GACC Boys lose to Norfolk Catholic and Pierce; Girls 3-0 in last 3 games

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 75-49 at home to Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night before falling 49-35 at Pierce Thursday night.

The Knights led 13-10 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room.

Norfolk Catholic outscored the Bluejays 21-12 in the 3rd quarter to go up 46-33 at the end of three.

The Knights outscored GACC 29-16 in the 4th quarter.

Bryant Rief totaled 16 points while Landon Stalp scored 13. Casey Doernemann added 7.

Pierce led GACC 22-9 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 11-6 to take a 33-15 lead into the locker room.

Pierce won the 3rd quarter 10-8 to go up 43-23 at the end of three.

GACC doubled up Pierce 12-6 in the 4th quarter.

Ben Ulrich had 13 points to lead GACC while Stalp notched 10.

I thought GACC did a nice job competing well in the 2nd half against Pierce.

GACC (3-15) hosts Fremont Bergan (9-10) on Saturday.

The Knights have lost 7 in a row while the Bluejays have dropped 8 in a row.

Something has to give in this game.

I feel Bergan is the stronger team, but you never know what might happen.

GACC is definitely capable of playing well and winning.

The Bluejays have two tough games to end the regular season, capping things off at home against Winnebago next Friday night.

GACC definitely has their work cut out for them, but the Bluejays can definitely be competitive in their last two regular season games, in my opinion.

GACC has to use these last two regular season games to prepare for the postseason.

The Bluejays made a run all the way to the D-1 State Championship last year, and who knows, anything can happen.

GACC has to play optimistic, strong basketball on Saturday and next Friday night.

The Bluejays have to forget about how things have been going in the second half of the season, and must try and piece things together in these next two games.

GACC has to find a way to rise up and lift themselves up, and get back on track.

The Bluejays have to find a way to score points and defend better.

GACC has to be better on both ends of the court than they have been for the better amount of this year.

The Bluejays have to play hard, smart, physical, and must have fun on Saturday.

GACC has to regroup and be focused on trying to upset Bergan.

I'm sure not many think the Bluejays will win on Saturday so GACC has to use that to their advantage.

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team is unbeaten in their last 3 games, downing Hartington Cedar Catholic 57-53 in the 3rd place game of the Mid-State Conference Tournament at Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Saturday, Pender 46-31 on the road Tuesday night, and Pierce 42-35 on the road Thursday night.

The Bluejays led the Trojans 13-12 at the end of one, and outscored Hartington Cedar Catholic 15-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-24 lead into the locker room.

The Trojans won the 3rd quarter 12-9 to make it a 37-36 game at the end of three in favor of GACC.

The Bluejays outscored Hartington Cedar Catholic 20-17 in the 4th quarter.

Lexis Haase had 27 points and 7 rebounds while Angela Jansen and Brenna Rief totaled 10 and 7 points, respectively.

The Bluejays led the Pendragons 16-12 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 9-8 to take a 25-20 lead into the locker room.

GACC quadrupled up the Pendragons 12-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 37-23 at the end of three.

The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 9-8.

Marissa Hunke led the way with 14 points while Jansen had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Brandi Doernemann totaled 8 points and 10 rebounds while Haase notched 8 points and 9 boards.

Pierce got out to an 11-7 lead after one before GACC won the 2nd quarter 12-10 to pull within 2 at 21-19 at halftime.

GACC outscored Pierce 15-6 in the 3rd quarter to lead 34-27 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 8 points in the 4th quarter.

Hunke had a team-high 13 points while Jansen totaled 11 points and 8 rebounds. Haase recorded 11 points and 7 rebounds while Ally Plagge added 7 boards.

What a great run of games for the Bluejays. GACC is finding ways to win key games.

The Bluejays (17-6) face Walthill (8-7) in the D1-4 Sub-District Semifinals at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Blujays lost 71-49 at Omaha Nation Tuesday night.

I look for GACC to win this game without too much difficulty.

The Bluejays should be able to win the sub-district, but Clarkson/Leigh or Pender could definitely challenge GACC in Thursday's Sub-District final if the Bluejays get past Walthill.

GACC has to play the way they have over the course of the last 9 games or so.

The Bluejays have won 3 in a row and 8 out of their last 9, and I look for GACC to continue their winning ways in the postseason.

GACC is finding a way to win the close games, and has won handily over a couple in their recent stretch of wins.

I think winning close games is something that definitely helps the Bluejays' chances of getting to state for the 21st straight year and doing something there.

GACC is in a strong position to get a wildcard, but that's not something you ever want to rely on.

The Bluejays have to do their best to win sub-districts and districts, and get to state via district title.

GACC can definitely do it and get the job done.

As long as Haase, Jansen, Hunke, Rief, and Doernemann all step up and contribute the way they did this week and on Saturday, the Bluejays should be fine.

I still think Clarkson/Leigh is GACC's biggest postseason threat even though the Patriots have struggled some in recent games.

The Bluejays have to be ready to rock and roll Tuesday night, and in any other postseason games they play.

It's that time of year when GACC is at their best, and I fully expect the Bluejays to make another postseason run.

Tuesday night's game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull beginning at 6:30 p.m.
