Emerson-Hubbard Boys and Girls lose to Randolph
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 47-29 at home to Randolph Tuesday night.
Not too bad of a loss at all for the Pirates given both teams' records.
Emerson-Hubbard (1-18) hosts Pender (7-13) Thursday night.
The Pendragons are coming off a 63-39 home win over Spalding Academy Monday night.
I think this game between Pender and Emerson-Hubbard is going to be pretty competitive.
The Pirates have shown signs of being a competitive team this year they just haven't been consistent you could say.
I think the Randolph loss had to be encouraging in many ways for Emerson-Hubbard just in terms of how close the Pirates kept the game.
If Emerson-Hubbard plays the same way against Pender then I think the game could be relatively close.
It's a rivalry game you could say, and anything can happen.
The Pirates have to be upbeat and positive, and must get excited about the opportunity to play great basketball.
It's the last home game of the season for Emerson-Hubbard. The last time these seniors will ever play on their home floor.
I look for the Pirates to play well and inspired, and play with a little something extra in this game.
Energy and enthusiasm has to be good for Emerson-Hubbard, and the Pirates have to be loose.
Emerson-Hubbard can't be tight and nervous, that just won't be a good recipe for success in my book.
The Pirates have to try and slow down Sam Mailoux in the post.
He has proven he can single handily take games over so Emerson-Hubbard has to be aware of his whereabouts at all times.
The Pirates have to play hard, smart, physical, and most importantly must have fun.
Emerson-Hubbard has to play to the best of their ability and maximize their potential.
The Pirates have to make sure they're getting the most out of themselves and one another.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be ready to ball for 4 quarters, and give Pender their absolute best shot.
This is it for home games for these seniors so they have to really make this one count.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls Basketball Team also played Randolph tough, losing 33-27 at home Tuesday night.
The Cardinals led 14-13 after one, and outscored the Pirates 9-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 23-15 lead into the locker room.
Emerson-Hubbard won the 3rd quarter 9-7 to make it a 30-24 game at the end of three.
Both teams scored 3 points in the 4th quarter.
Addison Mackling had a team-high 10 points while Cailin Gentrup totaled 8 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Bokemper chipped in 7 rebounds.
I thought the Pirates did a lot of nice things defensively in competing well against Randolph.
Emerson-Hubbard (4-16) hosts Pender (9-13) Thursday night in their final home game of the season.
The Pendragons lost 46-31 at home to Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday night.
Pender defeated Emerson-Hubbard 54-49 in the Bob Clough Post Holiday Tournament in Wakefield on January 6th.
The Pendragons have lost three in a row, and were held to 35 points or fewer in those contests.
If the Pirates can play the same kind of defense they did against the Cardinals and figure things out on offense then they could definitely win.
Emerson-Hubbard needs Mackling, Gentrup, Melanie Gentrup, and Bokemper to all step up and score.
It's great Mackling and Cailin Gentrup stepped up and scored, now it's a matter of getting the other two consistent scorers going at the same time.
This is the last time Cailin Gentrup and Taylor Lamp will ever play on their home floor.
The final time the two will dawn the Purple and Gold uniform of Emerson-Hubbard at home.
The Pirates have to make this one count, and make it a night to remember for all involved.
Emerson-Hubbard has to play strong and aggressive defense, and must get over the hump offensively.
The Pirates have to take it to their rivals from Pender from the start, and set the tone for the game early.
I think Emerson-Hubbard is catching the Pendragons at as good a time as any, and if there's ever a time in the season for the Pirates to beat Pender, it's now.
It's getting to be do or die time as they say, and Emerson-Hubbard has to turn in their most complete performance of the year to come out on top in this one I would say.
The Pirates have to find that extra gear and play with a little something extra Thursday night.
Emerson-Hubbard has to make it a night to remember for their fellow teammates, the coaches, the parents, and the fans in general.
The Pirates have to pick up the sort of win that makes them say "I'm proud to be an Emerson-Hubbard Pirate tonight."
