The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team lost 65-39 on the road at West Point-Beemer Friday night before winning 73-55 at home over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Monday night.
The Cadets led the Knights 16-15 after one. Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 17-15 to take a 32-31 lead into the locker room.
West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 14-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 46-36 at the end of three.
The Cadets outscored Oakland-Craig 20-2 in the 4th quarter.
Garrett Seagren had a team-high 14 points.
The Knights went up 20-15 on the Bulldogs after one. Oakland-Craig outscored Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 18-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 20-13 in the 3rd quarter to go up 58-39 at the end of three.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family won the 4th quarter 16-15.
Seagren had a team-high 19 points and 10 assists while Kobe Benne notched 14 points. Robby Mayberry chipped in 12 while Jared Mulder scored 9. Wyatt Seagren notched 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Good healthy win for the Knights Monday night.
Oakland-Craig (15-9) is off until sub-districts Tuesday night when they take on Omaha Nation (17-7) in the C2-3 Sub-District Semifinals at West Point-Beemer.
The Chiefs won 74-40 at home over Emerson-Hubbard Friday night.
The Knights won 83-65 at Omaha Nation on December 21st.
I look for Oakland-Craig to win again Tuesday night.
I think it's going to be a BRLD/Oakland-Craig Sub-District final next Thursday night.
The Knights have to take advantage of this extra practice time.
Oakland-Craig will have had an entire week of practice and preparation before playing the Chiefs.
A wildcard is not in the cards for the Knights this year so it's win or go home for Oakland-Craig.
It's do or die for the Knights.
Garrett Seagren, who is headed to Chaminade next season, has to light things up for Oakland-Craig as does Benne, Wyatt Seagren, Mayberry, and Mulder.
The Knights need everyone to be clicking on all cylinders to have a chance to get out of this sub-district.
The one thing you could say Oakland-Craig has on BRLD is experience.
The Knights are more of a veteran team while the Wolverines are full of freshmen and sophomores.
That hasn't mattered up to this point, but Oakland-Craig is the team with more experience I would say.
After all, the Knights made state last year.
I know a number of the BRLD kids were at state when Bancroft-Rosalie made it in 2014-2015, but the majority were not.
Either way it should be a great sub-district and a great potential battle between Oakland-Craig and BRLD should the two teams make the sub-district final.
Hopefully the Knights are healthy Tuesday, and you would think they would be with a whole week off.
Tuesday night's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:45 p.m.
The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team lost 65-33 at West Point-Beemer to end the regular season Friday night before upsetting Omaha Nation 44-42 in the C2-3 Sub-District Semifinals at West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.
The Cadets tripled up the Knights 12-4 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Oakland-Craig 18-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-12 lead into the locker room.
West Point-Beemer outscored the Knights 21-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 51-20 at the end of three.
The Cadets won the 4th quarter 14-13.
Mya Guzinski had 8 rebounds for Oakland-Craig.
The Knights led the Chiefs 15-9 at the end of one. Omaha Nation won the 2nd quarter 7-5 to make it a 20-16 game at halftime in favor of the Chiefs.
Omaha Nation won the 3rd quarter 14-11 to cut the deficit to 1 at 31-30 at the end of three.
The Knights won the 4th quarter 13-12.
Makenna Pearson had 10 points and 9 rebounds while Grace Pille notched 10 points. Guzinski chipped in 8.
Great upset win by Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.
The Knights (12-10) take on BRLD (20-4) in the C2-3 Sub-District Final at West Point-Beemer Thursday night.
The Wolverines topped Homer 64-52 in Tuesday night's Semifinals.
BRLD beat Oakland-Craig 69-39 back on January 12th in Lyons.
That was the Knights' first full game without Kennedy Benne though as she blew out her ACL the night before against Emerson-Hubbard.
Oakland-Craig didn't even have a practice prior to that game and so I fully expect this game to be different.
Wouldn't it be something if the Knights reached a district final without their top two leading scorers?
It would be quite the feat, that's for sure.
These girls have continued to fight and persevere, and have pushed through no matter what.
Oakland-Craig hasn't led what everyone, myself included, to be devastating injuries get them down.
The Knights have continued to fight and battle no matter what, and figure to have a shot in this one.
Omaha Nation beat BRLD in the season opener so anything is certainly possible in this one.
The Wolverines have won 6 straight and 10 out of their last 11 so BRLD is certainly playing their best basketball of the season right now.
It's definitely going to take a great game on Oakland-Craig's part to win, there's no doubt about it.
The Knights can definitely win and get the job done though, in my opinion.
Anything can happen in the postseason and at this time of year.
After all it's why they play the games.
It should be a great battle Thursday night, and I look for both teams to really get after one another.
Oakland-Craig isn't done yet, but do the Knights have another upset in them?
That's what we will find out Thursday night.
I look for the game to be close and tightly contested throughout.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
