Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys lose at home to BRLD; Girls fall to Wolverines, lose to Arlington in Sub-Districts
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team lost 69-62 at home to BRLD Friday night.
The Wolverines led 20-16 after one, and outscored the Raiders 20-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 40-27 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 14-11 to go up 54-38 at the end of three.
LVSS outscored the Wolverines 24-15 in the 4th quarter.
Ben Moxness had 19 points while Nathan Taylor totaled 18. Jacob Polk added 10 points and 9 assists while Alex Hagerbaumer notched 9 points.
I'm not surprised the Raiders lost. BRLD is a tough team to beat twice in a season, especially given the amount of time in between matchups. It was also a game the Wolverines probably needed more than LVSS.
The Raiders (19-3) take on Yutan (20-1) on the road Friday night.
The Chieftains won 57-48 over South Loup at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island on Saturday.
This is a must win for LVSS if you ask me.
Right now the Raiders are sitting 4th in power points in C-1, but lose this one and you might not get a wildcard.
Reason being Wahoo would potentially meet LVSS in a district final as would Winnebago and either Broken Bow or O'Neill.
Broken Bow and O'Neill are in the same sub-district, and Wahoo, Winnebago, and Broken Bow are all ahead of the Raiders in power points with O'Neill right behind LVSS.
It's crunch time for LVSS to say the very least. It's must win for the Raiders.
If LVSS loses they'll have to knock off Wahoo or some other team in a district final, and that won't be easy.
The Raiders really need to win this one in a big way, and I look for LVSS to get the job done.
I think the Raiders will find a way to win.
LVSS really needs the win for momentum purposes heading into the postseason.
Moxness and Polk need to step up and have huge games for the Raiders.
LVSS has to be tenacious with their play, and has to be ready to go toe to toe with Yutan.
The Raiders have to take the fight to the Chieftains for 4 quarters, and stay calm, relaxed, and poised in all situations.
LVSS has to make their dreams come true and win this game, which I think would give them a good shot at getting a wildcard should they lose in the postseason before state.
This game is key for the Raiders to make their first ever trip to Lincoln, there's no doubt about it.
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls Basketball Team lost 63-44 at home to BRLD Friday night to end the regular season before losing 50-37 to Arlington in the C1-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.
The Wolverines led the Raiders 20-14 after one, and outscored LVSS 14-1 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-15 lead into the locker room.
BRLD won the 3rd quarter 18-16 to go up 52-31 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 13-11.
Kaylee Boyle had a game-high 16 points while Ashley Peters totaled 11. Morgan Morgan posted 7 rebounds.
The Eagles led LVSS 12-10 at the end of the 1st quarter before the Raiders won the 2nd quarter 12-8 to take a 22-20 lead into the locker room.
Arlington outscored LVSS 21-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 41-25 at the end of three.
The Raiders won the 4th quarter 12-9.
Boyle had a game-high 13 points and 9 rebounds while Shaylin Daugherty posted 9 boards.
One rough quarter cost LVSS against the Eagles, only this time it was the 3rd quarter and not the 1st.
Head Coach Nick Hegge says his team just came up a little short. "Tuesday was a tough loss, I thought we played well enough to win for most of the game but we just went cold in the third quarter. The girls battled hard and should be proud of their effort."
The Raiders end the season at 7-16.
I thought it was a strong finish to the season for LVSS.
The Raiders won 3 out of their last 5, putting together a 3-game winning streak before losing their last two games.
Hegge says his team figured things out late in the season. "We were building confidence all season and things just seemed to click at the end of the year. We had some close losses early in the season and we were just learning to win games."
I feel that's something LVSS can build on heading into next year.
Boyle finished as the team's leading scorer this year at 12 points per game. The leading rebounder was Daugherty at 7 rebounds a game.
The Raiders graduate Boyle, Sierra Beacom, Morgan, Abby Kahlandt, and Breanna Smith.
Hegge says these seniors grew a lot over their four years as part of the program. "This group of seniors was so important to our program. I remember the first year they started the co-op and things were brand new for everyone. The progress they have made since our first year has been leaps and bounds."
LVSS certainly loses some talent, but has to be excited about who they bring back.
The Raiders return Daugherty, Peters, Valerie Uehling, Josie Kahlandt, Taylor Ruwe, and others.
I think that's a good strong core nucleus to build around.
I felt the way this season ended was a very good sign for LVSS.
Hegge says his squad looks to pick up where the left off this year. "We have a core group of returners coming back which will help, we will also need a number of players to step up and fill roles. We all wanted the season to keep going and hopefully we can pick up next season where we left off this season."
I think the Raiders showed they have potential, and can be a great team in time.
LVSS has to work very hard this offseason and be ready to go next year.
The Raiders have to get up everyday and get it.
LVSS has to put in the work necessary to become a great and elite team in the future.
I felt the Raiders made a lot of strides and took a lot of positive steps in the right direction this season.
I feel LVSS will only get better as a program as the years go on.
I'm curious to see if the success the Raiders discovered at the end of this year carries over into next season.
I think there's certainly a lot of potential in next year's team, and feel things can come together for LVSS with hard work, grit, and determination throughout this entire offseason.
