Pender Boys go 0-2 in East Husker Conference Tournament; Girls 1-2 in last three games

The Pender Boys Basketball Team went 0-2 at the East Husker Conference Tournament, losing 63-48 at Howells-Dodge in the first round last Saturday, and falling 65-53 at Twin River in Friday night's Bronze Bracket Consolation Game.

The Jaguars tripled up the Pendragons 21-7 in the 1st quarter. Pender outscored Howells-Dodge 19-11 in the 2nd quarter to go make it a 32-26 game at halftime in favor of the Jaguars.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Pendragons 14-10 in the 3rd quarter to lead 46-36 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored Pender 17-12 in the 4th quarter.

Sam Mailoux had a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds while Jordan Springer totaled 11 points. Eric Schopke added 8 points while Jaxon Maise scored 7.

Mailoux scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds against the Titans, good enough for a double-double. Jaydon Jump added 16 points.

It has been a difficult second half to the season for the Pendragons, who have dropped 6 in a row.

Pender (6-13) looks to get back on track Monday night when they host Spalding Academy (4-10).

The Shamrocks lost 68-51 at Burwell Friday night, their 3rd consecutive defeat.

The Pendragons should be able to get back on track with a win in this one.

Mailoux has been a very consistent performer for Pender this season, and if he can play the way he has all year, I don't see any reason why the Pendragons can't pick up the win.

Pender has this game with Spalding Academy and then a matchup with Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday so I think the Pendragons have a great chance to get both of those.

I look for Pender to win these next two games, give BRLD their best shot next Friday, and have a strong showing at Sub-Districts.

I think the Pendragons are more equipped than any other team in the sub-district to challenge Walthill.

GACC figures to be tough too, but I think Pender is the second best team in the Sub-District right now.

Regardless of how the rest of this season turns out the Pendragons are making great strides this season, in my opinion.

I look for Pender to pick up their play Monday night and rediscover the form they were playing with prior to the start of their current losing streak.

I think the Pendragons are totally capable of winning at least 9 games this season.

I don't know if Pender can get past Walthill, but GACC made a run last year so you never know.

The Pendragons have run into some inconsistent play recently, but that's not to say Pender can't get back on track with two wins next week.

I think the Pendragons will win both games next week, and put themselves in a better position to compete with BRLD than they would be in now if they played them today.

The Pender Girls Basketball Team is 1-2 in their last three games, winning 65-56 at Winnebago last Thursday night, falling 42-27 to Twin River in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at West Point-Beemer Friday night, and losing 45-35 to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the Bronze Bracket of the tournament at Oakland-Craig Thursday night.

The Pendragons jumped on the Indians 18-12 at the end of one. Both teams scored 14 points in the 2nd quarter, and the lead was 32-26 at halftime in favor of Pender.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 10-6 to make it a 38-36 game at the end of three in favor of Pender.

The Pendragons outscored the Indians 27-20 in the 4th quarter.

Faith Morris led the way with 21 points while Ashley Ostrand totaled 19 points and 7 rebounds. Michaela Wegner added 10 points.

The Titans jumped on the Pendragons 13-3 after one. Pender doubled up Twin River 10-5 in the 2nd quarter to make it an 18-13 game at halftime in favor of the Titans.

Twin River won the 3rd quarter 10-8 to extend the lead to 7 at 28-21 at the end of three.

The Titans outscored the Pendragons 14-6 in the 4th quarter.

Ostrand led the way with 15 points.

The Pendragons led 15-8 after one before the Raiders won the 2nd quarter 14-5 to take a 22-20 lead into the locker room.

LVSS won the 3rd quarter 10-7 to go up 32-27 at the end of three.

The Raiders outscored Pender 13-8 in the 4th quarter.

Ostrand had 10 points while Morris notched 7.

The Pendragons played great against Winnebago, but struggled against Twin River and Logan View/Scribner-Snyder for whatever reason.

Pender (9-12) hosts Guardian Angels Central Catholic (15-6) Tuesday night.

The Bluejays won 57-53 over Hartington Cedar Catholic in the 3rd place game of the Mid-State Conference Tournament at Northeast Community College on Saturday.

Not the greatest time for the Pendragons to see GACC, in my opinion.

Pender is coming off a tough loss, and has to turn around and take on the mighty Bluejays Tuesday night.

With that said, it's the last home game for the Pendragons, and I look for them to come out and play hard and inspired.

This is a big game as these two teams could potentially meet in sub-districts again.

Pender should get to 10 wins on the season against Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday if they don't against GACC.

I think it has been a good season overall for the Pendragons, but Pender has picked the wrong time of the year to struggle.

Granted Pender lost to two teams in higher classes than them, but the loss to the Raiders had to sting.

The Pendragons have to do something about it, and turn around and regroup Tuesday night.

Pender has to have a quick memory, and must put the the last two losses in the rearview mirror.

It doesn't take much for teams to get up for the Bluejays I would say, and I'm sure the Pendragons will be up for the challenge of trying to beat GACC.

I look for Pender to play well and challenge the Bluejays.

The Pendragons have been very up and down and inconsistent this year, but when Pender is on they are on.

The Pendragons are a tough team when they're at their best, and I think Pender is due to play a couple of good games next week.

Hopefully the Pendragons can develop some consistency in the next two weeks because if they do special things can happen.
