The Howells-Dodge Boys Basketball Team is 2-2 in their last four games, falling 57-49 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder last Thursday night, beating Pender 63-48 in the 1st round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at home last Saturday, falling 61-33 at BRLD in the Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Tuesday night, and defeating Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 52-41 in a Silver Bracket Consolation Game at Wisner-Pilger Friday night.

The Raiders led the Jaguars 14-13 after one. Howells-Dodge outscored LVSS 19-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-26 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 11-5 to tie the game at 37 at the end of three.

LVSS outscored the Jaguars 20-12 in the 4th quarter.

Josh Brester and Caden Jackson had 9 points apiece while Dax VanLengen and Connor Blum totaled 7 each. Lane Hegemann added 8 rebounds.

Head Coach Cole Fischer on the loss."The boys played hard tonight and just didn't take care of ball in the 3rd quarter. Very proud of the effort tonight. "

The Jaguars tripled up the Pendragons 21-7 in the 1st quarter. Pender outscored Howells-Dodge 19-11 in the 2nd quarter to go make it a 32-26 game at halftime in favor of the Jaguars.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Pendragons 14-10 in the 3rd quarter to lead 46-36 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored Pender 17-12 in the 4th quarter.

Blum had 23 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jackson added 11 points while Hegemann totaled 9 points and 10 rebounds. VanLengen notched 7 points and 8 rebounds while Brester had 7 points.

Fischer says his team played well in the 2nd half. "We had a good second half defensively and found some offensive rhythm in the 4th quarter."

Fischer on the win. " It was a nice win to get to go 2-1 in the East Husker Conference Tournament. We need to start playing our best basketball as sub districts approach."

The Jaguars (11-9) host North Bend Central (16-3) Thursday night.

The Tigers routed Oakland-Craig 80-45 in the 3rd place game of the Conference Tournament at Central Community College in Columbus on Saturday.

Big opportunity for Howells-Dodge in this one.

This is one the Jaguars need to get if they hope to make a push towards sub-districts.

Howells-Dodge has three very tough games left to end the season, and I think this is going to be make or break time for the Jaguars.

If Howells-Dodge can do well in these games and pick up a couple of wins then I think the Jaguars will give themselves the confidence and momentum necessary to do something in the postseason.

Howells-Dodge also has Wakefield on the road Friday night, and Lutheran High Northeast on the road the following Friday night so the Jaguars definitely have their work cut out for them to say the least.

Howells-Dodge is a respectable team and can hang with these teams though, in my opinion.

All three figure to be very tough with North Bend Central probably the most difficult, but the Jaguars have a lot of the week to get ready for the Tigers.

It's getting down to the nitty gritty and crunch time for Howells-Dodge.

Things are coming to a close for this senior class, and they have to decide how they want to go out.

Do the Jaguars want to lose these last few games and stumble into sub-districts, or do they want to win all or at least a couple of them and give themselves a shot to advance beyond sub-districts?

I'm sure Howells-Dodge wants to do very well, but they have to work hard and earn it to achieve their goals and make their dreams come true.

The Jaguars had a very strong showing Friday night, and need to build off of that.

Contesting shots, guarding the perimeter, and rebounding will be absolutely critical for Howells-Dodge if they are to have a chance at beating North Bend Central Thursday night, in my opinion.

The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 11-7 to cut the deficit to 7 at 28-21 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored LVSS 18-5 in the 4th quarter.

Erin Prusa had 18 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jessi Brester added 8 points and 10 rebounds while Macey Kulhanek scored 7 points.

The Jaguars held a 15-10 lead after one before the Gators won the 2nd quarter 18-14 to make it a one-point game at 29-28 at halftime in favor of Howells-Dodge.

The Jaguars outscored Wisner-Pilger 17-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 46-38 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 17-11.

Kulhanek notched 30 points while Prusa totaled 14 points and 8 rebounds. Madyson Cech added 10 points.

North Bend Central led the Jaguars 22-10 after one. Howells-Dodge won the 2nd quarter 13-12 to make it a 34-23 game at halftime.

The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 11-10 to go up 45-33 at the end of three.

North Bend Central outscored the Jaguars 13-7 in the 4th quarter.

Kulhanek led the way with 30 points while Brester and Grace Dvorak each pulled down 7 rebounds.

The Jaguars led the Patriots 12-11 after one, and outscored Clarkson/Leigh 13-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots won the 3rd quarter 11-10 to make it a 35-32 game at the end of three in favor of Howells-Dodge.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 10-7 to tie the game at 42 and send it into overtime.

Both teams scored 4 points in the first OT, and the game went into double OT tied at 46.

The Patriots outlasted the Jaguars 7-2 in the second overtime session.

Prusa had a team-high 13 points while Tonya Brester and Dvorak totaled 10 and 9, respectively.

Tough loss for Howells-Dodge Thursday night. The Jaguars really struggled on Monday, in my opinion.

Howells-Dodge (11-10) hosts North Bend Central (15-4) in the regular season finale Thursday night.

The Tigers are coming off a 36-35 loss to BRLD in the Conference Tournament Championship Game at Central Community College in Columbus on Saturday.

Tough defeat for North Bend Central, who plays Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night before coming to Howells-Dodge.

North Bend Central has proven to be a very respectable team this year, and it the Jaguars definitely have their work cut out for them this time as well.

The Tigers really get out and ran the floor well against Howells-Dodge in the 1st meeting, and that was a big difference in the game, in my opinion.

North Bend Central got the ball inside to their bigs, and knocked down open jump shots.

And that was without the services of Brooke Fredrickson, who sprained her ankle.

Fredrickson played against the Wolverines on Saturday though so I fully expect her to play at a high level for the Tigers on Thursday.

Howells-Dodge has to have girls step up and score.

Kulhanek and Prusa can only do so much.

The Jaguars need contributions from everyone, and must get out there and play tough, tenacious, and physical.

Howells-Dodge has to take charges and attack the basket aggressively.

The Jaguars have to sacrifice their bodies for the betterment of the team.

Howells-Dodge has to want it badly.

It would be a huge deal for Kulhanek and Katelyn Steffensmeier to go out winners in their final home game.

The Jaguars have to play with a little something extra, a little extra spark and pizzaz.
