Pender Boys beat Madison, lose to BRLD to end regular season; Girls end year with loss to Clarkson/Leigh in Sub-Districts

The Pender Boys Basketball Team defeated Madison 53-44 at home Monday night before rounding out the regular season with a 68-28 loss at home against BRLD Friday night.

The Pendragons led the Dragons 16-11 after one. Madison won the 2nd quarter 9-6 to make it a 22-20 game at halftime.

Pender outscored the Dragons 15-9 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 37-29 at the end of three.

The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 16-15.

Good win over Madison Monday night, but rough way to end the regular season against the Wolverines I would say.

Pender (9-14) takes on Guardian Angels Central Catholic (3-17) in the D1-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Bluejays have lost 11 in a row, including an 80-64 decision at home against Winnebago Friday night to end the regular season.

GACC may only be 3-17 and may have not have a win in 2018, but I think the Bluejays actually played better on Saturday against Fremont Bergan (lost 51-42) and Friday night against the Indians.

I think the Pendragons are definitely capable of winning, but Pender has to play better than they did against BRLD.

GACC plays mostly a C-1 and C-2 schedule so you know the Bluejays are battle tested.

GACC made a run last year, and if I'm the Pendragons, I have to be wary of that with the defending Class D-1 State Runner-Ups.

The Bluejays could be a tough out for Pender or anyone they play in the postseason.

Sam Mailoux has to take over for the Pendragons.

He has to dominate the way he is capable of, and go off for Pender.

Other players like Jared Tyrrell, Eric Schopke, Chris Rutar, Jordan Springer, Tyler Nelson, Jaxon Maise, and Jaydon Jump need to step up and have big games as well.

The Pendragons upset the Bluejays in the first round of the Class D-1 football playoffs so we'll see if Pender can get the job done in basketball too.

I look for this game to be close and come down to the wire.

I really don't know what to expect from the standpoint of who will since the teams play somewhat different schedules.

I think whether or not Pender wins depends which teams shows up.

Game time is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

The winner gets either top seeded Walthill or 4th seeded Clarkson/Leigh in the Sub-District Final on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

The Pender Girls Basketball Team saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as the Pendragons fell 55-48 to Clarkson/Leigh in the D1-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Wisner-Pilger in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

Clarkson/Leigh led Pender 18-5 after the first quarter, but the Pendragons cut the deficit to 27-24 at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Pender, as they scored 17 points and led 43-38 at the end of the third.

The Patriots started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 scoring run, and would eventually win the game.

Ashley Ostrand had 16 points and 7 rebounds to lead Pender, going along with 13 points from Faith Morris and 12 from Sarah Krueger.

The Pendragons had a chance to win, they just couldn't quite do it.

Pender ends the season at 10-14.

I thought it was a nice season for the Pendragons, who picked up key wins over Homer (twice), Wynot, and Winnebago.

I thought Pender showed a lot of promise and potential this year, and did some nice things.

Ostrand led the team in scoring and rebounds this season with 14 points and 6 rebounds per game.

The Pendragons only lose two seniors in Tymaree Krusemark and Emily Ellis.

These girls meant a lot to Pender Girls Basketball, but the Pendragons have to be excited about the future and who they bring back.

Pender returns Michaela Wegner, Ostrand, Morris, Zoey Lehmkuhl, Krueger, and Jessica Krueger, among others.

The Pendragons have to get after it this offseason, and be ready to have an even better season next year.

Pender did some really nice things this year, in my opinion, and lost to some great teams.

The Pendragons only lost to one team below .500 this year, that being Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

I think the future is very bright for Pender.

To win 10 games with such a young team is a nice accomplishment, and should only help the Pendragons in the future.

I think Pender has a chance to finish above .500 next year, and take the next steps in their program.

I look for the Pendragons to put another quality product and team on the floor in 2018-2019.

I think Pender played very respectable basketball this year, and look for that to only continue in the future.

The Pendragons have to log a lot of hours in the gym and weightroom this offseason.

The more you play the better you get, and so Pender has to be as active as possible this offseason.

The more the returning players and newcomers can grow and come together between now and November the better the Pendragons will be next season.

I know a lot of these girls are involved in other sports, but the sooner they get started with offseason basketball workouts, the better.
