The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team lost 61-53 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals Friday night before falling 80-45 to North Bend Central in the 3rd place game of the Tournament at Central Community College in Columbus on Saturday. Nice win for Oakland-Craig following two losses to end the EHC Tournament.
The Knights (14-8) take on West Point-Beemer (13-8) on the road Friday night in a game that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Cadets won 60-14 at Madison Tuesday night.
This should be a very good, close basketball game.
Oakland-Craig will no doubt look to get out and run as may West Point-Beemer.
The Cadets might want to slow things down and keep things to a half court, grind it out type of game though.
I don't know if the Cadets want to get in a track meet with Oakland-Craig.
If you're the Knights you want to fast break and get out in transition as much as possible.
Oakland-Craig has West Point-Beemer's size to deal with, and it doesn't figure to be easy to slow down the Streeter twins, Alex Gianella, or others.
This should be an entertaining, high flying affair on the Bull.
It's also a special night for Aiden Jorgensen from Oakland-Craig, who is joining Joel Janecek for the Join up with Joel contest.
Those two figure to have a good game to call, and I hope you can listen in if you can't make it to the game in person.
I give the Knights the edge in this game as I feel Oakland-Craig is a little more dynamic offensively and is more athletic, but the game being in West Point kind of offsets that I think.
It should be a great game, and hopefully Joel and Aiden will have a thriller to call on the Bull.
The Knights have to look to run and gun as much as possible, and try and build a big lead that's too big for the Cadets to come back from.
West Point-Beemer isn't exactly built to come back from large deficits so if Oakland-Craig can get out to a big lead they might be golden.
It should be a great game, that's for sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if this game went into overtime.
I feel the higher the score, the more the advantage goes to the Knights.
The lower the score, advantage Cadets.
The game will be carried on the Bull after the Girls game, which is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Team lost 62-35 at Fremont Bergan Tuesday night.
Bergan held an 11-8 lead after one, and outscored Oakland-Craig 21-8 in the 2nd quarter to lead 32-16 at the end of three.
Bergan outscored Oakland-Craig 18-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 50-21 at the end of three.
Bergan won the 4th quarter 14-12.
Makenna Pearson had 12 points and 7 rebounds while Natalia McNeill posted 9 points and 9 rebounds.
I thought Oakland-Craig did a nice job getting a couple girls to score quite a few points. I'm not sure what happened to their defense though.
Oakland-Craig (11-9) travels to West Point-Beemer (17-6) Friday night to take on the Cadets in a game that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.
West Point-Beemer won 60-24 at Madison Tuesday night.
The Cadets are a very good team, but aren't the most explosive team offensively, and I think the Knights can keep this one close.
I'm not suggesting Oakland-Craig will win because I don't know if that will happen, but I look for the Knights and Head Coach Joe Anderson to have a good game plan.
I think Oakland-Craig can definitely be competitive in this one, but losing Dacey Nelson and Kennedy Benne has really done this team in.
It's one thing to lose your leading scorer, it's another to lose your top two scorers.
The Knights are asking players who are normally role players to step up and carry the load.
That's a lot to ask for from girls who aren't used to putting up big numbers.
Oakland-Craig hasn't won a game since Benne went out, and may not win another game this season.
It's a tough deal and a difficult situation for Oakland-Craig to deal with right now.
The Knights just have to get through this season the best they can and prepare for next year.
I'm not suggesting Oakland-Craig throw in the towel, but it's just tough to do a lot with 45 points a game sitting on the bench.
I think the Knights have done the best they can, but it just hasn't yielded them any wins since the Benne injury.
I fully expect Oakland-Craig to throw the kitchen sink at West Point-Beemer.
I look for the Knights to give the Cadets their best shot, and not go down without a fight.
I'm sure these girls are big competitors, and won't go down without giving West Point-Beemer a game.
I think a win would give Oakland-Craig a chance to perhaps beat Omaha Nation in Sub-Districts, but it won't be easy.
I think if anything playing in the same gym two games in a row helps the Knights for what it's worth.
Friday night's game will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
