd quarter to lead 45-33 at the end of three.

The Tigers won the 4th quarter 21-20.

The Raiders led 7-5 after one before the Wolverines won the 2nd quarter 7-4 to take a 12-11 lead into the locker room.

LVSS went on a 9-0 run to start the 3rd quarter, and tripled up BRLD 18-6 in the period to lead 29-18 at the end of three.

The Wolverines doubled up the Raiders 18-9 in the 4th quarter.

Jacob Polk had a game-high 14 points for LVSS while Nathan Taylor notched 10.

BRLD was led by Kenyan Lovejoy, who scored a team-high 12 points. Lucas Vogt chipped in 11 while Trent Gatewood added 7.

The game was tied at 10 at the end of one before the Wolverines won the 2nd quarter 18-16 to take a 28-26 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score after 3 was 41-39 in favor of BRLD.

The Wolverines outscored the Gators 23-14 in the 4th quarter.

Darwin Snyder had 20 points for BRLD while Lovejoy notched 17. Jaxon Johnson registered 12 while Will Gatzemeyer added 7.

Head Coach Cory Meyer. "We're just happy to get out of here with a win. I know our kids are tired. But I tell you what Wisner-Pilger's a dangerous team, a very dangerous ball team

The Wolverines continue to play great basketball.

BRLD (19-2) takes on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (19-2) on the road Friday night.

The Raiders won 67-39 at home over Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.

I think the Wolverines have a great chance to exact revenge in this game.

BRLD played LVSS close and tight the first time around, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Wolverines got over the hump and won this time around.

BRLD is a great team, and has had a fantastic season.

It certainly won't be easy to win at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, but the Wolverines have won in the gym once already, and that should help.

This game is big for the wildcard point standings.

BRLD could really use this one to bolster themselves to the upper echelon of the C-2 teams.

If the Wolverines lose this one they could be looking at a situation where they need to win sub-districts and districts to make state.

The Raiders are currently 3rd in power points in C-1, and could probably afford a loss more than BRLD.

This should be a great game, and I really look for both teams to get after one another.

I think the Wolverines might get it done this time around, I really do.

It's just tough to beat a team twice in the same season, especially when the first meeting was so close and the two teams are so even.

And that's why I think BRLD has a good shot in this one.

The BRLD Girls are on a hot streak, defeating Stanton 48-40 on the road in double overtime last Thursday night in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals, winning 36-35 over North Bend Central in the Championship on Saturday at Central Community College in Columbus, and downing Wisner-Pilger 58-52 at home Tuesday night.

In the Stanton Game, BRLD led 8-6 after the first quarter, but took a 16-6 lead into halftime when Stanton was held scoreless in the second.

BRLD had a scoreless quarter of their own, when they failed to produce a point in the third, giving Stanton the 18-16 advantage after three quarters.

BRLD had a chance to win the game tied a 31-31 with one second left in regulation, but couldn't convert from the free throw line, sending the game into overtime.

Both teams scored four points in the first OT period, making it 35-35.

BRLD was able to outscore Stanton 13-5 in the second OT period, pulling away for the win.

Vicki Gatzemeyer led BRLD with 17 points, and Paige Peters added 16.

The Tigers led 9-8 after one before the Wolverines outscored North Bend Central 7-1 in the 2nd quarter to build a 15-10 halftime lead.

The Tigers outscored BRLD 13-7 in the 3rd quarter to reclaim the lead at 23-22 heading into the 4th.

The Wolverines won the final frame 14-12.

Gatzemeyer, who surpassed the 1,000 point total for her career, had 15 points to lead BRLD while Caragan Tietz posted 7.

The Wolverines led the Gators 18-10 after one. Both teams scored 19 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score was 37-29 at halftime in favor of BRLD.

Wisner-Pilger outscored the Wolverines 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 45-43 game at the end of three.

BRLD won the 4th quarter 13-9.

Sophia Henneman had 15 points for the Wolverines while Peters posted 13. Gatzemeyer and Tiahna Bonneau notched 7 apiece.

Head Coach Rod Peters. "On Saturday, I really thought our defense won the game. Tonight, it might of been our offense that won the game."

Peters adds it was a tough win. "I don't know how many blocked shots they had, but it's a lot of credit to them. They blocked a lot of shots on us tonight. And that's something we've faced a lot of times cause we're not very tall. We're going to have to figure out how to attack this defense when they're playing like that."

BRLD (18-4) takes on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (7-14) on the road Friday night to conclude the regular season.

The Raiders have won 3 in a row, knocking off Boys Town 53-15 at home Thursday night.

LVSS is starting to come around and play some great basketball, and could certainly challenge the Wolverines.

This game figures to be a barn burner given how well both teams have played lately.

I think a loss would really hurt the Wolverines in the C-2 Wildcard point standings.

BRLD may need to win out to make state anyways, but a loss to the Raiders would really hurt them in points.

I look for the Wolverines to win, but things could certainly be tight and close.

I don't think a win is a guarantee or sure thing in this one for BRLD.

The Wolverines are going to need to come ready to play, and must play 4 good quarters of basketball.

I look for BRLD to come through and make plays down the stretch, which is why I think the Wolverines will win.

BRLD could have a tough path to state, but the Wolverines can definitely get there.

This has been a great ride and season for BRLD, and hopefully it ends with a trip to Lincoln.

A win in the regular season finale would certainly help the Wolverines' cause.
